Unfortunately Timber Dental feels like an urgent care for your teeth. In my very first appointment and meeting with my dentist I was immediately upsold on procedures and surgeries - before they even had a chance to ask about my dental history. I am definitely someone who needs to build a rapport with my doctors so this was a major turn off from the start. But as someone who also hates finding new providers, I went back a few more times for cleanings. My most recent appointment was supposed to occur on a Monday morning. I was told that my appointment was canceled the Friday afternoon before (despite confirming it via text). I had already taken PTO to attend my appointment so to find out in the afternoon before they were closed all weekend was very frustrating. I was told the reason it was canceled was because my insurance had expired (I have a new insurance provider) and they decided to cancel it without getting a hold of me. Let's just say I will be looking for another provider going forward rather than rescheduling my appointment. read more

This is by far the best dental team I have experienced in my 74 yrs both nationally and internationally. Appointments are always on time. It begins with the front desk as Hailey expertly navigates your insurance, explaining services and associate costs.. My dental hygienist, Paige, is the best. She is careful and thorough. Even her numbing shots are practically painless. Her associate, Elijah, is excellent at his many tasks. My doctor, Jim, is thorough, professional and explains the process throughout, His associate, Sky, is also excellent and professional. Everyone there is professional, good communicators, courteous and kind. They all seem to truly enjoy their work and each other. It's great teamwork! I am grateful to have this amazing team. This is the first time I've left a review because I feel so many negative feelings towards this business. Timber dental is expensive and recommends unnecessary procedures. The dentists are inadequate, I had a filling fall out several times in less than a year, they wanted to charge me full price to fix their mistake. The staff is incompetent and I've had too many issues with them rescheduling my appointments at short notice. I've been quoted incorrect prices and was overcharged. I kept going back because I thought maybe it wasn't "that bad" and the people are friendly enough... they just aren't very skilled and it seems like every staff member is there on their first day. I'm just not used to going to these type of corporate dental clinics. I had a private practice dentist for years and they were so much better. read more

High pressure tactics to upsell their cleanings and everything else. Despite having $4000 coverage through my insurance, somehow had to spend $1000 out of pocket for yet another "deep cleaning". Oh surprise, five months later I find out they were overpaid and I have a $400 credit. Pretty sure they had no intention of telling me that, as we'd already established I was no longer their patient. I only found out accidentally. Supposedly they're refunding me in THREE weeks... My first experience with them the prior year was when my front teeth were crumbling, likely due to a Vomiting disorder. Was $10k up front to fix. I said I don't have $10k and what are my options. I got a shrug and "try a dental school". It's all money money money to them. (My kids paid it for me.) They legitimately do not give f*k one about their patients. After nearly 8 years with Timber Dental I've opted to find another dental practice due to impersonal scheduling practices. The office sent me a text Friday afternoon telling me "due to scheduling shifts" they've moved my appointment time up for the coming Monday. This wasn't an ask. Then an auto-generated email came in saying the same thing. They require 48 hours notice but can't give the patients the same respect. Reminds me of the crappy airline practiced where they bump your flight without offering an alternate. Not a good look! I called to inquire why the change and expressed due to work I can't make the new assigned time. After a somewhat snarky reply from the staff, they advised staffing shortages were the cause of the shifts. I understand that in end-stage capitalism times we're all pressed but staffing changes are not an excuse to auto-assign new appointment times to patients who booked 6 months out. My family and I have visited Timber Dental for a few years and have been happy with the general experience of visiting this office and the type of care we receive. Recently, something has changed for the worse. There may be too much turnover, and they may be understaffed. I am not here to speculate why; I can only share the result, which is my experience. Yesterday, I took my daughter in for a routine cleaning. We arrived early and were admitted almost as soon as we arrived. The dental hygienist quickly took X-rays and began cleaning. The cleaning part was fast and took less than 10 minutes. If this were the end of the experience, this review would be five stars. Then, we had to wait for the dentist to review the X-rays and check themselves. It took 45 minutes for the dentist to come in and have a look. This is an unusually long amount of time. Unacceptable. So, we're done, right? The assistant asked us to hold tight while they checked us out at the front desk. This is a normal and familiar part of the process, but we waited an additional 10 minutes until we could go and get checked out. Unacceptable. At checkout, we received a document showing the estimated "patient responsibility" for the next service. The patient's responsibility for the next service is $74.20. This is okay. The unusual part is that I had to prepay. Reading closely at the document, I see that it says, "I understand I will be asked to prepay the estimated balance to reserve my chair time." This seems like a bad policy, but it's not a big deal, and after being there and waiting for over an hour, we wanted to be done and leave. Today, I looked at my credit card receipt for the amount I prepaid, and it was for $91, not $74.20, which was the "patient responsibility." This seems wrong. I called their billing department to ask about this, and they told me they do not know the exact patient's responsibility amount due to what insurance may or may not cover. They will get back to me. I am a reasonable person. It is unreasonable that they charge me for service I have yet to receive, but I understand this is their policy. The issue I have is the amount they charged me may or may not be the correct amount, AND they charged me a different and higher amount than what they told me they would charge me. Unacceptable. If it were just one detail that was off, I would have written it off and not come here to write a review to let others know. There are too many points of friction for this one visit, and so this is why I decided to let others know. Oh, and lastly. My daughter loves the wooden handle toothbrushes they give out after every cleaning. She didn't get one this time. read more

I was seen here for the first time to have a cleaning and got through the entire process of taking XRays and being seen by the dentist to be told they didn't have an availability for a cleaning for several months. The dentist told me I had 7 cavities when I've never had one before and get regular care about every 6 months. They made me pre-pay for the 2 subsequent appointments. Less than an hour before my appointment for my "fillings", they texted and canceled because the provider I was seeing that day "wasn't comfortable with the treatment plan". That provider hadn't even seen me in person (the initial dentist I saw wasn't available that day). Clearly, even the dentists working in the office together don't trust one another's practices. Surely a dentist can diagnose a simple cavity but apparently not here. I went to another clinic and had no cavities. They're just looking to make as much money off of you as possible here. read more

The absolute worst care, completely unaccountable. I was at the bethany and lombard locations for a regular check up and to have work done. Both times they left me waiting for 3-4 hours as they forgot i was even there and they could not find a hygienist available. They then forgot to let me know that the night guard I ordered had not even come in and caused me to drive an hour roundtrip twice because of their lack of communication. If you want to be treated like a third class citizen by a company that does not care about you as a customer, and offers no accountability for their carelessness, go see timber dental. read more

After making an appointment (which they verified my insurance) and arriving at the dentist office (and waiting 30 minutes in the lobby to be seen), I was told my dental insurance had a year long waiting period for a typical teeth cleaning and they could not see me. I called my insurance to verify this because it seemed very odd. My insurance verified this was not accurate at all and what they told me at Timber Dental was entirely incorrect. I've never written a negative review. I haven't wanted to do so because I've been on the receiving end of unfair reviews. However... I recently had an overlay done at Timber Dental and there were a few complications. That happens. Then, I found out that the insurer denied payment. We now owe a lot. Why schedule a procedure prior to the auth? I would not have scheduled it if I had known it wouldn't be covered. I sent in a letter of complaint and asked for discussion of the bill. No response. I sent a second letter. No response. I then called and left a message. No response. I called again. I talked to someone and asked that the owners call me. A week later, no response. So we called and asked to be called...again. We did learn that the claim is on appeal. No one had communicated this to us. Meanwhile, we keep getting texts reminding us of the bill. read more

Avoid Timber Dental if you're looking for continuity of care. Each time I've gone I get seen by a different dentist, which leads to differing diagnoses for mouth issues. Also if you do book an appointment, don't be like me and go at the end of the day. I felt extremely rushed during my teeth cleaning and didn't feel confident in my treatment plan. This review is intended to warn anybody seeking emergency dental services, or those with any level of dental anxiety, to avoid this organization like the plague! I badly cracked a tooth Wed, exposing a nerve and resulting in blinding pain. I followed Timber Dental's aggressive online marketing for emergency dental services and was scheduled same day. When I got there I met my dental provider, Dr. Salar. She was professional, confident and clearly unable to have amassed more than a few years as a fully credentialed dentist, making her a novice clinician. Yet here she was, charged by her organization to provide on demand emergency dental without proper supervision or support. Dr. Salar recommended a root canal, though she told me she couldn't offer it and I'd need to wait until 1/29. I found that very funny for a business aggressively marketing emergency dental services. "No problem", she told me she would debride the tooth and I would be out of pain until 3 weeks from that day when I could receive a root canal. When she began the process she injected my gums with two cartridges of anesthetic. As soon as she began drilling I experienced an intense and blinding pain. She stopped, exclaiming it was a "hot tooth", injected me with 2 more cartridges of anesthetic, waited, and began again. At the first sign of pain she aborted the process, told me she didn't have the tools to numb me correctly for the procedure. Stuffed a temporary filling and sent me on my way, telling me to take Advil. She never once suggested that seek services elsewhere as this would be significantly painful once the anesthetic wore off................. the soonest appointment she could get me was for an extraction on Monday. She never advised that I may want to see if someone outside of Timber could get me in sooner. Once the anesthetic wore off the pain became intolerable. I'm sure whoever is reading this understands what I mean by intolerable pain. It's not that I couldn't work, that was completely out of the question, it's the type of pain wherein one begins to question whether or not they will make it out alive, need to get pliers and take matters in one's own hands, or find some method of completely tuning out from the physical body. When I sought different emergency dental services this morning (Friday) I was told that records are kept on local servers and my medical records from this as marketed "emergency" dental procedure wouldn't be available to share during normal business hours, on a weekday. The fact that you are advertising emergency services without requisite her systems is offensive. Industry standard is cloud based EMR systems. The dentist I found today was able to diagnose and debride with minimal pain, far less anesthetic and in about 40 minutes from check in. I see your business model, Timber. Bring newly credentialed providers on staff in a turn and burn system, under-equip them, under pay them, over promise for them and then scapegoat them when stuff hits the fan. Dr. Salar is an amazing, though inexperienced, provider. She should not have been put in the place she was. This is your wake up call, Timber. Get it together, stop promising emergency dental services when providers aren't equipped for a debridement, or risk the business repercussions for being disingenuous. I pray you heed this message so you don't continue to cause undue suffering in my community. Dr. Salar didn't even inform me I had an abscess, nor provide antibiotics. Timber Dental, you are skirting the line of malpractice. Please get better now, Timber Dental! read more

They gave me a courtesy call canceling my child's appointment the morning of. Busy parents don't always answer calls at 8am so we drove across town. They also said it was because of the type of appointment I requested - not accurate. The receptionist made notes on the account when I made the appointment about a future ortho consult. We had one terrible experience related to insurance before, but came back because they worked to resolve it and because of the convenience of multiple office locations. I will say that the staff have always been very kind and make the actual dental experience comfortable. We will consider coming back for that reason. They also squeezed in x-rays this morning, but that still requires an additional visit which I was trying to avoid. My recommendation would be to consider that parents have to work twice as hard to make appointments happen so don't bump us first. read more

I chose timber dental after looking up local dental offices. I was looking for an implant service for one of my teeth. After waiting well over half a year to get to the final installment of the crown I have now been delayed three times from finally being done with the procedure. After arriving at my appointment only to be told that the crown was lost and that I would have to reschedule my irritation with this dentist office became great. After being called today and told that my crown is still not ready (after waiting the twelve days from the first delay) my irritation has grown immense enough to motivate me to leave this one star review. The quality of care and customer service is no greater or lesser than any other business on average, but the never ending excuses and delays convinces me fully that this is an establishment where nobody cares about doing the right thing or upholding their word as professionals. The lack of preparedness and over a month in delay from finishing the last and simplest part of my procedure has left me in physical discomfort. The fact I am paying an exorbitant amount of money for such shoddy work leaves me in mental discomfort. In conclusion I recommend anyone reading this far to reconsider their options as far as dentistry in Portland goes, and find a better and far more reliable office than this one. First of all, the support staff and hygienists are great. Since these are the folks I interact with the bulk of the time, I keep going back. My issue is with Dr. Garcia himself. I've been a patient of his for almost three years. He has always calls me by the wrong name. Kind of a red flag that he can't even be bothered to read a single word on my chart, but whatever. Every single time I see him, he talks about a full-mouth restoration; a series of procedures that would cost me tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket. My response is always the same; "great...lets come up with a treatment plan that targets the most immediate concerns first, maximizes my insurance benefits, and meets what I think is a pretty decent budget for care". I don't have thousands of dollars sitting around, but I can do a little every year and eventually get it done. HIS response is always the same. "Do it all, do it now. If you can't afford it, finance it." This is unacceptable to me and since we can't find middle ground, my treatment gets pushed off year after year. I keep trying to book appointments with a different provider so at least my most recent records are there and I don't have to start all over with a new dentist, but every time I somehow end up in his chair. It's really frustrating and I'll probably end up going somewhere else soon. read more

I had a cavity "fixed" here in November 2023. Dr Jess was the dentist. Hopefully she isn't there anymore. During the procedure she was cursing a lot and venting frustration which I found super unprofessional. Later on that night, the filling popped out while I was flossing! I've never heard about this happening to anyone ever. Clearly the filling was done improperly. I would expect much better for such a common procedure. I called Timber the next day hoping to get the tooth fixed asap. Rather than getting me in immediately to have the tooth fixed, they tried to schedule me for later the following week!?! So, in addition to offering no apologies for needing to go through an uncomfortable procedure all over again and the extreme inconvenience of wasting my precious time, they expected me to go a week with a big, sensitive, gaping hole in my rear molar. By the way, They also charged me in full for the filling and offered no refund. To put it gently, Timber Dental is f#ck#ng horrible. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and take your business elsewhere. read more

I will forever sing praises for this place! I was scheduled to see another doctor (I really wanted to see Dr Garcia but he didn't have any openings). So I was pleasently surprised when I saw Dr. Garcia, who said he would see me instead! You guys, he's awesome. Very gentle, soft spoken, and caring! I highly recommend him! The dental assistants, Amethyst and Nick, were also very kind and funny. They helped put me at ease a bit since I can't emphasize enough as to how increidibly terrified of the dentist office I normally am! I have been going to Timber Dental for several years now. The quality of dentist work is excellent. In my recent appointment, the hygienists (forgot her name) was a straight-up ninja with the scaler and floss and cleaned my nasty teeth quickly and thoroughly. Dr. Garcia was able to detect a cavity before it became a serious issue and schedule follow-up treatment promptly. He made getting my teeth drilled an easy and enjoyable experience. Within hours of the procedure, my mouth was back to normal and it doesn't even feel like he just put some fillings in. Thanks, Doc! read more

I don't really leave reviews but this place is a cash grabbing scam. Went in for a cleaning and the hygienist measured my gums and said they look great, just need a cleaning but i have two teeth that could maybe use a deep clean. I tell her that I'm ok for now I don't have any pain and would like to proceed with a normal cleaning. The manager then comes in to try to tell me that I need a deep cleaning which costs $300 out of pocket and that they will not move forward with a cleaning without the deep clean. This would also require a second visit to deep clean again in 3 months and then they can do a normal cleaning. I obviously said this seems like a scam and that I will be leaving. I've never had an issue with my gums or teeth and they were clearly just trying to make people feel like their only option is to do what they recommend which is the most expensive procedure. Told could not get any cleaning due to not enough time although it was why I had scheduled this visit. Also told they will need to do deep cleaning in two visits for insurance purposes. He has been there for simple and complicated events with my teeth, and has always had a painless and timely result. He has dealt with crowns, implants, a cracked tooth and more. I went in for a cleaning. All the staff were very friendly and professional. I liked the screen above the dentist chair that the dentist could easily walk me through the photos and x-rays of my teeth. As a bonus, you can watch Netflix on the screen too during you're cleaning or what have you. Didn't feel like they were trying to upsell me on any unnecessary procedures either. Only negative is that the space is a little loud and not as private as what I was used to at my previous dentist. There's not really rooms as much as partition walls. Certainly enough privacy for me to feel comfortable though. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a new dentist. read more

I have had Stevie (dental hygienist, I believe) and Dr. Garcia work on me a couple times now and they are the best! Garcia just did my filling yesterday and I barely felt a thing! Even when he gave me the shot in my gums! It was pure MAGIC. I used to be terrified of the dentist, I hadn't been in nearly 5/6 years before my coworker recommended this place. I've been in 3x in the past month and actually want to return every 6 months. ALL of the staff there are great and genuine. Also, they have TVs on the ceiling and will play something for you... I got to lay back and watch Blue Planet (natural calming effect, duh) while they worked away on my teethies. I saw Dr. Garcia for a root canal and I can honestly say that the thoughtfulness and care dedicated to me as a patient went far beyond any expectations I could have outlined going in. A bit of a backstory: I had a painful dental procedure a few years ago, like I felt the drill and it left me scarred. I avoided the dentist like the plague, and even cleanings made me shake with dread. When I had severe pain shooting up my jawline and disrupting sleep I refused to go to the dentist because I knew I'd be facing a drill again. Enter Timber Dental: The moment I met with Dr. Garcia and his assistant(s) I felt cared for and heard. He took the time to ask what about my prior experiences made me nervous and outlined why he would ensure I was taken care of. It was also very obvious the staff genuinely enjoy their jobs, all of the assistants were so friendly and positive. The dentists and assistants I met all had excellent chairside manner and one thing that struck me was the in-depth answers provided to my questions. I walked out of my initial consultation with a clear understanding of what was causing the pain in my mouth and some options for fixing it. I should also add they got me in on a Saturday at the last minute with no appointment, from the get go their aim was to help me feel my best again. Never in my life have I had a doctor take the time to personally reach out the day prior to my procedure to see how I was doing since he was aware of my severe anxiety. Then, I came in for my root canal and even though it took a ton of extra time he was very careful to ensure I was completely numb and at the slightest sign of discomfort he was responsive. I cannot express enough the gratitude I feel to Dr. Garcia and his staff for my experience. I usually start crying upon entering the dentist out of sheer fear and anxiety, today I left the office feeling joyful to be rid of pain and happy because I found the only dentist I will be going to in Portland. It is so rare to have a doctor who takes the time to really care about your experience and comfort, but Dr. Garcia did just that and more. Thank you so much for a great experience! I have terrible dental anxiety and I took a chance on Timber Dental. The appointment did not go very well and we were unable to complete the appointment. That was not the problem, things happen. The issue came when I asked for a refund for the work that was not completed and they offered me $180 of an $1100 appointment. When I spoke with the office manager Tyler, he stated that, that is all I was entitled to. He and his office sent claims to my insurance for work they did not complete. Then Tyler came back with a $580 refund, which sounds good but is not the entire amount. Due to dental anxiety I take a dental medication and nitrous oxide. I was told that because I would like both I need to pay $350 for a monitor to make sure I am safe. If that is policy no biggie I am happy to oblige. I paid the $350 and there was no monitor present at my appointment. I have been unable to bring this point up to Tyler as he has stopped returning my phone calls. I asked another employee for help and she hung up in my face. I was also charged for the medication when I was required to pick up the medication from the pharmacy, pay for it, and administer it my self. I would not use Timber Dental on MLK and Freemont. Bad customer service, poor communication and uncapable to perform the basic functions of dentistry. read more

The actually visit with the dentist was pretty short. He was kind and shared insight about what to do for my teeth. I've bounced all around the country and have had dental care spanning the entire spectrum of quality. Overall, my experience with the crew here is younger, less experienced dentists that have had little time with treatments and general patient care. For example, I had a chipped tooth fixed by the team here, and while it looks nice, the fix is not smoothed out. It affects my bite (lower front tooth, when biting down, now touches the rear of my top front tooth) a bit of detail work was just overlooked here, and it's pretty frustrating given the cost of dental work. The office is in a good location and it's nice and clean, etc., but I'm certainly not the happiest in the overall quality of craftsmanship in what should be truly precision work. EDIT: fixed some of the things relating to the chipped tooth repair, but a bit frustrated it couldn't have been done correctly the first time. I was also urged to replace a filling with a crown, although I'm a bit skeptical whether or not that was necessary work - I'm a realist when it comes to my dental health and it's impeccable. Avoid Timber Dental. I transferred here as a new patient to find a dentist closer to home. On my very first appointment they told me I needed to replace ALL four of my fillings and get a deep cleaning. Even though it felt like a cash grab from the newbie patient, I agreed to all of it. Days, a week, two weeks, months go by...the fillings they replaced in my bottom back molars were giving me so much pain when I ate. I went back at least ten times where they offered to adjust the filling. At one point they even replaced the fillings. When that still didn't work, they sent me on my way with a refund check for the crap work. I get to my new dentist - guess what? There's a crack in one of the teeth they filled! So due to their greed and incompetence, I have since gotten that tooth crowned, and now tomorrow, I will be going in for my very first root canal on that same tooth. GREED GREED GREED is how they keep up their tea service and shiny interior. Avoid this place. Or prepare for a two year follow-up journey of increasingly serious dental procedures and maxed out insurance claims. read more
