I am posting this meh review because of the experience that I just had trying to schedule United Handymen for another job. I emailed them more than one month before I needed handymen to show up, and asked to confirm availability three weeks in advance to paint an apartment before tenants move in. After that, I emailed several times to schedule a walkthrough and confirm availability. My emails were largely ignored. When I finally called to schedule the walkthrough -- one week before I needed them to show up -- I was led to believe that the job was on. It was only after I wrote to UH confirming the dates for the walkthrough and the job that I was told that they could not commit to either due to being booked on other projects. I fully understand that contractors get booked, but no one ever told me that they could not do the job, and I wasted three weeks when I could have been looking for another contractor. I have to paint an apartment and build a closet in four days, and I still don't have anyone hired to do it. United Handymen put me in a really bad position, and their response was to deny that they had ever confirmed the job dates. Based on my experience with Cesar, they are good handymen, but I would not hire them for any jobs where it's important to count on the contractors actually showing up for the job on the dates that you book, or where deadlines are involved.

From beginning to end of the project, we coordinated mainly through Garma, and he was very clear about the timeline. They went above and beyond by documenting issues they found during the demo of our existing shower, and were extremely mindful of our place, always using shoe covers to keep from tracking in dirt, covering our belongings and keeping us updated on their progress. And they stuck to the timeline they had projected! We recommend them without reservation and will be using them for our projects in the future!

His estimate was reasonable for the amount of work to be done and very competitive with estimates I had already received from five other contractors. Andrew and his assistant Matt took about two days to transform my kitchen into something really sharp. Andrew was very thorough and even took care of some odds and ends that were left by the builder (and previous contractor who installed the counter top). Also, Andrew was very neat - he covered the counter top to avoid any damage or stains and swept the floor after both days of working. After they left, you would never know that two people were sawing tiles and working with grout and tile adhesive all day. I wouldn't hesitate to book Andrew for any other jobs I need done around the apartment. It was a five-star experience from start to finish and I'm glad I found the Handy Andy Squad.

I had Brooks Plumbing and Heating come to my home after another company caused a major plumbing…read moreissue, and I cannot say enough good things about Adam. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of during an extremely stressful situation. Adam arrived on Friday within hours of the previous plumber leaving my home in worse condition than before. He immediately understood the scope of the job and how messy it could become. He explained that he could do the work right then, but it would be better to clear the area and have him return the next day so the job could be done properly. I really appreciated that he wasn't just trying to rush through another appointment. We prepped the area that evening, and he came back the following day as promised. He worked carefully and systematically to avoid making a mess, resolved the clog, and recommended a product to help break down the sludge in our old pipes. I purchased it and followed his instructions to run plenty of hot water. Unfortunately, when I did that, water began dripping from my kitchen ceiling. It turned out the first plumber had damaged the drain pipe with their snake, creating an even bigger problem. I broke open part of the ceiling and contacted my insurance company, who reached out to Adam again. He called me within minutes to assess the situation and scheduled a return visit for Monday morning. Even though he does not work on Sundays, he still communicated with me that day as I opened more of the ceiling to locate the leak. Adam arrived first thing Monday morning with another plumber, Steve. They cut out the damaged section of pipe and repaired the leak quickly and professionally. I am incredibly grateful for how responsive, thorough, and considerate Adam was throughout this entire ordeal. He truly made a very stressful situation more manageable. I highly recommend Adam at Brooks Plumbing and Heating. His professionalism, communication, and genuine care for his customers set him apart.

Adam and Steven came out in early April 2026 to fix a large pipe that had burst in my basement next…read moreto the furnace. The pipe leaked every time I washed the dishes. It was the main pipe that led to the street. Two other "professional" plumbers came out who I shall not name. The first one from Edison came out and stated that he did not have the proper equipment to fix the pipe. I could tell immediately that he did not want to do the job anyway. The second plumber from Hackensack sent someone to look at what needed to be done. He seemed promising, but that eventually led nowhere. I was promised a call back by him the following week. I never received a call back and when I did call the company and leave messages, those messages were never returned. I'm not begging anyone to do anything for me when there are many other qualified plumbers. I was truly disgusted with both of these "supposed to be professional" plumbing companies. Adam was contacted and responded immediately. He came to my house with Steven on a Saturday to look over everything and then came back on Monday to complete the job. It took a few hours to complete such a heavy job and the cleanup provided was spectacular. Both Adam and Steven were very professional and personable. We even had quite a few good laughs. If I ever have any plumbing problems again, Brooks Plumbing and Heating (Bloomfield, NJ) will be the first team called. I just referred them to a friend of mine a few minutes ago.
