Lively and lots of great options here! A little stressful with the seat yourself situation, but after 14-20min we were able to find seating for 8. Even if you find the table space it can be hard to find chairs, everyone has theirs claimed. We were there during a couple world cup games which added to the crowd. An indoor food market/food hall by Time Out. It includes many small restaurants, it was so hard to choose! If you're like me and take too long making decisions on what to order, I recommend doing a little research on the restaurants and menus available beforehand! I did, and I feel like it helped my experience be better/more prepared. Of course, you may still find something you didn't plan to get ahead, but just looks too good to resist! I ended up ordering super classic dishes (I always try to do this) from two of the more I think pretty well-known spots. A nice food hall for people who want to eat different things. There's so many options from seafood to pizza to Asian food to Mexican food. There are to 2 bars located on both ends of the market and so much seating available. There are so many dessert places as well. Definitely something available for everyone. Not until I went to Lisbon's Time Out Market did I grow excited about my place of lodging being a mere 5-minute walk from here. I'd been to other Time Out Markets, in the US, and found them places which I had little desire to return to. Not this one, to which I returned at least 3 other times. It wasn't just the easy appeal of an amply-poured glass of great wine at an equally great price, but the whole vibe of the place, featuring the best of Portugal's best. Literally, everything looked appealing here; choosing what to eat to accompany that wine? That was my sole dilemma. One side of this place has eateries that feature really well-priced nightly specials, often selling out, which gives you an idea of their popularity. I frequently found myself in another stretch of the place, opting for a wonderfully fresh sushi platter that ran about $30US. If you do nothing more than come for food and drink you'll likely not notice that there's a really wonderful, artsy shop (A Vida Portuguesa) that features unique and beautiful gifts for yourself or others. Also, a bookstore upstairs and, during the daytime, a huge farmer's market/green-grocery in another space attached to the main hall, but easily overlooked. I highly recommend this Time Out Market, even suggesting you plan your stay to be in close proximity. That's how much I liked it. read more

Ever since it opened in 2014, the market has been a popular place for visitors. It has 26 restaurants, 8 bars, and a dozen shops. It was quite busy, but we were able to find a place to sit- communal tables. We checked out two places. The first was Miguel Castro e Silva for the bacalhau à brás. The only reason why I dropped it a star was because you see so many tiny flies flying around which makes me worry about the cleanliness. My family absolutely loved Time Out Market. We went to see the beautiful tile work at the Sao Benito train station and popped into the market since it was raining - perfect find to accommodate everyone's wishes for their last meal in Portugal! My dad and brother were able to grab some typical tripe stew at one stand, I was able to grab delicious mussels and my absolute favorite Brazilian dish - moqueca - at another stand. There were a ton of people due to the rain but we were still able to find seating altogether at the communal tables. It's very clean, there are employees cleaning the tables at all times. And how wonderful is it that you can try food from 1-star and 2-star Michelin chefs at different food stalls?! All for incredibly reasonable prices! If we had more time, I would have come back and tried several different stalls. Definitely a great option for groups of people! read more

Very very crowded! It was easy to get a seat as long as you keep an eye out. Most food stalls have some sort of lines and they'll give you a buzzer that lets you know when your food is ready. It's a pretty touristy spot with a lot of different cuisines to try. Since it's a tourist food hall, the prices here are going to be higher than restaurants outside. Plus it's food court seating, so if you don't care to do some food crawl here it's definitely more worth it to go to an actual restaurant. It's very convenient to get to by transit, and under 30 mins walk if you're coming from Chiado. It's definitely a must try at least once. It is very chaotic inside but the food options are plenty and the food quality is amazing. There are options for low table seating on cubes or high tops. This place is tough with babies thought not discouraged. It does get crowded and it's best if you go with someone who can help scout for seating as you go and get food. A bit of team work efforts are needed. There are a few bussers that are trying to go through and clean up the tables and dishes as quickly as possible but. But at peak times it does get overwhelming with the slower turnover. If you aren't STARVING and have some time (and patience)- definitely add this place to your list as a stop. Go hungry! There are so many things to try there , from pastry to sardines. My travel companion and I started with dessert, Ginginha and a pastel de nata. That became a thing for us. After perusing the gift shop, and checking out every one of the many options, we decided on the sardines. I ordered in my bad Portuguese and the purveyor chuckled and said he spoke English. So many people there did, so ordering was easy. I bought some truffle candies for friends we were staying with and my companion got to try some fresh oysters. One of the absolute eating meccas in Lisbon with a huge variety of stalls to pick and choose from. Many of those in my group opted for some of the famous pork sandwiches here and were definitely not disappointed. The shopping area was also spacious with plenty of different options to choose from. There's also nice dessert shops here to choose from in case you didn't get an egg custard or two during your trip, etc. The main issue was simply this place gets pretty crowded between the explosion of locals and tourists converging around lunch time ... and on the weekends it can get crazy. TIME OUT MARKET Time Out Market is a bustling market located along the popular waterside Cais do Sodré, with local artisans peddling handmade goods outside on the streets, and dozen of diverse food vendors offering every libation you could possibly think of inside. At around noon on a Saturday, the market was almost completely full to the brim with people, despite having hundreds of seats at long, bartop-style tables inside. The market's interior is stunning, juxtaposed with its rather stark exterior appearance of being an imposing black building. It appears to be a factory that has been carved out to house sleek wooden tables and industrial-chic architecture, with metal rafters and translucent panels letting in ample natural light from outside. The cavernous ceilings only exacerbate the sounds of hundreds of tourists milling about, so I wouldn't try having a quiet conversation here! The food options are nearly endless, ranging from American/Continental brunch fare to more typical traditional Portuguese cuisine, to even Asian BBQ-style meats! There's even cooking classes available at a station amidst the market. While there is truly something for everyone, there was practically a ten-minute line at every food stall, and prices are more expensive than you'd typically find, as this is a popular tourist destination. It took us around 10 minutes to wait in line to order, and another 15 to get our food, which was fine because it was actually quite an ordeal to find a table! We decided to eat standing up at a high-top table, since we were unable to find enough chairs for our party of five. I opted for a salad with jamon iberico (around 13 euros) from one of the more Portuguese-leaning stalls. It came with a generous amount of jamon and strawberries perched atop arugula and leafy greens - it was the perfect light post-plane meal. However, when I asked for dressing on the side, they were not able to accommodate my request, so the salad itself was quite oily. It was also supposed to come with figs, although I only received one fig in my salad! Some of my friends opted to try the classic Francesinha, a traditional Portuguese sandwich consisting of toasted bread, steak, ham, and melted cheese, topped with a ladleful of gravy (although we got takeout, so the gravy came on the side in a little cup). This was certainly quite a heavy dish, and I'd imagine it would be a good bar food, but we ultimately found it a bit too rich for our taste. Overall, Time Out Market is truly a spectacle to behold, and I would certainly venture in just for a peek - I think there's plenty of other better food spots in the area to curb your hunger cravings, but this is a unique spot for photos and sightseeing, and if there's one thing to try, it's authentic pastel de nata from Manteigaria at the edge of the market - review to be posted later! read more

We ended up with a Duck Rice Sunday special from Marlene Viera and Ramen dish from Joao Sa. Both were delish. Seems that plenty of tourists and locals come to the time out market. We ate at Monte Mar and loved the grilled squid and octopus dishes. I came here on the last day of my trip to Lisbon and arrived around 11 am. I don't know why I was expecting everything to be open, but found that most spots (even though there was staff standing up by the cashier) were still closed until 12:30 or so. While I was waiting I was lured into a few open spots that I feel were misses. The croquette kiosk is a definite skip, not much flavor and too filling. I tried Marlene Vieira's anchovies on toast which were delicious and made up for this. But the most incredible thing I ate was the sardine nigiri sushi from Sea Me.
