I recently brought my 9 y/o Yorkie in to be examined after a fall. After a brief and cursory examination, the lady vet declared that he had a broken jaw. The physical exam consisted of briefly raising an upper lip. No X-ray was taken. After a long wait, one of the assistants presented me with a $2K+ proposal for "surgery" and offered to schedule it for the next day. When I protested the lack of X-ray evidence, I was told that it would require anesthesia and would be hard on my dog to be anesthestised twice. I decided to get a second opinion and drove 100+ miles to find out that he was misdiagnosed. X-rays (without anesthesia) showed no fracturing. I shudder to think that my little friend might have been carved up for no purpose but profit. Timberland appears to be more interested in covering it's overhead than providing professional care... NOT RECOMMENDED !!! read more

We have been coming here for 15 years. Not sure why but every single time we come here the appointments are 1-2hours late. The prices have skyrocketed and the service got worse. This last time it was $750 for two dogs X-rays and I waited for exactly 30 days before I called OFA to find out that my dogs were not even in their system, and that the staff at this vet facility never bothered to send off my applications. I have been coming here because the X-rays were good and it was worth the drive but now I am cutting my losses. After talking to the supervisor they refused to do anything to compensate us for their poor service, or a real apology. read more

Although we are not full time residents near this vet, we have lived half time near Timberland Veterinary Hospital for 28 years. If ever needed, we always knew we would take our dog/s here. Our minds were certainly changed today. Our dog had an unexpected seizure or stroke while out on a walk. I called this veterinary office, and a lady at the office answered. I explained our dog needed medical help and explained the situation. The lady on the phone calmly explained to me they were closing shortly and could not see us. I thanked her, got off the phone and desperately tried to reach other veterinary offices, to no avail. I called Timberland Veterinary Hospital again, and the same lady answered the phone. I asked if she would please reconsider seeing us, as we needed help and were less than 7 minutes from them. She put me on hold for quite some time and came back and declined to see us, once again, stating they were near closing for the day. She gave me another vet's phone number, which is no longer in service. I could hardly believe the callous handling of this business. I will certainly share with others our experience and hope no other person in emotional/desperate need of a vet contacts this facility. We will forever drive by Timberland Veterinary Hospital on a regular basis with a very bad opinion instead of the smile we once had knowing a rural veterinary clinic was near. Never again! read more

Dr Cheryl is very knowledgeable, her staff is amazing, I drive 2 hours each way to take my 3 dogs to Timberland, it's worth the drive knowing their getting the very best care I could possibly give them! Timberland/Dr McDermott has been my vet for over 10 years. They are very busy, because they are good. Cheryl has run the gambit with my kids. Spay, neuter, shots, wellness, Breeder days, OFA's, prenatal care, and C-Sections. She does it all at reasonable prices. I was a perplexed about the Toni P review. First, why would you come all the way from Everett for an odd nipple. Second, there has never been a Dr Graham at Timberland. Third, if you are an actual experienced, responsible breeder, you don't go vet shopping at the 11th hour. You also pretty much know when pups are expected within a range of days. They would never force any dog into active labor without the owners written permission. They would also do an xray beforehand. They handle a lot of emergencies, so unless this was your first litter and you panicked, most dogs can free whelp easily. The size of the area isn't a big deal. As far as Cheryl not calling you back, I wouldn't either. I checked out your review profile, and you seem to be an habitual negative reviewer. So based on everything, I'm guessing you were looking for freebies. Just my opinion. read more

My observation with this clinic is quantity over quality. I took my pregnant bitch here as I had a referral to them for my other dog. One of the nipples of my pregnant bitch looked off so I decided to take her with me and see if this clinic could check her out. I asked for a x-Ray to assure my dog was pregnant. The vet informed me she had two and the nipple was fine. I was relieved to hear this. Dr Graham suggested we induce my bitch before they do an emergency c-section. I was asking her if my bitch was under distress or why she would want to do this? She never did answer my question. Instead she gave my bitch calcium and within seconds my bitch was in labor. I was in shock and more so when Dr Graham told me I had to whelp the pups in my car. I told Dr Graham I was not prepared to whelp a litter in my car, she handed me two towels and told me it was quieter in my car. I repeated I was not prepared but she had someone escort me outside. Within 30 minutes, a small pup was born. Almost 4 hours later no one checked on me or my dog. I had no internet service in Ethel, WA, finally I drove my car in front of the clinic and ran inside stating I needed help. I went back to my car and Momma dog who was really stressed out, had the pup in her mouth and was bouncing from chair to chair. I finally got her to give me the pup. I settled her and the pup back to the floor of my car. The owner of the Vet Clinic, Dr Cheryl McDermott came out and asked me a couple questions and said she'd give her some more calcium. She never checked my bitch. Another person came out and said she was suppose to give my dog calcium but she didn't want to and told me to do so, so I did. Dr McDermott did finally come back out. She checked to see if she could feel the second pup. She said she could. She went back in and came out with a shot and more calcium and gave it to my dog. She then started pushing on my dog and reached in and after several tries pulled out a pup. It wasn't moving and after I said something, Dr McDermott went in the clinic with the pup. After about 5 minutes she came out without the pup. She told me he had made it and they were suctioning him and giving him oxygen. She went back in the clinic and brought the pup out and told me to have my vet tube feed the pups and suction him more. I asked her to as the pup was gasping for air. She did take him back in and then brought him back out. He was still gasping and she told me it was normal. Again she said have my vet suction him and tube feed him. I asked her to keep the pups, I was in no hurry and wanted them to be ok. I asked several times. She just repeated about taking them to my regular vet. I also asked her to check my momma dog and she only said she saw the X-ray and there were no pups. I had to ask for hot water bottles for the trip home. The second puppy died on the way home. I don't know if his neck was damaged or not but he was screaming. I pulled over on the freeway and if I touched around his neck he screamed even louder. I tried to locate an emergency vet but I had to get service- then I was trying to locate an ER Vet in the area I was in when the pup got silent. He had died. He was stunning and big and looked healthy. Momma dog cuddled him. The other pup made it home but within 48 hours Momma dog dried up. A wonderful pug breeder, our Angel, took the pup in to put her on her momma dog, sadly she passed away. These pups were born in my car in the parking lot of Timberland Vet Hospital. I requested this clinic check my dog in but they refused. I have no idea. It took me over two weeks to get my paperwork from the clinic. Btw- it didn't match. They sent me my momma dogs paperwork twice and it didn't match. I also have asked for Dr McDermott to return my call. I called or emailed for over two weeks. I always got that Dr McDermott was out of the office but they would give her my message. She has never returned my call. I would like to know why they induced my bitch- she wasn't in labor and had a normal temperature and I'd like to know why they induced and then had me whelp the litter in my car even after I told them I was not set up to whelp a litter in my car? I'd also like to know why after I asked for them to take the pups/momma dog to keep an eye on them that they refused? It's been over two months, Dr McDermott still has not returned my call. Again, after several months of calling the clinic and asking for a Vet/Dr McDermott to return my call, I've not gotten a returned call. read more

Highly Recommend!!! We would like to go about the proper channels to breed our beautiful French Bulldogs. After taking our Frenchies to a couple of local vets we were getting very discouraged because they wouldn't even perform the proper OFA exams, purely because they did not like the concept of breeding. I reached out to a few groups on Facebook to see vets that they recommended, Timberland Veterinary Hospital was highly recommended to us by several people. We drove the 5 hours to Ethel. Definitely worth it! They performed the proper exams and did not give us the run around. Planning on making the trip again when it's time to breed. Brought a **** in to schedule a c-section. Cheryl argued with us about doing the section and said instead to "keep watching." The day after we wanted to schedule the section, she ruptured her uterus and we lost half the puppies. Additionally the scheduled section was about $400 this one since it was an emergency was $1600. Maybe all she cared about was padding her bill?!?! She blamed it on staffing! The rest of the staff is great, just ask to see another vet, not Cheryl McDermott. Dr. McDermott and Timberland Veterinary Hospital are top notch. It's a bit over an hour each way, but we took both of our female dogs there. The first was for a reproductive soundness exam, and then we did OFA and genetic testing. Next we were back for progesterone tests and semen flown in from Texas. We go back in three weeks for ultrasounds for both of them. Fingers crossed we get Borzoi and Lab puppies! If you have a dog precious to you, this is the vet to trust her or him to. read more

We have taken our dogs to visit this location both for the breeders day and for random problems with our dogs and we are always treated well. No one treats you like you are dumb or like you are making the wrong choices with your animals like we have been treated at other vets. I've been a client at this clinic for 10+ years. We have had great care and we've had not so great care. The last time I took my sick kitty into this clinic, Dr prescribed antibiotics for the diarrhea and gabapentine for the stress. Gabapentine most certainly can affect the mobility of the animal and for a cat with diarrhea, this was not such a good thing! I did not get the antibiotics, but they called me at home and said that I could pick them up the next day. It is a minimum 45 minute drive one way. I was not happy. I cannot recommend this clinic to anyone, because the care they give is not consistent. My kitty did not make it. I buried her yesterday. And although I received a letter that I was no longer considered to be a client, I had no intention of returning. read more

I am so grateful for Cheryl and her staff.I showed up at her clinic at 8:30am before they were open and they put my two dogs as a priority.They had met up with a porcupine that night and their faces we're covered in quills.We were in and out.The estimate was high so that there were be no last minute "price shockers" and after it was all said and done it was considerably lower than expected. Hands down my favorite. Dr. Cheryl actually listens to the pet owner. Staff is friendly and truly care about the animals. You may need to wait as it is a small clinic with a LOT of clients. If there is an emergency or an urgent situation, your vaccination or well check may have to wait, but you can be assured that when it is your dog that needs the full staff attention, you will get it. Prices are reasonable. Reproductive services are out of this world. She treats the dog show community very well and respects us for all our work. Dr. Cheryl frequently attends conferences to expand her knowledge. She also holds "Breeder day" for all your health testing needs at once in a relaxed non show atmosphere. THE BEST!!! read more

This clinic waiting room is quite small and every visit was longer than at any other vet I've used. I understand emergencies happen but not everyday. Scheduling appropriately is key for any appointment based business. Ok folks, don't get upset at my review because it differs from yours. This is MY experience with Timberland Vet. The first time we used them was for our Airedales hind legs. I wanted a second opinion on the diagnosis on his right rear leg with an ACL tear. She said it felt that way but we'll take x-rays and after she saw the results she said she would send them to the surgeon to see what he said. She said she couldn't see a tear on him. We never heard back from her even after calling Timberland to see what the surgeon said. The next time we went in, our Airedale was not feeling well and had some lumps on his neck. We took him back to Timberland and she said she was pretty sure he had Lymphoma cancer. She did blood work and she said she would send it out to be tested. The test came back as positive for the cancer. She recommended Olympia Vet Cancer Center. We went there and they came up with 3 different treatments. We decided on 1 and asked them if they could send the prescription to Timberland because we lived in Packwood. They said they would. We contacted Timberland 4 different time for the medicine over a 3 day period before they finally said they would fill the prescription. They told us on Saturday we could pick it up by 3:00 when they close. We explained that it was a 1 hour drive for us and since it was 2:15 we couldn't make that time. They said "well pick it up on Monday." We were out of the medication and needed it on the weekend. They said we could pick it up Sunday between 10-5. We arrived at 2 on Sunday and the girl told us she doesnt open the doors until 3. We explained to her what we were told and after a little argument she opened the door and sold us the medication. It just doesnt seem the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. The doctor, in my opinion is very unfriendly and doesnt seem to really care about the animals. While we are there she doesn't explain what is going on. She has walked out of the exam room numerous times and were just left there sitting wondering what's going on.
