Started going to TB as a somewhat newbie. The first "plus" was that I didn't have to become a member for the rare occasion that I may want to stop in for a cigar. TB simply requires that smokers make a purchase in order to use the lounge. Second "plus," you really couldn't find a nicer group of people. Lots of regulars here. Plenty of space, TVs, bar, all the usual but what seems a much more casual atmosphere than some other places. I walked into the Tinder Box with literally ZERO knowledge about cigars, but was looking for a wedding gift. The staff gathered the details of the gift intention and broke down all the considerations from mildness to country of origin and how to trim the cigar for use and how to enjoy. I ended up buying six individual El Rey Del Mundo cigars that they encased in a separate cigar box and loaded it with matchboxes and included the cap cutter. This is my home cigar lounge and supplier. I have been coming here most of my adult cigar smoking life. I truly enjoy the family atmosphere they have provided me. I've bought everything from humidors to tobacco pipes to your common cheap accessories here. They've always been beyond helpful in every way. I always like that there is a congregation of regulars in the back room talking or watching hockey on the television. The back part of the store has about eight nice leather chairs - you sit with cigars surrounding you on all four walls. The selection is vast, the customer-service nice (in a gentlemanly way, of course), and the atmosphere is as a cigar lounge should be. Spent $50 on their most expensive Padron. It smoked like a $3 cigar- absolutely terrible, when I told the person who helped me purchase it he shrugged his shoulders and blamed the high price on tax. Instead of refunding my purchase and helping me pick something that would smoke decently not like an ashtray of grey flavor. Padron has lowered the bar but continues to sell at premium prices. Total shit. I left it after 1/4 of the way smoked. read more

My husband loves to come in on occation to enjoy a cigar or a pipe. We have a small collection of pipes and have bought several of them here. They have a pretty good selection of pipe tabacco and a very large selection of cigars. There is a nice little lounge in the back with a TV and comfortable selection of chairs to sit, relax and enjoy a tabacco product with a drink. It is great, now that we live down the street, to come and have a cigar a few times a year and wonder the store. They have a very nice collection of humidors up front and even sell cigarettes and cloves. I really love the smell of the place, earthy and sweet. I usually preface my reviews of cigar shops/ lounges with a exposé regarding heritage, calmness, and urbanity. The tinder box encompasses all of those aspects of the craft that is cigar making and smoking; yet they do so without being brazen. Their ancestry to cigars is not overt; their awards and family photos are tucked away in the back hallway, rather than showed-off in the front of the shop. The tinder box does not boast or brag, or attempt to impress. Their inventory, hospitality and knowledge speaks for itself. The selection is VERY plentiful and houses a variety across the spectrum of cost, flavor, and strength. Prices are competitive. But their location draws in a clientele that can afford paying $11-18 for moderate-end cigars. The lounge is innovative, considering the fact that they are in a busy plaza on transit that probably costs a lot of overhead. The space is narrow and deep. It's not cramped, but it's not spacious. If at full capacity, you're essentially sitting side by side a bunch of grown men, like waiting in an airport terminal. There's complimentary coffee and water. Yet seconds cost and additional $1 (which I honestly feel is unnecessary), other places in the area have snacks and unlimited drinks. Overall, I like it and would go if you're in the area. Buffalo cigars is opening a new location downtown on Main Street which I would check out in addition to their Orchard Park location. read more

Huh? Am I really the first person to review Tinder Box? People, life is too short to deny yourself the pleasure of a fine cigar. You can't take the money with you to Heaven, and if you're fortunate enough to live in the area off of Transit Road where Tinder Box is located, when you pass on the Federales are going to yank a good chunk of your millions anyway. Step it up!!! Tinder Box is located in a small storefront in the Lowe's Plaza close to Maple Road. It is a chain shop, yes, okay, I know that, but they are fully stocked with humidors, lighters, cutters and other accessories in addition to the cigars. Oh, and they possess a very good selection of sticks. Rocky Patel, Padron, Ashton, Arturo Fuente, CAO, Romeo y Julieta, so on and so forth. Of course, when I sought out my Rocky Patel 1961s they were all out!! Oh well. Life's tough - wear a helmet. The staff is very accommodating. It doesn't have to be an intimidating experience to roll in and see all of the choices. You will receive friendly advice and help when selecting your smoke. Inside you will also find a bunch of chairs and a television, so you can sit down and enjoy your cigar while pretending to be away looking for something at Lowe's. BONUS. I saw a handful of gentlemen in the shop doing exactly that. Yeah, definitely, if you are on Transit for some reason and feel like enjoying one of the best things life has to offer then stop at Tinder Box. It's one of the better shops around. read more

I'll join you in reviewing this place, happily, Jason! I'm surprised there aren't more reviews here, as I know many people who enjoy a good cigar from here. I came here for the first time, in late 90's for a celebratory party for RealAmherst.com, back when blogging was new and exciting. We sat in the back and I just thought it was cool people could come and enjoy a smoke here. The staff is extremely helpful, knowledgable and they really know their customers and what they like. My husband was frequenting this place for a while, and would quite often send me to fetch him a cigar to enjoy after a long stint at the restaurant he manages. (What is this 1950?!) I rather enjoyed doing that favor for him especially since I'd spend more time chatting with the fellas there than it took for them to grab his Gloria Cubana or Romeo and Juliet. I'd never remember what cigar Michael would want, but these guys always knew exactly which kind. I think their prices are reasonable and they have a selection of "factory throwaways" for those who are not too choosy, for only a couple bucks a piece. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, I always feel like I'm walking into someone's living room. As a regular, I've also enjoyed perks like an occasional free lighter or extra couple cigars, just because. I'm all about personal relationships with businesses, and I feel like I'm part of their family. They'll have special events with trays if food, and I've always been invited to grab a bite to eat! Anyways, Michael gave up cigars recently (yay lungs! Boo trips to tinder box!) but definitely recommend smokers to go here and will go back gladly, anytime. This is one of those truly epic smoke shops, I love the atmosphere here. The employee's make you feel welcome and know their stuff when it comes to helping you choose the right tobacco product. Now I'm an occasional pipe smoker (again), and love a good cigar, and I love the fact that I can purchase a decent cigar in the range of 5 (for the discontinued stock) to 9 dollars or purchase an ounce of really good pipe tobacco for very little. They do have a large selection of pipe tobacco's to choose from all are moist and aromatic. The chairs here are comfortable and you can purchase drinks on site. Full disclosure: I am not a cigar smoker nor a fan of any kind of smoking. BUT a loved one is so in I went. It was evening and in the lounge area at the back of the store were several men in comfy chairs, smoking cigars and visiting, chatting about whatever manly men do in a cigar shop. I stopped in for a humidor (which I know nothing about) and one of the associates came up to assist. After a bit I selected a humidor, but noticed it had a blemish, and it was the last one. I then chose my second choice, still a nice humidor (I'm told) and in cashing out, I was given 10% off as a goodwill gesture. I'm so glad I shopped local, it would have been so easy to go online for the purchase, but I did want to see it and learn a little about the product. The gentlemen continued to enjoy their cigars and it reminded me of the yarn shop social circle with ladies congregating in a knitting circle, or Steel Magnolias at the beauty parlor. Only difference is the knitters don't have to go home and do a double hair wash because they smell like smoke! read more

This is my favorite cigar shop in Buffalo. Amazing selection of well-kept cigars along with an extremely knowledgeable staff. There is a great crew of guys that hang out here at night that welcomed me to the shop like I was a 10-year friend. The last two times I've been to Tinderbox, two different employees who were cashing me out repeatedly touched the head of my cigars as they were scanning them and placing them in the bag. I thought this reflected a lack of cigar etiquette. The top of the cigar is what goes in the mouth, and I don't appreciate another person's hands/fingers to be all over that part. I was having some work done on my vehicle and walked down the street to go here because it's somewhere I've always wanted to check out. Not my first time in a Tinder Box, but my first time in this one. They have a very very good selection of cigars, pipe tobacco and pipes and of course cigarettes like Dunhill and Sherman's. I had gone in there to buy a pack of Dunhill's, but after looking around I decided since I had some time I would pick out a cigar. After looking at offers from Punch, Upmann, Montecristo, Cohiba & other manufacturers, I chose a Macanudo Court. The cigar was very fresh and aromatic. I sat down in one of the leather chairs and listened to and talked with the few others in the seating area. Unfortunately my vehicle was ready sooner than I expected, and I had to get to a meeting so my visit was cut short. The price selection was very good, no matter what you want to spend, you won't be disappointed in the selection offered. There were no cigar snobs here either, which is a huge plus, and the staff is very helpful and doesn't talk down to you, like they do at other cigar lounges. By all means, give them a try, if you've got a question, ask them. They'll be very helpful. Two thumbs up Tinder Box, you really have created a great place. read more

This place rocks a good group of guys to smoke cigars with. The owner was great he had lot of stories to tell about cigars. The night crew well let's just say those guys no how to live and smoke a good cigar. The one guy who offered me a drink from his homemade stash who by the way carries a gun he had me cracking up. I am from Toronto canada... Coming down to buffalo I had no clue where to find cigars or a nice cigar store around. (Other then what they offer at duty free.)I checked up on yelp and found this diamond in the ruff!! I had an excellent experience here and will definitely return on my next venture to buffalo.
