Rather than writing them off completely (and especially with them being so close to home), we decided to give them a chance to get their ducks in line and try again. On a wet winter evening, we all piled into the restaurant for a family dinner. Red Earth have made a conscious effort to expose the heritage features of the building and it is definitely one of the classier establishments in town. Our table ordered a variety of different meals. The hapuka was highly rated in particular, as was the quesadilla. The pâté dish came with a generous serve of bread but the pâté itself could have benefited from deeper flavour, as could the sliders. The kids' menu was mildly disappointing, with only the standard options such as chicken nuggets or hot dogs. The wine menu is extensive and well-stocked with a broad section of great varietals; the wine bar side of the business is on point. Service was fantastic. Orders were promptly taken and the kid's meal arrived at the table very quickly - if you've ever dined out with children in the evening, you'll know that this is part of the recipe for happiness. They also offered to take the stroller and place it in their cellar until we were ready to depart, just a small move but very helpful. Overall, is it the best meal I've ever had? No. But the options for upmarket dining in Papakura township are relatively limited and Red Earth fills the gap. It was definitely a better experience than our first visit. I'd return in future and try some of the larger meal options as these seemed to have a better flavour profile, at least with those at our table.

After following for a week i couldn't not try myself and finally drove out to Papakura. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT! It was well worth the drive, let me tell you. GarLIT Chicken is delicious! Chops - sooo good. Won tons also amazing - Full of meat and so fresh! SAtay sauce is very peanutty and tasty! Big portions, fair pricing and yummy food - what more could you want? We've referred so many friends and family and they all love it too. The atmosphere is nice and appealing, good standard of cleanliness and staff are friendly. And to be honest, nothing much has really changed here, which is not such a bad thing. The restaurant is a somewhat strange place, especially when you first enter because it is much larger/longer than it actually needs to be. You find yourself making your way to the counter, which looks so far away that it feels like you're walking down the aisle of your wedding. Eventually you make it there and it's worth the long hike because the dishes here are pretty tasty. The staff are friendly, and you don't have to wait a long time to receive your order. Large portions of delicious Asian cuisine. Like.

They sell lots of different products that you would not often see in central Auckland. I think the guy serving everyone had had a rough day as he didn't seem very cheery. Service was still good though but a happy face would have made it top notch. I ordered a soy hot chocolate which was yum but I guess you can't really mess that up. He had a long black which was made very well. I ordered the curry of the day (Thai chicken) and it was ok, I have had better as the chicken was dry and the courgette flavour was strong, quite fusion. He had their big breakfast which apparently was a lot nicer than any other one he had back in Auckland. I thought they are all the same hahaha. When leaving was I tempted to try their cabinet food so I got a cheesecake brownie and a strawberry brownie to take away. LOVED IT. He usually doesn't like sweet food (like most guys) but he loved it too! Kitchen closes at 2.30pm but cabinet food goes until close. I would highly recommend this cafe and then you could stop by clevedon coast oysters before or after = perfect day

Well, Ciao Bella has both a nice, homey looking country cafe with an Italian twist, as well as all your farmer's market needs. Feels like an acid trip from the 60s. Basically, it's a breath of fresh air on your journey to Clevedon or beyond.
