By far the best TJ Maxx I've been to thus far. I've been to many all over the state, including a few "TK Maxx" locations in the UK, but none of them hold a candle to this one. I've never been to such a clean, organized and well-stocked location like this one before. At the local TJ Maxx in my hometown, you *occasionally* find a hidden gem, but at this one? There are gems all over. They have amazing designer clothes at fair prices, and all the necessities when it comes to makeup, skin care, home decor and etc. I was particularly impressed with the men's section as well. They had a fully-stocked section with great items to choose from for my boyfriend. We ended up getting a great Carhartt beanie for him, and a nice jacket and gloves for myself in the women's section. The staff are all pretty helpful as well. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you have a chance. read more

At least not the ones I have been to in Fresh Pond and DT on Washington St. I've been to better TJMaxx in other states where I have lived [even outside big cities] with more options of merch than this one. Also tough to find a helpful staff on the floor. I still purchase personal items here but they are short on the kind of workout clothes I usually get at TJMaxx. For being downtown above a Marshall's and below a Boston Sports Club, this is a decent location. A little small but convenience... right at DTX. Decent luggage department! There's 2 walls and 2 aisles of luggage. Decent hang bag selection too! I don't really shop here for much else. The aisles are always in a little disarray but decent store. read more

It's chaotic, it's crowded and the checkout line will stretch on till forever but it's still a great place to shop. Like any other store in the area, space is limited so things are packed in. They do their best to keep things need but people are messy and you can only do so much re-organizing in a day. There are lots of good deals and very nice brands here. I found a beautiful J-crew peacoat that I treasure and the basics are cheap! What I do like ab out this is that they have about 10 registers and they are almost always full of staff. now, the staff aren't exactly fast, but at least they have the bodies! read more

Rude employees ban customers from going to the bathroom saying it is "out of order" when there's multiple customers in the bathroom. Male employee rudely and inappropriately came into the women restroom claiming he told everyone that he told everyone restroom was out of order. If you have a "broken" bathroom, you should put a sign... not inappropriately enter a place and blame a customer.... read more

This is a pretty good TJ Maxx, although it can get a little crowded at times. The set up is a little odd, and it can be difficult to navigate at times. The area around the bags and jewelry is also occupied by sunglasses and scarves and it can be difficult to maneuver around all the stuff if there's more than a few people in this section. Compared to other TJs, this store has a better selection of bags, luggage and shoes than most places. I would not recommend the home selection here. There's a very limited selection of sheets and towels and decor. My main gripe with this place is that sometimes the staff at the jewelry counter are way more interested in chatting among themselves or with friends visiting the store than actually helping customers. On a number of occasions I have just walked out because I didn't want to deal with the jewelry counter staff completely ignoring me so they could attend to their personal business. If they had staff that was a little more interested in helping customers, I would have purchased a lot more jewelry here. read more

Hello glorious discounted, high quality, designer clothing all for me to caress the fabric and revel in its glory. My visit starts on the escalator, a stairway to heaven, where I am anticipating my arrival, planning out my route (which never ends up going as planned) and fantasizing about my great new finds. Then there it is.. everything I could possibly need. Shoes, Clothing (I hate to admit, I sometimes stroll through the Junior section pretending that I'm looking for my pre-teen cousins..), handbags, lotions and homegoods. I have even stumbled upon small weights that I purchased in order to increase my strength to be able to carry my many bags home. Lovely, Lovely, Lovely. (I am imagining TJ Maxx as a field of gold flower that I skip through holding my credit card in my hand.) Word to the wise: Do not go shopping here with Amy P., as she somehow snags the most beautiful, trendy things in the rack just before you can browse through. Not a very big location. In fact it is about the smallest I've ever been to. I was killing some time this morning and was walking by this location so I thought I'd give the store a spin. The different departments are very tiny due to the limited amount of space in the store. The bed and bath department had a few nice things but the selection was very small. Another thing I noticed is that the beauty department consisted mostly of hair products and bath and body items. Their selection of cosmetics was definitely not as wide as I have seen in other TJ Maxx stores that I've been to. They did have a pretty good jewelry counter and there was plenty of silver and gold jewelry for sale as well as lots of costume jewelry. The women's clothing department was a bit disorganized but if you don't mind picking through things there are plenty of good deals to be had here. They have restrooms here which is cool but the entrance to the bathrooms is locked. So if you want to use them you need to see an employee to get the code to gain access which I found to be kind of odd. I'll give it three stars since it's an okay location but not one that I'd hurry back to. read more

I love TJ Maxx! I was surprised by how many wedding related products they had. Products included "LOVE" signs, picture frames, blank Jenga blocks that you could use as a guest sign in, a jar with heart chips that could also be used as guest sign in, Mr. & Mrs. signs for the back of the bride & groom's chairs, a little trinket plate that could be used to hold the rings, picture albums, and so much more. They also sell a bunch of cool summer stuff like coolers, beach chairs, picnic baskets, corn hole boards, stakes you put into the sand to hold your drink, beach towels, bathing suits, gardening tools/decor, etc. The shoe selection was smaller than other TJ Maxx stores I've seen. They had a ton of men's grooming products (beard oils, shaving creams, face masks, etc). read more

She called the manager and retreated into her den of unpleasantries. But then Mary appeared and fixed everything up in under a minute. Lisa brought me here with my pooch looking for some sales. It was Sunday night just before the store was about to closes so many things had been picked through and purchased. I went back today and although it was restocked I didn't find the "perfect" pet bag yet for my Yorkie pooch. They had cleaned up the store from the night before and new boots and shoes were being put up and organized. I've been forced to go to TJ Max stores all over the country. This store took the cake for the worst TJ Maxx experience I've ever been too. The only reason I go to TJ Max is to satisfy my wife's bargain shopping. At every store I've been to there has been a public restroom. All I ask as my wife shops and spend our money is a place to sit and a restroom to use. Every TJ Max I've been to there is a public restroom to use. But this store's restroom is locked away but has a sign for public restrooms. When I went to use the restroom a worker was there letting people in because you need a code to get access. When I asked the worker if I could use the restroom the worker rudely said, " Another one, we'll you better hurry up and get out!" I didn't say anything because I thought "hey maybe she's having a bad day." I decided that if anyone can criticize how I do my job when they have no training or experience in my job and can make a complaint then I will do the same. If your store is going announce "restrooms here" and put a code lock then expect your customers to demand the code. I don't care if your having a bad day you don't have a excuse to treat any customer rudely especially when that customer, me, was polite. I did tell the manager my experience and pointed out the worker to him. I can only hope he did something about her attitude to customers. read more

I'm a huge TJ Maxx fanatic and I ADORE the TJM near me in my Seattle 'burb (in Woodinville, WA, specifically. I've gotten 95% of my whole wardrobe here. It's the best store ever!). But I was severely disappointed in this Boston store. The selection of womens' clothes was quite small, and we were struck by how the place was somewhat in disarray, with merchandise found in odd racks and shelves, far from where they should be. The dressing rooms are more restrictive than what we're used to, with a limit of clothing allowed in the room, and an attendant counting everything (there's no limit in my usual store). And the bathrooms here are locked, so if you have to go, you need to track down an employee to unlock the door for you (no easy feat at times. Be forewarned!). I suppose that this is an unfortunate necessity in a downtown store in any big city (although I don't recall this set-up at any downtown Seattle store). I know it's commonplace in New York, though. I'm just not used to it. The reason I'm giving this store such a low rating is two-fold: -I was interested in looking at the jewelry counter and getting a necklace or two. At the counter, the sales gal was chatting with a friend of hers on the other side of the counter. They were looking at photos on the friend's cell phone. I couldn't get access to or see the jewelry in the display case, as the friend and the sales gal wouldn't move. There were a few other women near me who were also trying to see what jewelry was in this case, with no luck. The saleslady was oblivious to us all. None of us opted to disrupt the conversation between the two women; it seemed to be personal and involved. (They lost a few potential sales, though, for sure). -the lady who rung me up at the cash was cold (to put it mildly). No eye contact, no "hello" or "did you find everything ok?" or "thanks for shopping at TJ Maxx" or any small talk. No talk at all, in fact. Just the amount I owed and she handed me my cash. I said "thank you" to her to no reply. Wow. My kids and I sensed this woman hated her job and just didn't want to be there. But you don't ignore or be dismissive like this to paying customers. Discount shopping, people. NOT for everyone. Everything is good within its genre, so please, don't complain that they didn't have your size, or that the clientele was shifty, or that the store was messy. Don't be comparin' good ole honest TJ Max with Bloomie's. Compare it with other TJ Max's. For example, I was rather in need of some retail therapy yesterday due to a prolonged bout of the pouties. Where else would I be able to go and, without feeling like I was spending my kid's barmitzvah money, buy: jeans, 1 pair; sweater dress, 1; shoes, sensible, 1 pair; shoes, frivolous, 1 pair; bubble bath, coconut lime, 1 giant jar; (Don't have kids, relax boys.) And this was halted only because I didn't grab a cart, and simply didn't have enough room in my vast embrace for further acquisitions! Or else I might have ended up with purple and blue henleys, 2; French skin care products, 3 jars... etc Comparing it to other similar discount shopping stores, it's a little less organized, probably because the turnover is higher; also, lines are long. On the other hand, it's big, and the selection is good. I would totally add a half star here for the strict Russian FOB minding the dressing room, who totally calculated me out, and didn't even ATTEMPT to speak English to me; she just knew. I was in Marshall's trying to decide which bottle of hot sauce I was going to buy to dump on the bag of jelly belly's I was going to buy to go with the bottle of Bloody Mary Mix which I was thinking of trying with the hazlenut coffee syrup in one glass I was going to buy and look cookies from England! Then someone reminded me I was in TJ Max. What's up? How did that happen? This is place built on a black hole with a breach in the space/time continuum. Continue Um. ah screw it. Star Trek stuff. So now we all know this is the twilight zone and you can find Polo's at a discount and jeans and furniture and kids CD roms and gear and panties (saw them, didn't try any on this time). It's a cool discount place. I'm usually walking around looking at stuff while someone else is actually shopping. I always end up looking at the food, or pots and pans, and recently frames. ( i don't know why) It is just like Marshalls and sorta like a mini Walmart without the "special" person at the door. read more

I usually come here during my lunch break and try not to stay longer than twenty or so minutes because this place is always crowded with teenagers around which always makes me think to myself - uh, it's 12pm, why aren't you kids in school?! So you're new to Boston. You work downtown and are about to T home to Allston/Somerville/the South End and realize you have nothing in which to cook your ramen noodles. Cue TJ Maxx. This is my go-to store when I am looking for homegoods, from frying pans to bathroom storage to warm winter blankets. This section of the store never ceases to amaze me with its selection of cookware in all colors and sizes, and fitting for all price ranges. I just got a great frying pan here for $10, and it's stylish too. Their selection of purses and suitcases is solid as well, and offers great variety for every budget. The rest of the store loses a star for being a little hard to find things. The dress section is tolerable, but the women's clothing in general tends to be a mess. The whole place (and the atmosphere) is much friendlier than Marshalls downstairs. Between the homegoods, the luggage, and the other things I didn't know I needed until I saw them there, this is one of my favorite stores in downtown Boston. read more

Exhausted from a long day of enjoying all of the precious goods and bargain deals the TJ Maxx at Downtown Crossing has to offer, my shopping cart began to sink into the tile floor from the weight of my newfound delights. Suddenly, I hear a blaring voice above me, telling me the store must close in an abrupt 30 minutes. As if a spotlight shone down onto her specifically to enhance my shopping experience, a kind employee approaches me and tenderly asks me if I need help finding anything. "Ma'am," i faintly whisper, "i thought you'd never ask." Thrilled, I ask to take a photo with her. She kindly agrees to my request and, at 8:55pm, a prompt 5 minutes before close, she helps me unload my items. I'm not crazy about this TJ maxx. The selection is OK, and it's pretty cool how they have the "runway" section but considering this is in Downtown I would expect a little better. I made a return the other day and though the transaction wasn't too painful (even with tags attached and receipt in hand they had to verify the item), it lacked some serious eye-contact. I could barely tell that the clerk waved me to the register, she wasn't even looking in my direction. I know, I'm a customer making a return, I'm the scum of the Earth, but I think I deserve a little eye-to-eye. Why not properly greet your customers--scum or not--instead of chatting up the cashier next to you? read more

I know and appreciate the amount of customers that must pour into the store, but honestly, no matter what time of day I have gone in, the place is a wreck. I am almost addicted to this store & spend more than I should here but there are tons of things you can get, from beauty products to clothes to food items. It comes in handy when you're on a budget. There are things that might be here one day & not the next which can be problematic when you find something you like. So buy it when you can or may not see it again. Very hit or miss. The only issue is how busy it is so expect to wait in line which is the real downside. read more

Let's discuss how much I dislike shopping. Ok, I don't totally dislike it, I am a girl, but it is always such an f'ing process. If I'm looking for something in particular, I go to all of my usual stores to make an initial assessment of what's available (this involves multiple trips), then I debate on it for awhile, and by the time I go back to the store to buy whatever it is, it's out of style or I've rationalized myself out of spending money. Needless to say, Christmas shopping can be a nightmare. That is why I really like a store that carries such a random selection. So what if it requires some digging? I'd rather take my chances on finding the perfect item here than wander around the overwhelming H+M next door only to buy something that the entire Greater Boston area will be wearing. I must admit that I do not shop at TJ's all that often, but I recommend taking some time to browse. You really don't know what you might find - like $10 quality ski goggles, awesome. Try the Allston location, too, it's the same size as the downtown store but not as crowded. read more

This review is mostly for the Runway section of the store. I came by on a Wednesday afternoon just as the first snow flakes started to fall. I was so excited to visit this TJ Maxx and see what the Runway section had in store. I was so disappointed. Items were not grouped well (i.e. Marc Jacobs dress here, Marc Jacobs pants there). There weren't many items, and items that were in this section weren't even Runway items. Poorly stocked, poorly organized. read more

This is a pretty good place if you're looking for discount handbags that are higher end. I often find a to die for Marc Jacobs bag for about 1/3 of what I would pay for it retail. Every section has a pretty decent selection, but with any TJ Maxx you must be willing to dig for it. read more
