THE WORST TJ MAX!!!!!!!!! i'm an avid tj max shopper and i always try to avoid this location (specifically) bc of how terrible it is. however, i always try to give it the benefit of the doubt and tell myself maybe im overreacting... no, after just leaving the store i decided "this is the absolute last time i will come into this store and i will never support this tj max location again." i am not the person to leave reviews but this is absolutely ridiculous. the store is always unorganized, stuff is thrown everywhere. the store is never clean, it's complete chaos every time u shop. i would typically try to come here bc of how big the store is thinking that there will be a bigger/better selection. well let me just say, bigger isn't always better. the selection is terrible, i never find anything good because of how unkept the store is. just ratchet. there's always a line wrapped around the entire store every time i come in requiring u to wait at least 15 mins. all i have to say is, go somewhere else! read more

I was in line at the TJ Maxx, Hoover, when I had a medical emergency on Wednesday, the 31st. TJ the manager, called 911, grabbed a cold cloth and brought me water and crackers. I was really out of it and sitting on the floor. She re-directed the line so that people wouldn't be standing all around me and stayed by my side until paramedics arrived and throughout my ordeal. Kendra made sure my packages were safe and Chevonne (sp?) made sure I was checked out and all of my belongings were safe. I can't say enough about how these staff members went above and beyond to help me when I couldn't help myself. What a great team! They should be commended. Thank all of you so much!! read more

Came here with the sister and my goodness not sure what it is about these discount department stores that makes every shopper feel awful, but this one tops the list. When trying on the clothes in the fitting room you have to first place all items on a rack. Then they count each one out and hand them back to you. Okay fine weird but I get it. Why do I have to put them on the rack myself while you count? Take them from me and do it yourself, I'm the shopper. About the fitting rooms, please for the love of God get some automatic airfreshners in there! It smelled like day old tuna and a sweat sock in mine. On top of that, employees at the register are not allowed to check prices for you. When I asked about a price, the cashier pointed to the tag. I was like can you check it and she sad no. I was like really? and she said it says it on the tag. (I can see that but check anyway I'm the customer) Could she not have just rang the item up and then hit void? I told the manager who did check it but they need a new system because I'm sure we're not the first people who wondered if the price was right on the tag. Even the manager was like yeah that doesn't look right...not for TJMaxx. Anyways I know I sound like I'm a middle aged woman named Karen who complains and wants to speak to the manager all the time but rest assured I'm not. I just have issues with stores that have unfriendly climates towards shoppers. read more

Today, I went into the store to shop for some clothing items for an upcoming trip. I've come to this location before, and never had an issue. However, the older lady working the fitting room was extremely rude to me, and even said, "Ma'am are you having trouble articulating what this sign says?" But she said it all in a very condescending tone. I simply couldn't hear her, and also had never had my items counted beforehand from the fitting room staff. I completely understand counting it beforehand, totally makes sense as a fellow retail and tech worker here. But, I did not appreciate the complete condescending attitude, and demeanor towards me. Terrible customer service. Also the fitting rooms were very hot, and it made the experience even more uncomfortable while trying on clothes in what felt like a sauna. Don't go to this location to try on clothes, unless you want to be treated poorly. read more

This is a pleasant store conveniently located in the Hoover area. T J Maxx is a great store to find some great bargain deals on housewares, Knicks and knacks and clothing. I have been here to purchase this like picture frames and pillows all of which were at a great price and decent quality. I have also purchased clothing here and found some great deals I highly recommend at least taking a look around. Due to the nature of the store you don't necessarily get the consistency that you would in other stores but there are some gems in there. I have to say the worst part about shopping at this store is the checkout, just seems unorganised back there. Cashiers are slow. My first visit to this store. Somewhat overwhelming when you walk through the door. Very crowded store with a massive selection of men's, women's and children's clothes. They have a large variety of brands, but from what I see it can be hit or miss as to if you find anything you will want. My friend commented that this store is better suited for coming in and not having something particular you are looking for and just looking. There is a good chance you would find something you want then. In addition to the clothes they have shoes, suit cases, toys, athletic equipment (seriously, they had a Kayak at a reasonable price and a good brand). I was surprised at the amount of home goods they had. Good name brand comforter sets (may be returning for one of these) as well as a good selection of kitchen gadgets. Good brands at a reasonable price. Will probably look here next time I need to grab something for the kitchen. Several staff members checking people out so the long line moved pretty quickly. Will return to browse another day. read more

I have been coming to this tjmax for years, and today I witnessed my mom and me being a victim of racism. I was called a "bitch" and was told to go back to my own country as well as my mom. We then called the manager over who is known as Shane Cash, and he witnessed it again a lady telling me and my mother to go back to "our country" and did not do anything. He only apologized, I am not looking for an apology. I am looking for them to make me feel comfortable, and to not permit racism. With him not doing anything I believe he was okay with them being racist, and tolerated it. I will not be shopping here again. read more

Came in for some after work retail therapy and was followed around the entire time by associates who, I assume, thought I was intending to steal. This really killed the vibe and made my shopping experience an anxious one. I'm not sure if they were profiling me and my black friend or if it is standard protocol for associates to suspiciously stalk customers, but I will not be giving them my business anymore. read more

This is a great TJ Maxx! It is the largest in the Birmingham metro (I confirmed with an employee!). I live very close to this one in Hoover, and it's dangerous! They always have great inventory, and the store is almost always clean and organized. The employees are always nice and helpful, which is nice in such a large store that is constantly receiving new and different shipments. If you are looking for great brands for a great deal, come here. If you are looking for a place to buy fashionable clothes that won't hurt the wallet, come here. I stop by TJMaxx occasionally to find a variety of things from new kitchenware and home decor to wardrobe staples and housing essentials like towels and bedding. There's usually a pile of wares to rummage through to find what you're looking for on any given day. It is worth the potential headache if your looking for a great deal. The chain of stores always has competitively priced items from well-known brands in every department at low prices. I've found everything from fine English China for my tea ware collection and quality cast iron skillets to a cute dress for a wedding and casual jeans. In my opinion, the trek is worth the possibility of find a treasure in the usual sea of chaos. read more

Been here several times and it is one of the largest ones I've seen. It's usually pretty busy, but that's because they have good prices on a lot of things. Staff is usually friendly, but they don't go out of their way to find you and ask you for help either. We usually walk out buying something-furniture items, decor, or random clothing items at bargain prices. Overall good place to go. read more

I have never had a bad experience at this location however for some reason today was much different. I went in initially looking for a duffel bag for my trip and I knew that they would have a variety of duffel bags. I walked around the store a little bit just to check out all of my options and then I ended up in the purse section where I found three of the same duffel bags with this cute plaid print and I just knew I had to have one of them. They all had red stickers on them which made it even better because that meant they were on sale so I grabbed the first one I seen and proceeded on to the checkout line. Once in the checkout line I realize the side of the bag was broken and I assumed that's why it had a sticker on it anyways. Once it was my turn in line I proceeded to the checkout counter and the cashier rung up my item. After she scanned the bag she stated that that sticker did not belong on the bag so I told her it was more back there with red stickers on them as well but she proceeded to call someone on the speaker to come to the counter for what reason I don't know. I asked her if she would like me to go and grab one of the other bags so she can see they have stickers as well and she said yes. I grabbed one of the other bags and brought it to the counter and she tells me that that sticker didn't belong on that bag so someone must've put it there . She insinuated that I put it there although all of the bags had the same sticker. I asked for a manager and she proceeds to tell me that she is the manager on duty and that She would not sell me the bag for that price however she could sell me the bag for the price in which it was supposed to be. thiwas just poor customer service and I ended up telling her to just keep the bag because at this point I didn't want to buy anything from them since I was treated so unfairly. The cashier at Register 1 was extremely rude to my mother today. She and I and several other customers clearly heard the automated voice saying "cashier number one please". She must have accidentally pushed it. My mother walked up and the cashier says "um can I help you ma'am?" in an extremely rude tone. My mother says "I heard cashier number one." The cashier rudely says "no you didn't" almost yelling at her. My mother, embarrassed, turned and walked back to the line only to have each of the cashiers just stare at her. I work in retail and would NEVER treat someone like that. I understand it was busy, but there is NEVER a reason to be that rude to a paying customer. My mother and I (and probably several other customers who heard the rude employee) will take our business elsewhere from now on. read more
