My favorite pair of boots was starting to show obvious signs of wear and tear and unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the manufacturer makes these anymore. I was hoping to get a little more use out of them before having to scrap them and brought them to The Cobbler to see what they could do. They offered me a couple of options - one was just to repaint and touch up so it looked a bit cleaner, the other was to also resole to also get more life out of the shoe. I was able to go with the option that best suited my needs and my shoes were ready to go at the scheduled pickup time a week later. They will also give you a text when the items are ready. I am so happy that I found Jay and his wife. We used to go to our local cobbler in San Jose but the quality was just not good. I found Jay on an online Luxury forum. He came highly recommended. I first came to Jay to repair and replace a button snap on our LV Damier Azure Wallet and Zipper on an LV Sarah Wallet. They were done fairly fast. The next work done was a project LV Sac Souple that had damaged handles. I wanted to use the duffle for my DJ cables, headphones and accessories. Overkill but I wanted to go to gigs in style! I asked him to add some d-rings so I could add a strap. The project turned out perfect. The straps look perfect and he was able to condition and tone the vachetta to match. They altered the suit my husband wore for our wedding and helped detail our shoes we each wore on our wedding day. For the record, I am an avid Fluevog user. I have A LOT of Fluevogs (you don't need to know exact numbers) that I've been collecting since 2010. The pandemic took a toll on my Fluevog habits and until recently, they've been wasting away in my closet. I've been slowly getting back into the Flue-groove when I realized a number of pairs needed some TLC. Nothing major. The glue on some of the heels just got old and my heels were falling off. I've heard lots of good things about The Cobbler and since they're local, I thought I'd give it a shot. I just picked up three pairs and the workmanship is impeccable! They replaced the outer soles and heels on two pairs of boots and did a heel replacement (I provided the heels) on a third pair. The couple is super nice and I love the attention to detail. For the heel replacement, they nailed and glued the new pieces to keep it secure. I typically buy my Fluevogs at the Haight and I've been to the cobbler they recommend. Sadly, after two trips to their SF-based cobbler, The Huz and I found ourselves looking for better options. (The heel work we had done ended up falling off and we had to glue it back ourselves.) I'm so happy to share that we now have a reliable cobbler that's close to our home in San Mateo. Yay ! I brought a leather belt and asked Jay to punch two extra holes for a tighter fit, but Jay cleverly suggested that he shorten the belt from the buckle side of the belt so that the existing holes remain but the belt sizing is adjusted to be shorter. In less than 15 minutes did a beautiful job on the spot and you would never know the belt was modified. Very reasonable price for his service. Highly recommend! read more

Jay is a real craftsman. He did a wonderful job doing a full JR leather resole with combo heels and Triumph toe plates. My worn out Allen Edmond Plymouths are BETTER than a new pair fresh out of the box. I am super-picky about the details, so I appreciate the quality of the stitching, sanding, and even how he carefully cut out the toe leather to perfectly fit the toe plates flush for an OEM look. It takes time, skill and patience to do these jobs well, so I'm very glad to find a local cobbler I can trust w/o having to go through the time and expense of mailing my shoes away for recrafting. You can't do better on the Peninsula. @Jay: I hope you don't mind that I grabbed your photo off Facebook for this review! I forgot to take a picture myself before I put them on. I have had a green embossed leather satchel that gets fuller each time I travel and I asked my regular cobbler if he could sew a couple of D-rings for me to attach a shoulder strap. He and other cobblers I visited said no. I went on yelp and searched under luggage repair and found The Cobbler. Not only could Jay the owner do it, but his wife Dana found a couple of D-rings that were antiqued to match the antiqued hardware on the satchel. I told Jay I needed it in 5 days and he did it in one day, at a very reasonable price. To anchor the D-rings he found some dark green leather that went really well with the green of the satchel. Amazing! Btw, Dana is a seamstress and I observed her fine workmanship in the shop. read more

I used to come here over 10 yrs ago to have new soles put on my Danner work boots. Been here a few times for the same thing. Owner was pretty old and finally sold the place. Brought a shoe to the new owners to fix. The sole was coming apart. Probably cheaper to just buy a new pair but this pair is practically new with not much wear at all. Jay quoted me $15 to re-glue it. Totally reasonable!! Picked it up in a week and it looks good. Haven't worn it yet so hopefully it holds up. So I go to put it back into the closet and of course, I noticed the other shoe is also starting to come apart. WTF?!?!? Went back to Jay and was help by a female this time.
