When in Rome, you know? I've known about Tim Hortons for years, but in my few trips to Canada, I hadn't ever tried it. About a year ago I was in Montreal and a friend introduced me to them, but I hadn't planned on eating here this trip. However, after a cancelled flight I found myself in need of breakfast food and, well... a new tradition was born. When in Rome, eat Romans. When in Canada, eat at Tim Hortons. The line was super long and that seems like par for the course, as it's a popular destination in the mornings. It moved somewhat quickly, but if time is tight you're probably out of luck. Once at the front, I ordered up a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin (probably should have gone with the bagel option) with egg and sausage, hash browns, orange juice, and an old fashioned donut. Everything was about as you would expect--that's what makes them so predictable and ubiquitous, you know? It was a blur that early in the morning, but I do remember that the donut was a gut-bomb. Tim Hortons are like Canada's Dunkin Donuts/ McDonald's/ Starbucks; they are much more common place. This one in the airport didn't have any donuts at 5am in the morning though! And I asked for the reason (twice) and the worker could all but mumble a response each time. *shrug* I instead ordered a stale whole wheat bagel with a slathering of cream cheese (that came with no knife) and a very burnt, but cheap cup of their signature brew coffee. Terrible. I love Tim Hortons as much as the next person but going here was a mistake. I was pretty excited about getting my fix before leaving Canada but I would have been better off just dreaming about it than eating at this outlet. I got a BELT on an Everything bagel and it missed on all counts. The bagel was extremely dry and stale and I ended up just eating the filling - some tiny scraps of bacon, lettuce and tomato - and throwing the rest out. Food/Cost: (4/5) Got the Green Tea Smoothie and a Honey Cruller (about $3 for both) and loved both. The smoothie had surprisingly a strong green tea taste that was refreshing. The cruller was soft and moist on the inside, with the slight crunch of the sugar melted onto the outside. One [expected] downside to this location is that the smaller airport storefront means less donut varieties, but that's a minor gripe and very understandable. Ambiance (4/5): Not much to judge here. The storefront is minimal and opens up to the airport with some tables and tall counter seating right in front. Patrons are travelers. I love being in airports - the hustle and bustle and the activity -- so this setup suited me just fine. Location (4/5): Tim Hortons is located near the end of the domestic/US terminal, next to a Chinese/Japanese café. It's conveniently located in the middle of a bunch of gates. Service (4/5): Both the cashiers and the people putting together the food orders were friendly and fast. No complaints. This airport Tim Horton's location has a better donut selection that I've seen at other airport locations, but they still don't have as much variety as the regular stores (to be expected). Although they didn't have my favorite Timbits (we Americans call them donut holes) here (Birthday Cake!!), they at least had the new Salted Caramel one. I tried: -Chocolate Hazelnut Donut Filled w/Nutella ($1.59): Not that great- there's only Nutella in the middle of the donut, and the rest of it was dry and bland tasting. -Box of 10 Timbits (Cinnamon French Toast, Salted Caramel, $2.09): I didn't like the cinnamon french toast, which had too much cinnamon versus sugar. However, the salted caramel was really good- highly recommended! -Pastry Pockets Filled w/Nutella (3 pieces/$2.99): Just ok- the pastry part wasn't that great, but Nutella is always delicious. There was a line when we got there but it moved quickly and the cashiers are nice. Definitely stop by if you've never tried Tim Horton's (stick with their Glazed Old Fashioned and Timbits), or if you're having a donut craving! read more

It looks like it a pretty nice sandwich chain, plus it is hard to beat getting a donut as part of your combo ;p The staff was friendly and helpful and quickly took and prepared my order. I tried the turkey bacon club on whole wheat. The 6.35 cdn combo included a can of Pepsi and choice of a donut or soup. The bread was very good. I love this location. It's a good size with lots of seating even though I didn't sit down on either of the two times I've been there. It's near a work location that I need to visit a couple times a year and it's very handy. This time I ordered big coffee box for the team and it was prepped and ready in half the time they anticipated -way to go! The food is consistent to the brand and I have no complaints. Average Tim Horton's at the airport. This time in Vancouver domestic terminal. Line on a Monday morning was quite long and took time to get through as there are only two cash registers open. Coffee and donuts are pretty much standard quality. The location can be a hike if your gage isn't in that particular area so you do have to walk around into what seems like a different portion of the terminal to find this. Wow, I always held Tim Hortons in high regard. It had been dependable on my past forays into Canada--then this morning happened. I ordered a simple sun dried tomato bagel with light cream cheese. I would think that this would be an easily executable request. What I was served was a bagel that was so dry and hard that it was almost impossible to eat. A bagel placed on a rock in the Mohave desert under a heat lamp during a drought would have more moisture. Saw dust would have flowed over my tongue like a quenching elixir by comparison. This review is for this particular location of Tim Hortons, situated after security and outside GATE E84 in the U.S. DEPARTURES TERMINAL at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR). It is not, strictly speaking, a review of the Tim Hortons chain. Let me say first that I'm an overall fan of Tim's. On cold snowy day en route to Whistler or dodging the rain in Vancouver, a hot cup of coffee and a couple of sour-cream glazed Tim Bits [donut holes] are comforting to the soggy soul. Thus, whenever I fly out of Canada with some time to kill at the gate, I look forward to a final fulfillment at this gate-side outpost. Which makes the experience all the more disappointing. [1] First of all, there's usually a ridiculously long line, since there aren't many food options in this terminal. Usually because the cashier is incompetent. [2] For some reason, I've never had a competent cashier. Yesterday, the otherwise smiling fellow asked me what donut and drink I would like, after I'd just told him what donut and drink I'd like. Then he asked me what drink I'd like. Then he asked me what size bread I would like for the BLT sandwich (I didn't know there was a size difference? I mean, whatever comes with the combo in the picture, please!). He then hoped he'd typed in the correct combo price and was confused why the $5.60 should have transformed into $6.27. Oh, he explained to me, there is tax. Thank you. [3] Why are they always out of CHILI?? Seriously, it's been several attempts now, over a year or more, and each time they are out of chili. I decided to try the NEW STRAWBERRY BANANA DONUT. Looked good on the banner, with red jelly filling oozing out the middle. Well, I got the last donut, and it was the smallest one you'd ever seen. It tasted gooey, but not in a delicious way. I wondered if they were undercooked or something. There was some strawberry jelly squirted on the outside. I quietly returned the donut and they gave me my third-choice replacement (remember, they'd run out of flavours). Even the HONEY CRULLER seemed smaller than regular locations. I wonder if it's deliberate... Only good thing: the sandwich lady makes 'em quickly. Unfortunately, the sandwiches aren't good enough to redeem the shoddy service and surprisingly lower standard in food quality. We got 2 that had ham (in a big wad) and 2 with no ham - only lettuce and tomatoes. I'm sorry but that kind of lack of service won't get repeat customers. So beware when you order. I've never heard of Tim Hortons since I'm from LA, but I guess it's the Dunkin Donuts of Canada. I was stuck at the airport for 3 hours, so I decided to try their donuts. The nice kid in front of me said that their Sour Cream Glazed donut was "to die for," so I got that and a Canadian Maple since I'm in Canada. I also got a large cup of coffee. I'm a coffee snob, so their coffee was ok, but their donuts....oh, sweet heaven, they were so good! The Canadian Maple had cream in the middle and sweet maple on top...I probably could have eaten 10 of them in one sitting. I wanted to take some home, so I went back. The lady recognized me and said, "Oh, you're back." I told her that I was taking them home to LA, and she probably thought that I was making it up. 3 Canadian Maples went into my carry on bag and safely tucked under the seat. read more

On flying from Vancouver to Philadelphia with a puppy on the way to training to be a service animal, I had a few moments before I received the puppy to eat breakfast. I purchased a sausage biscuit, add cheese and a cup of coffee. Coffee is served immediately. I ordered coffee regular and it tastes as it should. It is served at an appropriately steaming hot level. There is sufficient body and caffeine in the brew, and as it cools, the flavor maintains without turning bitter. 4 minutes after the order is placed, the wrapped item is handed to me. It is warm and it weighed in at about 5 ounces. I sat down and unwrapped the sandwich. The biscuit had been cut and appeared grilled. It had a slightly crunchy exterior, moist and satisfying inside, a little bland. The sausage patty was well-seasoned, hung over the edge of the biscuit by about 1/4 inch. There was no shine from sausage that came fresh from the grill. I chalked it up to being absorbed by the biscuit. On taking a bite, I came to the realization that the sausage was not fresh from the grill. It was a little dry. Not bad for fast food, and mustard will always help.
