The owner gave me a set of french ombre acrylics a couple of weeks before Christmas and they were the best and longest lasting I have ever had! I didn't need to get them filled for a month! They never started coming loose on the edges or peeling off like ALL my other sets have. They feel good they look good and I get complements everyday! Thank you! read more

Nice fella that did my feet but seemed uncertain as to what he was to do next! My feet are still rough; the other tech that did my mums tender feet used a much more abrasive callus buffer, and my feet needed that as well. So I still have rough calluses - makes me irritated since the tools were there he just didn't use them. Another gal in my group was nipped twice on her toes and also had blood when HER feet were scrubbed, but the porous stone buffer was not a one time use. It'll be used on the next person and it cannot be sterilized. The nail files were well worn as well, there's a lot of re-using. Cheaper I know, but just not hygienic. Really not happy with my pedi either, I can do a better paint job on myself! Overall my nails look good besides the fact there is specs of dirt in them but it is pretty expensive in my opinion and short staffed, i had gotten a fill on my acrylics they are simple black with a charm i was told the charms were $5 each but in the end the fill with the charms was $85!!!! to me that is not reasonable, it was my first and last time going there. read more

I live about an hour away from this place, but it is worth going to! I've had my nails done about 2 months ago and they are still beautiful now! These ladies have been doing nails for years and it shows in their work. Everyone who works there are very nice and friendly. They usually give nail and skin care advice if they notice something to be concerned about. This place is popular as the store is usually quite busy. Waits can be quite long, so it is a good idea to book an appointment ahead of time. Sometimes, even with an appointment, you may still have to wait (but it is worth the wait!). I'm a stickler for customer service. I called at Noon asking for an appointment for 4pm, after back and forth negiotiation she agreeded on 330pm. I confirmed that somewhere there did nail art as well. I always arrive early to choose my colour, I asked the lady who was to do my nails to help me find the brown in the picture I was showing her, her response was "what we have is on the wall" I brushed it off and then said ok, i'll look again to which her response was "can you please hurry because if you don't want it I've got two other customers I can take instead of you", WHAT, I didn't say I didn't want my nails done bcause you didn;t have a colour. I looked at her shocked and realized she was serious, I wouldn't bother giving my $45 to someone who'd rather dismiss me, a new customer to take two new customers. Very unimpressed! read more

Seriously the best stop in North Van to get your nails done really nice and for a great price! I stopped in on a whim to get my nails fixed while visiting and was approached my Maggie, the manager. She was SO sweet and did such an amazing job on my nails! What I loved is that they sell you a "kit" for $1 which includes a nail file and buffer because they don't share them and that means SANITARY which translates to CLEAN! I used to love this place! But I feel it's taken on a major change. Yesterday I visited the store for the first time in a year, I went there because I remembered how pleased I was with my last experience. Oh how it's changed! I remember they used to greet you with a friendly welcome and a warm smile , but yesterday all I got was a "what you want" and a point at a chair. Without saying another word to me she grabbed my hand and pulled it towards her, the only time she said anything is when she was making me out to be an idiot. How rude. She rushed through the whole thing and left me feeling ripped off with my cheap looking nails, she spent absolutely no time on my cuticles and left these little bubbles throughout the nail job (French acrylic). So disappointed!!! Overall I think this shop needs to undergo a huge attitude adjustment before I will consider visiting it again. read more

I had the worst acrylic nails applied here, I've spent days filing them down. My friend and I made appointments together, they didn't get to us until at least 20 minutes past our appointment time. Really unfriendly, and on top of it all... they looked AWFUL! Like deformed bird beaks, they were SO thick and uneven, he also slipped with the drill THREE times! I'll never be back. read more

I was in there a few days ago with a friend who has Huntington's disease. My friend wanted to get a manicure so I suggested TJ Nails since I had been in there numerous times and was happy with the service. Well, if you know anything about Huntington's its a disease which affects your motor coordination and involuntary muscles movements. Anyway, thinking they (TJ Nails) have dealt with a variety of customers, I would've thought that they would treat my friend with the same respect one would any other customer. Well, I was wrong. The lady that did her nails rolled her eyes and giggled with her co-worker reacting to my friends disease. I was disgusted and I will never return again. read more

Yes this is one of those vietnamese places and yes they have those electric massage chairs etc but you know what ? Of all the nail places I 've tried, I have received the best service there. Ok so the person working on your nails doesn't really speak to you but they really concentrate on your nail cleaning, scrubbing and yes they do give you a massage. The polishing always lasts 1-2 weeks. They take walk in customers or appointments. There's a tv and plenty of mags. They are busy but you can talk to your neighbour. I have taken my daughter there and friends and we've emerged happy and satisfied. I will go back and have many times. Prices are good and the results make me a fan read more

For the other reviews that talk about how they experienced bad service... have you been to other Vietnamese nail salons in Vancouver? I don't get my nails done on a regular basis but when I do this is my salon of choice. It's a little out of my way - I used to go to the salons along Kingsway but got tired of the bad service and poorly done acrylics. TJ's is nice and clean, well maintained and the selection of nail polish is huge. They are well staffed and have lots of equipment so you're never stuck waiting for any of the machines/lights. Meggie is great she's so friendly and patient - she's my go to girl. read more

I have been going to TJ Nails for a few years now and I have always been pleased with their service. They know me by name, they are super welcoming and nice and I drive all the way from Coquitlam to North Van (even in my days off) to get my nails done there. Most of the times I see Crystal but when she is not there or when she's busy, I don't mind getting helped by the rest of the staff. They all know what they do, they are pretty experienced. Another plus are their prices, they are SO reasonable!!!. Every time I get there, they take out my personal box (it's so cute! It has my name on it) they keep it there so I don't have to bring it with me all the time (if you ask what's in the box, your own nail stuff! It is yours and you don't worry about sharing it with anyone else). The only reason why I don't give them 5 stars yet is because sometimes they try to help everyone that walks in and if you have an appointment, it kinda gets pushed back a bit, but other than that, I am very happy with them and I would go there always!. It is better if you make an appointment ahead of time, they can get really busy. TJ is at the Capilano Mall, there's lots of parking and the location is pretty convenient. 4 1/2 stars for TJ Nails and the staff! They are fantastic! read more

These folks are not only not good at what they do, they try and take shortcuts. They tried to put gel polish on me and tried to pass it on as gel fills. I have been going to TJ Nails for about a year and a half and would not go any where else. All the staff is great. They get busy and take lots of walk ins but they always look after you very well. They know me by name and are always cheerful and very happy. Once when I could not get my regular girl I took an appointment with the young man who works there and he was delightful and very skilled. I highly recommend this salon, the prices are extremely good and I always feel great coming out~ feeling clean and pampered. The Manager always stops and says hi and chats for a few moments. It is very clean and although not a fancy spa hotel it is hard to beat for value and good service! read more

One of the dirtiest salons I have ever been to!! Dirty Nail dust was on everything from the glass on the front desk to the glass lamp shades above to the frame on the picture on the wall - GROSS!!! Marks on the walls and columns, the garbage can at the back was full and the lid was wide open!!! Dirty towels were left sitting on one of the Pedi chairs!! Obviously they do a good job for me or else that would not be the case.I am pleased with their service, their pricing, and the quality of their work. I have been served by at least four or five ladies, and they were all excellent. I have never had a bad treatment here. At the moment my favorite is Jasmin. I made an appointment for a gel mani here and would never go back. I showed up early for my appointment to choose a colour, and still ended up waiting almost 20 minutes after my appointment was a supposed to start for a nail tech (I should note that there was only 2 other people in the salon, one in a pedi chair and the lady next to me getting a mani). I should have noted how unhappy the lady next to me was, she kept telling the girl she didn't want a french manicure yet the girl kept painting white tips on her nails. She kept saying "just plain, one colour" and the girl would wipe off the white tip then paint it thicker!? Finally, she called over the manager and explained that she didn't ask for a french, and just wanted clear polish! The manager then jumped in and said she would fix it and sent the girl to me (I should have left then). The girl sat down grabbed my hand and starting buffing. She didn't shape my nails of touch my cuticles, even though I asked for the full mani. Her gel application was thick, uneven and patchy and started lifting the next morning. When she was done she just walked away... I literally didn't know if my appointment was done or if she was coming back until a girl walked by and said "you pay over there" !? What a total let down, not only did I get a crappy service, but I didn't even get the full service I paid for. read more

I come here often for a shellac manicure or pedicure. They're great. In/out in a reasonable time, the shellac lasts (honestly, it will grow out before it chips).It's not a fancy spot, but for the price, the quality and the friendly staff it's my go to time and time again. I've had my acrylics and gel manicures done here in the past and have had good experiences. So I decided to try a pedicure for a change It was the complete opposite ! The lady was so rough during each step I had to ask her to stop repeatedly. On more than one occasion she would get distracted and look away which is fine but this was while she continued to cut my cuticles. If I hadn't pulled away I was sure she would've cut me. I feel bad writing this review but maybe if the business reads it, they could make a few adjustments. They were great at fitting me in last minute. I do really appreciate that. And I noticed that they use a proper sterilizer for their equipment. The shop looked nice and clean as well. I asked to have acrylic nails with white tips. When the technician was about to apply the tips I noticed that she hadn't cut my real finger nails which were longer than I wanted the acrylic nails. When I mentioned it she disagreed and proceeded to apply the tips anyways. Now this has created longer acrylic nails than I wanted and instead of having to get a fill in 2 - 3 weeks I will now have to get one in about a week (transparent move to say the least). Also the tips are lifting off of my natural nails and the acrylic is very thick and uneven in places. After she applied the acrylic she instructed me to place my hand under the florescent light. There is no reason why acrylic needs to go under florescent lights, it hardens very quickly on it's own. My nails started burning almost immediately and I had to remove them. After that they ached and throbbed for hours into the night. I had requested to have a gel over-lay and instead of what I paid for and requested, I received an over-lay of shellac. Which I'm assuming was an old bottle as it had bubbled and has discolored already. There are also uneven streaks from being poorly applied. After I left I had to file certain parts of the sides of my nails where the acrylic spilled over the edges or was left jagged under my nail. And a day later they are already starting to lift in some areas. And nothing was done about my cuticles. After this I asked to have my toe nails painted with a french tip. I had another girl do this. I told her repeatedly to make the white tip thicker, I must have told her 5 times, and she nodded her head and continued to paint the thinnest white lines I've ever had with a french paint. I finally gave up as it was embarrassing to have to keep telling her and have her ignore me (I honestly think there was a language barrier). I have worked in a salon myself and know the procedures. When I pay for a service I expect to get what I paid for (to have nails the length I prefer, not go home with burning nails beds, to have thin even coatings, to get a gel over-lay and not a shellac over-lay, not having to file my own nails for jagged edges, nails that don't lift and discolor the next day and thick white painted toe nail tips). Needless to say I won't be going back. read more

RUN , I had made an appointment a few days before and showed up on time but when I got there I was made to wait 1/2 hour because they had over booked , were busy, or just plain forgot about me. When I did eventually get in the woman rushed my nails so badly that the gel was AND STILL IS, soft. Now I have indents all over, my nails look WARPED and I get to spend another $50 to go get them done somewhere else because when I called , they offered to redo them but at full price...... No way . I have been going to TJs for years - picked up a fungus at one point but tried them in their new location as it looked much cleaner.....the first time was great and they seemed to have improved service, name tags on technician, minimizing the chatter in Vietnamese and a new hot stone massage. The last time I was there the receptionist gave me a pedicure and spent most of the time distracted with conversation and giving orders to some new young guy. I have had multiple gel manicures done here that have never chipped and have been able to last as long as three weeks (I get light colours so it is not as noticeable when grows out). I was here for the first time 2 days ago. I made an appointment for 3pm for gel polish, and even though there were only 2 people in the entire salon I waited 20 minutes past my appointment to start. The girl who did my nails didn't say hello, or make any sort of acknowledgment to me other than snatching my hand and starting to file before even asking me about nail shape. She applied four (!!!) coats of the gel polish and it still looks lumpy and uneven. The real kicker though? 5 hours later the polish on my thumb had already lifted, and now 2 days later, it's lifting on two other nails. Compared to my gel mani at The Ten Spot that lasted almost 2 weeks, I'm hugely disappointed. The service was unfriendly, the job was sloppy and the lady sitting next to me was also super unhappy with her nails, and kept explaining over and over that the polish was too thick, yet the girl doing her nails didn't listen. In the end, I feel like it was just a waste of my money and time :-( read more

I have been here 3 times and am surprised by all of the good reviews. My last visit was the worst. Jeff did my toenails . During the pedicure he kept cutting my toes when he was removing my cuticles, so much so that my toes were bleeding at the end of it. I felt like a piece of meat. He was very rushed and only said 2 words to me; sorry and finished. The girl who did my finger nails was nicer but kept complaining they were too busy and that she had not had a break. I was a repeat client for many years though not on a monthly basis and was quite satisfied each time until my last and final visit. I was convinced to try gel nails which initially were a great success for me. On the following visit I decided to have a pedicure and manicure at the same time. What a disaster. My manicure was the gel. It was extremely uncomfortable drying in between hands sitting on the pedicure chair. The woman kept correcting my thumbs when drying. She was very quick and we really didn't communicate well since her English is weak. The next day a nail chipped and several after during the week. I was committed to babysit my grandson that week but believed that since they charge more and my previous gels lasted a month that when I did go in, ( one day past a week ) they would replace the damaged nails. I was told in instead that they guarantee for only one week. Where is this guarantee posted I asked. They showed me the writing way up high where no one can see it. I then asked for the owner or manager to phone me. Never got a call. In short I would never recommend this place. Customer service is NOT part of their language. I am deeply disappointed in how I was treated and am never going back. read more

Went in for a toenail cut and change of polish. My feet were put in to the dry basin, no warm water to soften the toenails which were then cut with a cuticule cutter. One coat of nail polish, as the colour I chose was finished and all for the price of $15 + tax + tip. I will never go back again, not a good experience at alol. read more

I got a white tip fill yesterday and it took TWO HOURS!!! The lady who did mine was not careful and cut my fingers 4 times. I left the nail salon with 3 BLOODY fingers and they did not offer a discount, extra service, or even an apology. The first time it wasn't a huge deal because accidents happen. She said it was because the nail file was new, and switched it. She then switched back on the next finger and cut that one as well. This happened two more times. When she was almost done and doing the last bit of filing, she then the skin along my nail bed. I said "ouch" and she asked if it was hot, and I said no you HAVE to be careful because you keep getting my skin. Maybe she is new at nails or had a long day, but to then charge full price ($50.40) and not offer an apology or express ANYTHING, just hand me the debit machine, is absolutely unacceptable service. The first time I went here, the lady took two hours as well (a different lady, she apologized and said she is picky on detail and wanted to make sure it was perfect) I appreciated her gratitude and wanted to give them a second chance because it is always busy & I have heard good things, but I will NOT be returning as a customer. read more
