Bartenders where extremely efficient. Drinks made to regulation almost to the ounce. Atmosphere was exceptional. Cleanliness was very good. Very few bars I can audit as a secret customer pass at this level of service. I would highly recommend this establishment. 0 code violations is a rarity. Passed with flying colors. Came here for the first time as part of an MSU nostalgia trip with some fellow MSU alumni. We were excited to check out a bar that opened after we all graduated and were very underwhelmed. Other than the dart boards in the back, which I don't think you can find anywhere else except Peanut Barrel down the street, Tin Can was grimey and underwhelming. They have a fairly extensive selection of canned beer and cocktails (nothing is on draft), but it just didn't have the vibes similar EL establishments have. Looking back to when I was a student, maybe this is a place I would end up for a chill night. However, I still feel some other bars offer a similar, but better experience. read more

The server (didn't have his name but receipt said bar T and he had glasses and around 5'8") was really rude and threw our papers at us. When I asked him for them he was really condescending and to me and my friends who ordered drinks from him later. I came here before partaking in a Thirsty Thursday with the Lansing Lugnuts. The Tin Can is a great little bar that feels crammed even if it's not busy. Right behind the bar there are fridges chock-full of canned beer. Strohs, PBR, Natural Light, Budweiser, Miller...you name it, they'll pretty much have it in a can. Cheap too. I know they had some unique cans of beer as well. Right next to the fridge are a bunch of munchies in the salty and delicious variety. Definitely a cool spot to hang out at and pre-drink before going out on the town or Lugnuts game. I wouldn't consider this place a dive bar yet though. Jon T. hit it on the head, once the regulars scuff off the place a bit, it will be a dive bar in no time. And I'm thinking after a few more Thirsty Thursday Lugnut games it's shine will be dull in no time. And that's a good thing. read more

We stumbled across this hole in the wall style bar while on a recent trip to Lansing. It has a great location near the Capitol and the Lansing Lugnut's stadium. If you are looking for quiet ambiance and high class drinking this is not the place for you. If you want to experience a cool college/blue collar type bar make certain you swing in here. They do have an outdoor seating area that overlooks the river and there are multiple other bars that share a hallway so you can barhop as well. The staff here was very helpful and friendly and the service was fast. They explained their options for drinks and their huge selection of bottles and cans of beer. Make sure you try a fago-bomb they're delicious. If you want to experience some night life in Lansing and are into the college age crowd this will be a great place for you. It is within staggering distance to Omar's and many other local bars/restaurants and hotels. Parking is mostly on street so that might be challenging on a busy night after a Lugnut's game. I will certainly return to to Tin Can to have a drink and chill. read more

Don't be scared away by the fact that they don't have beers on tap. They have an awesome selection of canned beers, pudding shots, and a menu of drinks made with Faygo and Pinnacle vodka. Yum!! Its a cute little place. They have no taps, but what they do have is a dizzying array of beers in cans. They have no real kitchen, but they do serve up hot dogs and dips if you get peckish. Two dart boards and some board games make up the bulk of the entertainment, and one wall is lined in chalkboards for your graffiti pleasure. I agree with another reviewer in that this newcomer is a wannabe dive bar, with a high risk of attracting hipsters, but I love it all the same. Its cramped, it gets loud, and they don't even have taps! But they do stock all known flavors of Faygo and a ton of different vodkas, so you can make your own Faygo bomb. I liked the Tin Can before my recent New Years experience there (same goes for Taps and Dukes). A woman was sick in the restroom and a male bouncer came in, kicked in the stall door, and proceeded to drag her off the toilet at which point she stumbled and fell on the floor (with her pants down). Are you kidding me?! A lady in line had to push the bouncer off the woman. I should have called the police but was in complete shock. That and coat check would not give people back there coats in 0 degree weather. Disgusted by the staff at all three establishments. read more

Ok. This is about one o the funniest places I've been to in town. Love the hole in the wall atmosphere. It's a dive but in a good way. Love the beer tour concept. It's the first time I've seen that. This was our first bachelor party stop. Stepping in it looks like a small space but walking back it's a labyrinth connected to another bar and club. This is a quick standing room only place to get drunk quick, to sum it all up. It's extremely casual - most people sport college sweatshirts and jeans. The music is so, so good but there isn't any dancing inside. I think you'd get your ass beat if you were caught dancing inside, actually... the summer patio, on the other hand, is the place to be! Still a pretty casual atmosphere, but plenty of dancing on the right nights. I've seen some rowdiness in the crowd here, but it's certainly more kosher than other downtown bars as of late. You can also step outside to the patio for fresh air and/or dancing when the weather is good. They specialize in canned beer and Faygo Bombs, and their prices are reasonable. Beyond disappointed! Having a great night bar hopping until we came here. First night out on the town from California and the bartender was beyond rude. She completely insulted my group of people by stating we took her tip which we would never do. We have plenty of money and don't need her lousy few dollars. And for her to not want to listen to anyone who was around us not part of our group was not good customer service at all. Besides the twenties in our pockets we had the $13 from the change from the one drink we bought. As the Designated Driver I was completely coherent was treated like a drunken fool. So I took another swing at the tin can. Again went to the west location on Saginaw highway. On 8/4/19 at 3:30 I brought 11 friends to the joint. There was about 6 other patrons. I mention this because 11 people is a lot, especially if you're busy. They were not. There was a bartender, cook and a guy who would walk around the bar but not help the staff. We had to go to the bar to order so the drinks were fine. We all ordered food. Mostly $1.00 tacos. Deep fryer was broken. 3 tacos came out at a time about 20+ minutes apart for the next hour and 10 minutes. I swear this is accurate. Burger landed at 1:20. I think there was about 15 to 17 tacos ordered. How could this possibly take this long?? No one else was eating. No explanation to the long wait or just true nonsense of the scene. We agree the tacos were worth a dollar. Just don't know what's really going on with this management. The bartender obviously did not want to be there but at least took orders. I think this is enough of this place. My only motivation is the owner knows what's going on in this business. It's a great concept but extremely miss managed. read more

This is probably one of the saddest, most embarrassing, and most bitter experiences I've had going out. Due to a small tear in the lining of my driver's license, a bartender took my ID card to the back of the bar after getting an order from me and my friends. Initially, I assumed the bartender forgot to give me my card back and went to prepare our order while having my card in his hand. I noticed that my friends got their cards back but I did not. The bartender came back and said my ID was fake and asked if I wanted to call the police. I initially said 'no' because I knew my ID was real and that I didn't think it was necessary. I wasn't given my ID back and was asked to leave. Knowing my ID was real and feeling like a criminal at this point, I told him to call the police. After the police arrived, I was asked to step outside and get my ID verified--which it was. The police explained that, since we're in a heavily populated college student area, fakes are everywhere. Totally understandable! I proceeded to ask a couple of follow-up questions--most of which were aimed at what the bar's verification process looked like. The officer responded saying that the bartender likely saw the small rip on my ID card and proceeded to want to call the police. I was not given any additional information as to what the verification process looked like, but I don't believe a plain sight issue should be enough reason to directly state that an ID is fake. After the police verified to the bartender that my ID was real, the bartender shared that, because of this experience, I was able to get a free drink. I declined it because I don't believe a free drink makes up for the embarrassment that comes from this experience and proceeded to leave with my friends. I also asked the bartender if they had more of a verification process towards identifying fake IDs, but wasn't given more information other than that they see fakes all the time since they're on a college campus. While that's understandable, a plain sight 'hunch' shouldn't be enough to boldly state that an ID is fake and that I should have to leave the place of business. Since my current position deals with people and customer service, I understand the protectiveness and better-safe-than-sorry mentality that this bartender took with my situation, but this is an example of why it's better to have more measures in place before resorting to call the police to verify a real ID. Overall, I'm just embarrassed this had to happen and wish there was more that could be done at the place of establishment before authorities are even made an option. read more

While your bartender was apologetic and made an honest mistake, the bar was certainly severely understaffed for a Saturday afternoon (one bartender?!!). You require an ID as deposit for your cheap darts. No less than 5 minutes after giving your bartender my ID did he give it to a patron by mistake. I now have no ID and an apology. I absolutely expect you to make this right, as a visit to your bar has cost me the replacement of my driver's license. I would contact you directly, but your website has no email address. How do you describe a place that carries pbr, pbr tallboys, natty light, strohs and all the usual suspects, in a can...and only a can? I call it comfy and filled with real people looking to have a good time. If the regulars can just scuff it up a bit and take some of the new shine off the place, it will feel a bit more like a dive bar as advertised. Went there for new years. The people are slow at getting to the tablw, so it's better to sir at the bar. The had delicious superman pudding shots. The mint chocolate chip wasn't that bad, but not my favorite. Had a great time there. We're going to start going more often. :) read more
