What I like about this particular TJ Maxx is the consistency and location. What I don't like is that the consistency isn't exactly the best. I usually walk into a Marshall's or TJ Maxx and can't walk out of their without buying something but here I don't have that issue. For some reason the prices here seem a bit more steep than their other locations and their inventory is extremely picked over due to the amount of traffic that goes through the store. Again, I like that it has a great location right in Downtown Crossing but honestly I'd rather go to the Marshall's downstairs. read more

Overall, this is a good, run-of-the-mill TJ Maxx. I haven't had any better or worse experience here than I have at other TJ Maxx locations. This one is in a prime spot, though: close to the T and nestled right in Downtown Crossing. The staff is nice, the lighting is good, the place is clean. This is a great one! Bright, neat, clean with really good selection of not just clothes, but bags and gourmet food too. I know for sure they re-stock often, especially the coffee and biscuits so every time I go, there's no lack of selection. Love their sports clothes selection! My friend found a Patagonia fleece here for $30. (Orig $100) Columbia fleece are even cheaper! Cheapest place for Lindt chocolate! Get a whole bar of 70% dark (or milk) for $1.99. THere's also Godiva and Lindt truffles if you're into those. Cashiers are fabulous. I found two exact same sweaters on the Clearance rack but at 2 diff. sizes. I took it up to the register and the lady changed the price of the higher one to the lower price, which is the sweater I wanted. read more

TJ Maxx is your standard discount, bargain basement department store. It is good for towels, ladles, Polo Sport socks, slippers and vases. However, if you are lucky enough to visit a location which offers their Off The Run Way selection, then you are golden. Let's face it money does not necessarily equal top notch style. So when outrageous and progressive styles from designers such as See By Chloe, Helmlut Lang, D&G, Marc Jacob, Vivienne Westwood and more hit the shelves for the first time, 60% of the market isn't ready to breach norm. Then they all get sent off to TJ Maxx, for the more fashion forward ! Here is where you come willing to spend more than you would at TJ Maxx but definitely less than you would at Barney. Their designer selection prices range from $50-$500. TJ Maxx is also a great place to buy sturdy luggage by high end and mid tier designers. I bought a Diane Von Furstenberg giant rolling suite case for $80 with gold hardware, embossed leather, leopard print accents and all! read more

Never, ever go to TJ Maxx expecting you'll find something, or worse, come with a list. That's when you won't find anything. Instead this is true hit-or-miss shopping, but sometimes you really get lucky. I tend to have more luck with the accessories than with the clothes - unfortunately petites aren't their strong point, and basically purchasing any clothes here forces me to go to the tailor's to get them altered. This location is ALWAYS busy. A bit on the cluttered and at times unorganized. But,if you're will to look through a couple or racks of clothing,you might be able to find some hidden gems. They have everything setup in departments,with hanging signs above the department. They lost a star due to lack of cosmetics in this location. They had a ton of makeup brushes and shampoos,but that was it. Another star down due to lack of workout cloths that were super short or super tight. Hopefully they'll have more selections when I visit this location again. read more

This TJ Maxx is upstairs from a Marshalls at the same location. Clientele is older and not as touristy as Marshalls. Good selection of all departments but I found the handbag selection to be very good (I restrained myself and did not purchase any!). read more

Great location & layout as well as very easy to get to if you are in the area. Cashiers are always very friendly. Only complaint is the excessive amount of employees restocking the shelves in the morning that make it hard to shop certain aisles. read more

It's no secret that I love designer jeans, and also that I love a good deal. This TJ Maxx fulfills both needs excellently; in fact, every time I'm in Boston I stop by, and usually end up walking out with a couple of pairs of jeans. I used to shop here when I lived in Boston, and have scored some great finds over the years. But now, it's all about the "Runway" section for me - I mean, where else can you score brand new Joe's Jeans, Seven for All Mankind, Rock and Republic, True Religion, etc. for $80 or so a pair (depending on the brand)? Never mind that the selection is huge, which adds to the awesomeness. On my most recent trip in, I also scored some cute sunglasses that were on sale. YAY! The store is not the most tidy, as there are always things crammed on the racks, on the floor, etc., but if you're willing to dig a bit and overlook the chaos, there are great deals to be had. FIVE STARS: For the cool junior department so I can get all my pretty "date tops" for the dates that never occur. (Yes they still have the price tag on them, they wait in my closet, patiently..... Believe it or not, I like to go to TJ Maxx for olive oil and coffee beans. And, I'm actually quite picky about both, meaning that I will not buy either at a supermarket. This place actually has some pretty good gourmet food and at really good prices. I've also bought creamed honey, hot chocolate, and other food items there and have never had a problem with it being too stale to eat. As for the clothing, I've had mediocre success in finding good deals. I've found a wool blazer and a wool jacket for just $20 each. Socks are good deals here. It's not the place to go if you really need a certain thing. So, if you're looking for an interview suit or something like that for tomorrow, go somewhere else. If you think you might need an interview suit for next year, check this place out. Maybe you'll see one, maybe you won't. The point is, this is a store for people who like to walk around a store just looking at stuff or just like to shop. It's not the in and out kind of shopping experience. Meh. Selection is okay. If you've been to a TJ Maxx, you know what to expect. However, I would echo the comments of others who have reviewed this particular location-- customer service is not so hot! I tried on a shirtdress, and I didn't notice until I got into the fitting room that the seams in the back were totally ripped. I alerted the fitting room lady, who responded, "Uh, so what are you asking me?" I'm not asking you anything-- just want to let you know that this is a damaged item and should be labeled as such! I liked Marshall's, which is essentially right next door, better. Also, why are these two stores right next to one another-- they're, like, the same thing! Do yourself a favor and check out the Marshall's in Somerville. It's more spacious than this TJ Maxx and has a better selection. read more

I didn't intend to go into this store. I had just gone into the H&M and Marshalls and was feeling a bit tired. But isn't that when sometimes there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? I shuffled around the store, idly looking at handbags thinking perhaps I'd find some spectacular bag hiding in the corner. Then I had a great idea. I had packed, er, overpacked and if I really wanted to shop, I needed a bigger carry on bag. Yeah, I bought a big ol' tote here. Best part? $25! It was originally closer to $100. This store has a large luggage section, most of it matching! A large suitcase was running about $60 and a smaller one around $40. I also found some BLISS products and I love their lotions. I got a three pack for $10. One regular tube from Sephora or something would be closer to $30. Great deals are lurking here. read more

After flagging down the lone cashier, because she was too busy doing something with boxes to notice the line of people that had formed: Me: "Would you mind cutting the tag off those pants? As it turns out, I need to change into them before I get to work!" Clerk: "No." Me: "Uhh... why not?" Clerk: "I don't do that." Excuse me? Pretty princess won't lift a finger to cut my tags off? She then refused to even let me borrow a pair of scissors so I could cut them off myself, stating that "it's better that you don't". Uh... I used to work in a shoe store, and we used to love it when people asked us to get the tags off to wear the shoes out because it meant we were guaranteed the sale -- no returns possible. So today I had to toddle in to work in my street clothes, sheepishly cut the tags off and run to the bathroom to change before anybody saw me. I love your deals, TJ Maxx, but your customer service is pretty pale. read more

TJ Maxx and stores like it really aren't my thing. Don't get me wrong, I love a bargain, but I don't have the patience to rifle through endless racks of crap to find something nice. I went in tonight for leggings and had a really nice woman help me check into the dressing room, and then a really nice cashier. I was so surprised! The people working there are usually not so nice. Perhaps I caught them on an off day? No matter. For now, they deserve four stars. read more

This is a follow-up to my review of 1/22: TJ Maxx got back to me and as "a one-time exception" sent a $15 gift card with apologies for any inconvenience. I do think they need to have a formula of words to say when an item is mistagged. I have to wonder if there's some legal reason they can't even be open to the possibility that someone on staff made a mistake and mistagged the item - because putting a customer under a cloud of suspicion is definitely not good. TJ Maxx promotes itself as a bargain-hunters's paradise, and it doesn't work to make bargain hunting especially via the red and yellow tag markdowns and seasonal clearances, a suspicious activity. I hope the borderline accusation was a "one-time" occurrence too, and store management handles customers better. read more

Your general TJMaxx selections. They have decent Runway items (apparel, some purses) but definitely lacking in the beauty (lotions, creams, perfumes, etc.) department. I was pleasantly surprised by their customer service. This is a busy downtown location but the customer service department was pleasant and helpful. That is always a huge bonus in my book. read more

This TJ Maxx is typically dreadful - picked through and no upscale luxury brands. It was right next to H&M which my friend wanted to hit up so we figure we should do a quick once around of the TJM, expecting to leave empty-handed. Neither of us had any luck until I landed on a Vera Wang dress for $44 down from $600. It was quite a find for this location but a true rarity. read more

am i the only one who lives off tj maxx? i spend almost as much time there as i spend with my friends. tj maxx is a best friend. i have found so many amazing bargains that i try to go there every 2 weeks at least. first off, i have to say that i may be the ultimate bargain shopper. i jump with joy at the sight of red and yellow tags on top of already discounted prices. i love rummaging through rows and rows of disorganized clothing in hopes of finding that ultimate gem. i usually spend hours here first checking out the expensive stuff at the front, the handbags, shoes and underwear, the clearance clothing aisles, and if energy permits, the household stuff. it's true that it's more of a hit or miss here because sometimes they have great items on sale like an alice and olivia shirt for 7$ (original tj maxx price of $165), other times, what's left are only the deodorant stained shirts and the oversized grandma pants. but i love tj maxx (and marshalls of course). i've even converted my boyfriend who now buys his dress shirts, ties, pants, and t-shirts there. even at their normal price, you can get find great discounts like vera wang sleepwear (75% off retail) and diane von furstenberg luggage, but you really have to have the patience and desire to go through lots of junk first. i have to be in my tj maxx mood and like to prepare myself by reminding me what great deals i have got like the following: charles david pumps for $6 (retail at least 75$). nixon duchess watch for $35 (retail $125). seven jeans for $75. hurley swimwear skirt for $2 (retail $35). neuhaus chocolates for $30 (retail around $100 - or maybe that was marshalls). sexy underwear for less than $3. and the list continues. i sometimes get confused with tj maxx and marshalls (i perfer the marshall's on boylston), but tj maxx usually has more high end stuff. i love it. tj maxx and marshalls are by far my most shopped at places. read more

I always stop by here on a Thursday or Friday afterwork. These two days are the times when new shipment comes in. This is one of the few location where they carry the runway collection. I get most of my designer jeans here with Joe's being my favorite denim brand. I also got a pair of 7 for all mankind here. All under $100. They also carry a good assortment of other designers like Tahari, Polo Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors. read more

SO many of my friends always find great stuff when they go to a TJ's, I find when I go its always picked through...very disappointing. They usually have a great selection of handbags...but I never find any clothes. Its one of those places I go to hoping to find exactly what I am looking for, but am always let down. read more

Yucky, beat up store. You might find some gym clothes if you're over weight but that's it. You wil never find anything under a size 6 here and the store is shabby. You might find some sheets or something though. read more

This review is for the manager that pretended to help me yesterday at the jewelry counter. Horrible customer service skills!!! I tend to love TJ Max and pretty much only shop here or Marshalls. This TJ max usually has a pretty good jewelry counter and I have bought so many things there. I go in at least once a week or more (a lil addicted I know). However, I was highly disappointed yesterday. I had purchased in March a pair of earrings that were supposed to be sterling silver as a present for my mother in law, they were only 19.99 but still so cute. She tried to wear them and one of the earrings broke in half on the first day. So she asked me to see if I can get another pair. Now since they were a present and typically get quality things from this place I didn't think I needed to keep the receipt or the tag. I thought I try and exchange them for another pair of earrings, if possible. I go up to the counter and the girl very nicely said well our policy says that you need a receipt, but she remembered the earrings were there earlier on so she needed to get a manger to see if they would exchange them. So the manager comes, I showed him the earrings and all he could say was (first words out of his mouth) "Well I don't know what you are trying to do here, you may be trying to steal so no I wont exchange them without a receipt." it crushed my heart. At least try to hear out what happen. I have spent so much money at this store and you could tell that the earrings were brand new never been worn and one of them was broken. I was more upset that he insinuated that I was doing something dishonest, then with the fact that he did not accept the earrings. I am going to try and send an official complaint letter to their home office if I can find the time. read more

I always stop in here when I'm in the downtown area. I love that's it's so close to marshall's, I can really get some good finds in one afternoon. It's pretty similar to other TJ maxx's , but it's quite large and well stocked. They also have a runway section which I've not seen in the other stores. There's usually some cool designer clothes that are too expensive for me, but still considerably marked down from their high price tags. In some ways, its a bit too big, but I've never left empty handed.Not quite as nice as the assembly sq one which is a combo Home goods, but still great. read more

When you hit this TJ Maxx at the right time, it's AMAZING. Their Runway section is usually a few kind of lame-looking racks with some out-of-season/boring/over-the-top/there's-a-reason-no-one-bought-this clothing. When I walked in today, I was shocked to see that the Runway section had taken over a good portion of the store and there were more than a few great finds mixed in. Beautiful See by Chloe dresses, a gorgeous Rag and Bone nylon jacket that is still haunting me (and I'm not really a nylon jacket kinda girl), a couple racks of great Theory skirts and tops, some Coach and Versace bags, all at pretty good prices for what you're getting. I was too overwhelmed to choose anything on my short lunch break, so I left with only a $20 pair of Cole Haan sunglasses, but I'll be back when I can peruse at my leisure (and before it's all gone!). read more

So I sent this complaint in to their online complaints department, and I received within a week an apology. After a couple more weeks, there followed a printed letter and a $25 gift certificate. I guess it's one way to make amends and bring a customer back to the store, though I'm still leery of this. I am glad that they did take my complaint seriously and followed through on it. read more

So disappointed in the customer service (lack thereof) at this particular TJX. Wow, I am somewhat amazed at how rude some people (managers) can treat others. I only asked about pricing of some sheet sets that had been clearly mismarked /priced wrong. Sheet sets are priced usually with $10 increases per size. So there they were same sheets and I had decided to buy a set in honor of Kate Spade (twin $29.99; full $49.99 (mismarked); queen $49.99). I knew the full set should be $39.99. I stood in a long line to ask the customer service rep (Rebecca) who very quickly and saucily ignored my issues completely. NO she said. These are correct prices. There was another sheet set that I had seen in the clearance section without a price tag. The sheets were all balled up in a plastic bag and the zipper was torn, disconnected from the plastic. They did not look fresh. BUT she said "item is not damaged, so they are not discounted" as she prepared a price tag for the package and pushed them all balled up back into the plastic. It was a little absurd. Rebecca, I hope you are reading this, and can recall the rudeness of how you treated me, and how you likely treat other TJX customers. So the next day I drove to another TJX and yes, there they were, the full set of sheets for the correct price $39.99. I know it is just $10, but for me, it is a matter of principle, and it was so wrong for the person Rebecca to disregard my concern. I have shopped (and spent boatloads!) at TJX over many years, and at the very least, the customer service person usually will be kind, and appreciate and acknowledge the customer's concern, and try to be helpful. Not so w/this particular 'manager' Rebecca at TJX Washington Street, downtown Boston!! Not a fan! read more

You seriously have to dig.....but you can get serious name brands at a %......I got a BCBG dress that was to die for. ...The too other things, most noteworthy at this location are the fragrances (Hanae Morrie (sp.?), Euphoria, Dior Addict, Burberry Brit Red, Thierry Mulger Angel) they have an awesome selection........and the jewelry/watches/sunglasses...some great pieces especially in the clearance..................Don't be sad if you leave empty handed-check back often for new shipments...You will not be disappointed. read more

Two stars because they have good stuff, but the employee I dealt with at the customer service desk for an exchange was horrendous! She called me over to her register and then proceeded to do 5 other things besides ring me up! The cashier next to her went through 4 customers before she even got to me! The other women/employees I saw her speaking to while she was ignoring me had very weak customer service skills as well, they were all just hanging out and ignoring customers, it was awful.
