But I was always there during the weekday around lunchtime or early on a Saturday when there weren't any screenings at the Theatre. The building was actually built as a Grange hall in 1905. Where they showed Movies in the upstairs section. In 1927 wad known as the Millerton theatre There's a very nice lounge with a café and art gallery upstairs It was converted into four screens. Screen one has 154 seats. Screen two has 142 seats screen three has 136 seats and the screening room has 38 seats. When you walk in the front doors, the concession stand is up in front of you. To the left and right our poster cases with current movies on the left side and classic films on the right side The young lady behind the concession stand. Was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a large popcorn and green iced tea. I was coming for a screening of the movie Network . On September 24. That exact date is mentioned in the movie. I went up the very staircase steps to the second floor, where the movie was playing in theater 3. There is an elevator so you don't have to navigate those steep steps going up or down The lounge area was very nice looking, retro. I looked into the little screening room across from the bar down a little hallway. It had a pretty good size screen and comfortable seat seats. I picked a seat in the middle section of the theater. Which has a nice ambience. The screen is a very good size as well. The projection of crisp and clear. Very good sound system as well. I'm a big supporter of these independent historic downtown theaters. The look and feel of this theater was different from other theaters. like the Orpheum theater in Saugerties or Upstate Films/Rhinebeck/Saugerties . I would say it felt more luxurious. The café area had a couch that looks like it came from the 1950s One can buy a membership to support the Theatre. As it's a nonprofit Theatre now. This Theatre is a GEM in the downtown of Millerton. They have special screenings like network. As well as when the director of an independent film will come on a Saturday afternoon to do a question and answer session. Stop at one of the restaurants in town before or after a movie. The Moviehouse will definitely be a destination that I will be going back to several times a year.

Sure, some of the seating isn't plush but there's couch type seating and if you're a movie lover who focuses on more than your hiney, there's plenty to love. Don't just go, join and support this treasure of an institution. My only gripe, which may not be real, is that someone told me there was a swing dance event here and I didn't hear about it.

They have an extensive number and wide range of books, including art books, most in very good or better condition. The organization is largely by subject (and even then, assignment to a particular subject area seems somewhat whimsical), but within categories, they are not well sorted - so it does take some time to browse. Pricing is a very modest flat fee, given the condition and rarity of some titles (currently $4 per hardcover, $3 per paperback). Thus it's possible to find many titles, including first editions, well under typical pricing found elsewhere. The staff people are really nice. When bagging up my purchase, one of the larger tomes ripped the paper bag slightly, so the staff person got some gaffer's tape to repair the bad and prevent it from continuing to rip apart. After the show we wandered around trying different rows and seats. IMHO there are zero seats with good sight lines. It's odd and we were very surprised. Was it designed this way? Yes and no. When a theatre orders new seats they tell the manufacturer how many seats they need in the hall, sometimes how many seats per row. Either way the seat manufacturer figures out what assortment of chair widths will work. Yes, that's right. All chairs in a row may not be the same size. If you've ever said "hmm I thought these chairs were wider" you got one of the small chairs. This is part of why people buy subscriptions - year to year they keep the same seat, one that isn't small. Sadly as much as I loved visiting Ulster I will not go back to see a show at this venue. NOTE: The UPAC website has outdated recommendations for restaurants. Several restaurants had closed permanently or were not open for dinner. Definitely need to call yourself and confirm hours and availability for the evening you intend to be there.

Growing up in or in the suburbs of large cities have spoiled me in terms of massive movie theaters…read morewith 70 screens and 200 rows of stadium seating (well, that may be a little bit of an exaggeration). But, that has made me forget that smaller theaters are out there like this one. So when I came here to see Inside Out with my boyfriend's family, I was pleasantly surprised and reminded of why sometimes bigger isn't always better. First and foremost, this is a very small theater. From what I could tell, there was one screen and only a handful of rows in the small screening room. That being said, the theater looked like it was recently renovated, it was very clean, and there was plenty of legroom. The screen itself is pretty small but since the space is smaller, you are sitting closer which partially makes up for it. The audio in the theater was surprisingly good however, far exceeding many other small theaters I have visited in the past. All in all, the movie experience was pretty good. We saw Inside Out in 3D which probably would have benefited from a larger screen, but I'm not expecting an IMAX theater to be open in Hunter. One change from large city theaters that I really did enjoy was how comparatively cheap tickets were here. An adult ticket runs only $9 while 3D is $11. That kicks butt compared to the $15-$17 I've paid before for non-3D around in the Washington DC area. That plus the fact that the movie selection was surprisingly decent only added to the pleasant surprise factor. Major films like Terminator and Jurassic World were also playing. The concessions were also pretty good - popcorn, candy, ice cream, etc. but also equally cheaper than I'm used to. Overall, I had a great experience.

Although this year (2015) was only its third, the nascent festival surpassed all expectations. I am a huge country music fan (Tennessee born and bred) and went this year for the first time, along with my husband and 24 yo niece. We rented an RV (another first) and drove from Maryland to Hunter Mountain, NY. From the word go, the entire experience was amazing. We purchased Outlaw VIP tix with Premium RV camping, which allowed us to stay on site in our RV. The Outlaw tix gave us front row access to the stage for all shows, access to the VIP tents, etc. My husband and I made some amazing friends while hanging out in the VIP tents and will be meeting up with them again at the festival next year. Our niece loved the front row access to the concerts, but also liked that she could escape the sun, grab some food and drinks in the tents, and watch the show with us every so often. The food vendors were great, especially those from local businesses. Festival staff were amazing. HUGE kudos to those that produce this festival. Specifically, I would like to thank Steve, Paul, Kaitie, Pam, Jess and all the others such as the VIP tent servers (tent 2) that made this experience absolutely fabulous. We even purchased our tickets for next year before we left. In talking with my husband, we agree that this festival/trip rates as one of our all-time top vacations, which says it all considering we have traveled the globe extensively. The relaxed atmosphere, great music, good food, and super service resulted in a truly stress-free escape that we really needed. I have only one suggestion for next year: availability of water bottles and soda bottles in the VIP tents all three days would be super. They were available on the third day, which was great, and would love that availability throughout the festival.
