I'm sorry to have not caught the owners name but he does STELLAR work and is super friendly. I brought in two pairs of shoes where the glue holding the sole had expired and were now "flip flops"! Even though only one shoe in each pair was sole-less, I brought both companions in. He stated this was the right thing to do as if one shoe expired the other is on the way. He removed all of the soles, re-glued them, and gave them a fresh wax. They look GREAT! You might think that $110 for four shoes is expensive but these shoes had plenty of life still left in them and I strive to repair than discard. And... Went in to get a new pair of loafers fitted with a protective sole so I would stop slipping and sliding around while walking. The conversation with the guy behind the counter (owner?) was quick and easy, no frills or extra small talk, which is great cuz I have social anxiety, lol. Took exactly the estimated two weeks. I was very impressed with how clean the work looked (super flush! no signs that any work had been done minus the presence of the new protective sole). I came by to get my Dr Marten leather boots stretched out. I was really concerned that the process would damage the shoes but I was re-assured that it would not and I could pick them within a couple days. I ended up going a week later and I can confirm the shoes were in the same condition with no damage from the process. In terms of the results, I do feel some difference(?) but not as much as I would have expected. I plan to just wear them out and naturally expand them. The owner was really kind though and even offered to bring them back for any free mods if the shoes weren't fitting properly. I paid $27 for the service. read more

The soles on my dress shoes were starting to separate pretty badly, so I was on the lookout cobbler get them fixed. After a little searching, I came across Tip & Top. I came in, let Mr. Kim know what was going on, and he immediately knew what he had to do. He gave me a ticket (don't lose this!) and told me to come back in a week. Fast forward a week and I return to the shop. The soles were re-glued and nailed down (originally they were just glued), and they were all shined up and looking great. The final cost for everything was $45. I would gladly pay for this quality of work being done, and it definitely beats having to get a new pair of shoes. I debated with myself between a 4 star and 5 star review ONLY because I wasn't sure if the price I paid was a good value or not. At the end of the day I was completely happy with my boots and so I gave T&T a 5! I have an old pair of forgotten Timberland boots that have sat in storage for a few years. Since they're a red pair, I only used them for 49er games and I planned to wear them to the Indianapolis Colts game during the atmospheric river/bomb cyclone event but when I put them on the outer soles just crumbled! I looked up shoe repair and Tip & Top was the nearest to me so I checked yelp and decided on taking my boots there. As I spoke to the gentleman he told me he had a plan in mind to repair/replace the soles but it was no guarantee that they'd be like a new pair of Tims. He also told me that I'd need to pay in full now and the cost was $125. I agreed because I figured that I couldn't find this pair again and for sure not for less than $125. He gave me a 2 week timeline and when I went to pick them up I was impressed! The soles looked like factory items and he even gave the boots a good cleaning. What the heck, Yelp? Where are these 5 star reviews coming from? The tips of my heels were getting worn (you know, the small plastic piece on the bottom of the stiletto) so I wanted to replace them before they got too worn (I didn't want to damage my shoe) and saw the glowing reviews on Yelp so decided to go here. I will never forgive you people. I took in 3 heels. The guy behind the counter was very terse, directing me to take the shoes out of the bag and show them to him, then telling me to put the shoes back into the bag and to hand him the bag (he never touched my shoes in my presence). I did so, and he advised me that it'd cost me $15 each ($45 total) to replace the tips and that it'd be ready in a week. That seemed a little pricey but, then again, the last time I had shoes serviced, I was in San Antonio so I figured that this just must be San Francisco prices and went with it. I returned 2 weeks later (I was out of town and couldn't get it sooner). The guy was terse and not very friendly again. He handed me my shoes thrown into the same brown paper bag that I brought them to him in. I took them out and was very disappointed. Most places polish up your shoe a little to get rid of the scruffs or do something extra but this place just replaced the tip and did nothing else. In addition to that, all my shoes were smashed. I don't know whether he placed heavy items on top of them while they were in the bag or what but they were smashed and didn't have the retained shape that they usually had. I asked why they were smashed. He said "They're shoes! Just put them on your feet and they'll stretch back out again!" I didn't know what to do at that point. So I just took them as is. Once I got home, I examined them further and noticed that they weren't only smashed but damaged. I think they must use some type of instrument to hold the shoe when working on it that rubs against the side (where you put your feet in) because I noticed small tears or wearing near the same location of each shoe (Note that my black shoes had the worst tears, my red shoes had only slight damage, and the damage to my nude shoes was very light but there). I also noticed an indentation in one of the stilettos where I expect they must have damaged while pulling the old tips off. I placed pictures up so you can see the damage. With the level of service that I got and the damage done to my shoes, I don't know how this place stays in business. read more

I quickly took those pairs of shoes back once I noticed the bill was for $22 and not $24--a mere $2 difference in cost for the 5 to 3 star difference was a no brainer. But after the last time when I brought in a beloved pair of vintage boots (from I Magnin, so they are special to me) to have them stretched a bit he did that for me, but when I picked them up I saw that the heels were disintegrating. Why he did not point this out to me both when I dropped them off and picked them up is beyond me. When I picked up the boots and paid, then looked at the heels he sort of gave me a wicked snide grin. Found my new go-to shoe repair place. Great work, reasonably timely (and pleasant and honest) service, fair prices. Brought a few pairs of Louboutins here to get them re-heeled and have rubber soles put on. They did a great job and made one pair look almost brand new (that pair was NOT in good shape when I brought it in...). They also inserted padding underneath the insole of a pair that had stretched out with wear and was a tad too big--perfect fix. In short, can't recommend Tip Top highly enough and will continue to bring all my shoes here from now on. read more

My new (barely two months old) Prada shoes had their soles torn. I was looking for some place through Yelp! to find someone to stick them back and this was already frightening (what if glue be visible after?). This place was the only one in the city with that much of reviews and 1* ones were only about price and rudeness, which I could perfectly deal with, not a single "i should've checked reviews first" like in many others. When I came there, I was told I need to have an extra layer in my soles to be _sewed_ in otherwise it will continue breaking. So I agreed. And never regretted. It was made so neatly I couldn't see a stitch. I also found the price more than reasonable ($45 for sewing something it and then sticking soles back). I went to this shoe shop in late Dec 2017 because it had relatively good reviews on Yelp. I was surprised at how pricey it was, but based on the good reviews I figured it was worth it especially since I really liked the boots I was dropping off. It hasn't been a year since I fixed the 2 pairs of boots and they are falling apart! I think he did more damage to my boots than good! I'm now concerned that the damaged cause it so bad other shops might not want to fix them and I'm definitely not going back to this shop. I tend to give places the benefit of the doubt, but when I'm having the same issue on both of the pairs of boots I took in, then it's hard not to say that there is definitely a quality issue. read more

When I got a terrible stain on my BRAND-NEW leather bag, I was so, so sad. It seemed like an un-get-out-able stain, and the bag is a really unusual color that I thought would never quite be the same even if the stain could somehow be removed. But somebody recommended Tip & Top to me, and now happy days are here again! When I dropped the bag off, they told me they would have to re-dye the entire thing, which would be fairly expensive, and although they would do their best to match the color, there was no guarantee it would be exactly the same. Still worth it to me since the bag was new and I loved it. When I picked it up, the stain was gone and the color was perfect! What's more, they told me that they'd experimented a bit and found a way to dye just the area of the stain, so the price was HALF what I'd been quoted. The manufacture had basically said I could order the part from Amazon which would have taken a week to receive. First visit, and Chung saved our beloved Oreck vacuum cleaner...it was in need of repair, & we hoped that could be done affordably so we wouldn't need to throw it out & purchase a new one (to the tune of $300-$400). I've never gotten a vacuum repaired here, but judging from the number Mr. Tip-Top does on my shoes, there's magic in them thar fingers that will make your vac purr like a kitty. He has resurrected my beloved boots two times in 8 years, recapped countless hoochie heels hopelessly ground into imitation cigarette-butts, and once stretched these faux Campers I bought in defiance of my size 9+ feet made annoyingly "+" by my stupid greedy big toes. I even bring him brand new shoes for preemptive protection. Mr. Tip-Top is a delightful, strapping, stubble-cheeked, late 30's, Korean-American man, partial to leather aprons. Just when you think he has run out of tricks, he lets drop one day that he can also cobble together (in the original, non-pejorative sense of the phrase) whatever shoes you manage to dream up.
