When we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the decor and layout of the restaurant. It was busy but only had to wait for a few minutes for them to get a table ready. There were seats at the bar which seemed like a good atmosphere if you chose to sit there. We sat by the window in a 4 top for just the 2 of us. My seat was comfy on a bench. There were many items on the menu that we wanted to try but asked our server for recommendations. My husband ordered wonton soup for appetizer and then Mongolian beef. I ordered the Thai basil chicken. We ate it all! Everything was flavorful and hot in temperature and served just at the right amount of pace. I also ordered the white flower cocktail, it was good and can't quite determine what part of it had a little kick to it! We ordered hot tea for our dessert, they certainly know how to make jasmine tea just right! Restrooms were clean and it's a cozy yet a little upscale vibe but not dressy. Then, we had a bad experience. The food was not good but we hoped it was a one time thing. A few days ago we gave it another try. We ordered pork fried rice, two orders of pot stickers (gyoza), and teriyaki beef appetizer. The total amount spent was $45 plus tip. The fried rice was just okay. Nothing in it besides rice, pork and whatever sauce was used. The pot stickers looked and tasted like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a week. They were dry, stale and tasteless. I thought that the teriyaki beef appetizer would be on skewers, but it was just some pieces of beef filled with gristle, some veggies and what was supposed to be teriyaki. Most of the food ended up in the trash. I don't mind spending money when the food is good, but always feel like I've been taken when it's not. I will be surprised if Golden Bowl is still in business six months from now.
