Neil's was a stellar place to eat! I will definitely come back when I'm in town. I had the ribs and one meat combo and am stuffed to the max. Even took half my ribs home! My boss had the pork chop special and it looked amazing. I honestly was sad I didn't get it. I for sure will be getting it next time if it's available. She said it was great. My coworker got a quesadilla and said he was very happy with his meal and agreed he'd like to visit again when we get back to town. I don't think you can go wrong here! You make a good choice when you choose Neil's, locally owned by Neil Henry. Neil has been cooking up some of the best bbq for years. His bbq pizza is so delicious sometimes I dream about that pizza! lol His loaded bbq baked potato is meal in itself and the homemade bread served daily on a wooden cutting board melt in your mouth with deliciousness! One of my favorites is Neil's monterey chicken smothered in sautéed mushrooms and cheese. I don't think there is a bad thing on the menu it's all great! read more

While I am not intending to harm this business in anyway, I feel u need to warn individuals that this is no longer Niels, it's called Timbers, and everyone has changed. I've gone on two occasions and the food was nearly inedible the first time, and really bad bbq the second time. The portions are very small, and they do not clean the fat from their bbq. The brisket had to be sent back, only to be too tough to eat the second time. I'm not sure what has happened but this restaurant "Timbers" has been so bad we are saying goodbye to Niels, which we are very sad about. But if you can't eat the food, you can't eat it. read more

Best thing that used to be good was the Chicken Monterey. Last 2 visits were with my parents and I can't go back. The food here was so much better back in the late 80-90's when I lived there, but since then, blah and gross. The beef brisket was dried out and the last time the beef for the potato, tasted as if it had been soaked in pork fat. I will for sure not make this choice, when in town. Reading other reviews, i see they are good for selling spoiled meat, I was sick after eating it and another friends husband was sick too. read more

This was a very peculiar short visit. The review is not for the food, but the customer service or better the absence of it. I walked in on a Wednesday evening, quarter after seven, the place was close to empty. One server was on the phone while I came in, probably not seeing me. I waited maybe 5 minutes and someone else walked in after me. A server came from the back area, walking right by me without so much as looking at me and attended to the folks behind me. I was very perplexed as the server not even looked at me afterwards - Customer service? Well the guests behind did not seem to mind either - Manners? Needless to say, I did not get to eat at Neil's, so I went to Bad Bob, friendly folks there and had the biggest BBQ platter I could get. Go Bad Bob read more

Ordered pound of meat and a side for my meal to dine in. Food was brought in a cheap plastic to go container. Asked for plate. Server disappeared. Owner wandered over and said "we put that in that container for a reason and it costs to wash plates and silverware." Would not bring me a plate. Server brought me a styrofoam to go container that I ate my food out of. In my 25 years of going to this restaurant, I have never seen or heard of such from this restaurant (or any other in fact) - and from the owner's own mouth. Really sad. I'll never be back. read more

I was disappointed in my recent visit. First off, I came for the brisket. They were out of it on a Friday night at 7pm. Second off, the service was a bit lacking...but probably because they were crowded and overworked. We got the stink eye and talk back from our waitress..remember the customer is the focus of the experience. Prices are high for what you get...comparing to other bbq joints. The bread and butter was great...3.19 for frozen rings not a deal. Chicken was bland. Pork bbq was ok...slaw was ok...green beans seemed old out of the can. I cant recommend on this experience but it has been better in the past...I might try again...maybe not. read more

Went for lunch with the Mr. We really wanted some fried green tomatoes. We ordered those as an appetizer and they were wonderful! The batter wasn't too thick and they were nice and crispy. I ordered a sausage plate and he had the brisket. I thought the sausage was great. I wasn't able to finish my lunch (but I really don't eat much) and so I had a little left to take home. His brisket was a little fatty and was ok. We are from Texas and have pretty high standards. As far as TN goes, it was probably the best we've had, but that's not saying much. Now, here is the kicker... the reason for two stars. We both went home and gave our teenager the leftovers for an after school snack. Later that evening, all three of us felt sick to our stomach. Coincidence? Idk, but find it doubtful. Also, the price was pretty steep for a lunch. Around $40 for app, two lunch plates and two teas. That's my second visit there. The only reason I'd go back would be for the fried green tomatoes. Sometimes, ya just need those!! But I'll probably look for an alternative place to get them. Tummy aches suck! read more

I was driving through Dyersberg at the tail end of a business trip. Tired from the road I stopped in very hungry and excited since I was referred there. This really isn't a BBQ place. It's has the atmosphere of a musty old run down restaurant. I was really expecting more after someone referred me here. I ordered the brisket. Couldn't have been more disappointed. Dry, rubbery, sauce was this but not the good vinegar based kind. In closing, this is not the place to stop after a trip to Memphis. Serious let down potential. Thanks for reading. read more

We found Neil's on Yelp while on the way home from Gulf Shores to St. Louis, on a late Sunday afternoon, while very few other BBQ places were actually open. We wanted some BBQ from the area as we traveled thru. There weren't many recent positive reviews, but we figured we'd try it out, and we were pretty pleased! The atmosphere is cute & rustic, and the staff was pretty attentive. Between the 4 of us, we ordered fried green tomatoes, 2 BBQ sandwiches, overloaded potato & kids cheeseburger. Hubs and I brought some local farmers here recently for a "business dinner." Long story short: rude staff and below average food. Don't waste your time. We won't ever be back. ETA My Response to Neil's comments on my review 6/15/12: I think it's totally unprofessional that you would 1.) wait 7 months to post this and 2.) to respond in the manner you chose to address the problem. However, let me clarify the booking problem from what really happened since this is obviously the forum where you want to conversate. My husband does not handle booking meetings at all. I booked the meeting and gave you his name & the business we were conducting the meeting for... How it got construed into 2 seperate groups was done solely on your part and could've been avoided had someone simply called to confirm the reservation that was made weeks in advance. Also, you are correct that service should've been FAR better considering your scheduling error. As for talking with the farmers, kudos to you for taking the initiative, however I find it totally unprofessional on your part that you didn't come straight to the source. Further reinforcing that we won't be back nor will I recommend anyone else visit either. The BBQ was very dry. Search elsewhere. We usually stop in Jackson for BBQ but decided to try a new place. I wont be doing that again. They serve quesadillas at a BBQ spot. Perhaps spend less on your decor and more on your food. read more

The spicy ranch dressing is wonderful, just the perfect kick, the ranch potato salad was like eating a loaded baked potato without all the work...and the ribs! Best I've ever had! I've been a customer at Neil's BBQ since he opened here. I watched this business blossom into the best in town with the best food and long wait times to be able to eat (almost any time, any day of the week) and then decay into a poor excuse for a restaurant, period. The food was the best. You could hardly beat anything you ordered at Neil's. They had the best steak in town (except maybe for Abe's--it would be a toss-up). Everything was fantastic. They always had top-notch servers. The food was almost always perfect, no matter what, and always the same. Fast forward to 2-3 years ago. The prices were jacked up significantly, especially compared to other restaurants in Dyersburg. Suddenly they seemed to never be open, even when it used to be their busiest times for business, such as Sunday evenings. The last few times we've eaten there or ordered "to-go," each time the food was a little worse. My biggest complaint regarding the food is that I like my meat well done, and the past couple of years that we ordered food to go, my meat was not just a little undercooked. It was cold and bloody, even the chopped steak. Well done is NOT lying in cold blood. I wish Neil would pull his business back together and make it what it used to be. I'm not sure if his fairly new wife is running the show or what happened, but it is sad for our town. It was a great hometown restaurant with great food. It has really "gone to pot." Now, it's Monday night at 6:30 PM, and they are closed. Go figure. I doubt that Neil would be defending his business against random people's opinions/constructive criticism. The Neil that used to run the great restaurant went out of his way to make his customer's happy and make sure everything was the best. He and Mrs. Pat would take these comments and do something to make it right. My go to place every Sunday after church. You become part of the family at Neil's. Great food and always great service. As far as the price... well you get a great meal for a little bit more than a fast food chain combo. In short, I have always enjoyed eating at Neil's and would have to say my only complaint in 18 years would be a waitress brought me a empty bottle of steak sauce. Hahahaaaaaa!!! read more
