So, for me, a 9 hole, par-3, public golf course where I can play night golf and throw back a few cold bruskis is the perfect place for me. I am not concerned with the quality of the greens, difficulty of the course, depth of the rough, or any of the other things real golf enthusiasts might care about. "Easy" golf courses are challenging enough for me as it is. That being said, Highland Greens is the only lit golf course in the C-T. There's something really cool about playing night golf that makes it more fun (probably because if I suck I can just blame it on the fact that it's too dark). If you're a casual golfer who is looking for a place to go, or if you've always wanted to give it a shot but were afraid of looking stupid, this is the perfect place. And since it'll only run you $13-15 for 9 holes, it won't break the bank either.

But that is not why I am willing to drive long distances to play the wonderful game of Golf. It's because I enjoy playing on a golf course that are difficult to get on unless you're a member. And if a family or friend invites to you to play, I never say no. The Vineyards Golf Course is a beautifully designed course that easily blends in with its surroundings. The course has three set of tee boxes which we chose to play the back tees of course. Why??, well because the young men I was playing with can drive ball 300 yards plus and sometimes on the fairway. It sure did not help my game when I attempted to drive the ball the distances they seem capable. I found the Vineyards golf course challenging with its rolling fairways, protected by large meandering sand bunkers, false fronts and hazards. We had a windy day that played in our favor on some holes and others which easily challenged us. The par-3 holes were a variety in length, direction and difficulty. The secondary roughs had fescue grasses and in some cases we were lined up along a corn field farm. Vineyards was much more challenging than I anticipated, but I very much enjoyed the course and would love to play there again before the season ends.

I used a hodgepodge of my dad's clubs and my uncle's. The TaylorMade driver was straight as an arrow and hit straight and long where I wanted it. The chipping in this thick New England grass (rough) was another story. I think TEE BOXES were in pretty good shape. The CARTS have nice navigations systems. The course is a bit dry for early October so clearly, they did not see enough rain this year. Some fairways were a little chewy/patchy. The GREENS were in very nice shape. I had a better day there excluding that they were as fast as California which I did not anticipate but should have given the drier conditions. This is the best short course in this area and well beyond with some legit challenging holes and a diverse layout with sloping hills. Nothing boring to speak of my friends. The CLUBHOUSE is beautiful, and dad says the food keeps getting better and better.

Members of the pro shop were professional and courteous. Price: $85-110/round. Affordable lunch, drinks, and snacks! Pro Shop: 8/10 Lots to pick from here! They had awesome vest, quarter-zips, hats, and more! I was surprised with the lack of variety: no lefty clubs, very limited women's collection (gloves, shirts, skirts). Tee boxes were a mess, dirt and mud dominated the designated teeing areas on most holes. Fairways were soggy in many places ... even though there hadn't been significant rain in three days. Greens were very slow and not well maintained - unrepaired ball marks, etc. Finally let's talk cost - $128.50 to ride 18. There are several municipal courses in the area that play better, are in better shape, and cost less. The only highlights were the friendly staff - starter, cashier, drink cart driver, and cart wranglers. Management needs to fix the course before they can demand these prices.

The course is in fantastic shape and in a picturesque setting. The autumn foliage was still present and many holes were simply breathtaking. Oh but those hills! I am 64 and in good shape. I always walk and push a cart. Next time I will definitely rent an electric cart! I was nearly exhausted by the end of 18. The woman in the golf shop was super friendly and super helpful! A true people person whose love for golf and the course were obvious. One of my favorite courses in Connecticut. I will definitely be back!

We went to lunch with two friends, one of whom is a 100 y/o WWII veteran. Dave, our server, was especially respectful when, after noticing the Veteran's hat, thanked him for his service. That meant a lot. I'd also like to mention Amy, who was very accommodating. Keith, the manager, was, as always emplary... he took the time to come to our table and speak to us. That also meant a lot! I have to say that the fish and chips are the best I have ever tasted. Crispy fish outside and tender inside... also, the fries were SO good! Crispy and seasoned just right... I say the fish and chips would make Gordon Ramsay proud! I highly recommend this establishment!
