I've heard great things about TK burgers over the years. We wanted a quick bite. The food was ready fast for takeout. Burgers are big and have lots of fresh toppings. I ordered the chicken sandwich, which was grilled chicken piled high with fresh veggies on their special bun. It was so filling and flavorful. The fries are big and kind of soggy (in a good way, I am a fan of a not-so-crispy fry...so not sure if soggy is the right word to use) and onion rings are also big and crispy (also in a good way)! This rating is purely food FOOD: It is a 2star Cheeseburger: was just OK. There's secret TK sauce. I asked what it was. Teen Cashier said "it's just thousand Island dressing" lol Bread was soft, but too big for the amount of meat that's inside. Turkey burger: I could not eat after two bites I tried. I took it out and just ate one out of the bread with the lettuce, tomato onions, and dipped it in hot sauce to create flavor. The turkey meat tasted like frosted old meat that was soggy and fell apart in a greeny kind of way it was terrible. I think I would definitely gotten sick if I actually ate it. It was definitely like freezer burned or something was wrong for sure. I took a picture of it. It had a weird gray color as you can see. Onion rings: Onion rings were crispy, but had zero flavor. This was a hidden gem for me. The service was spot-on. Everyone I interacted with was super polite and helpful. And the seating outside was great - got there and it wasn't busy yet, so had plenty of choices of where to sit. I love that the patio area has a fully covered option. I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 egg breakfast with sourdough. I ended up tossing in some onion and cilantro, which totally made it for me. I was recommended TK Burgers by a coworker, she had always told me good things and finally I was in the mood for a solid cheeseburger. The restaurant carries it's own surfer town vibe, decorated from the walls to the ceilings with license plates and photos. The outside looked super nice and clean, private parking lot is free. Inside, service was quick and helpful. I got the Big Bargain Special, so a burger and fries for under $10. I might catch some flack for this, but I actually like these kind of burgers better than In N Out.. it's got that homemade backyard BBQ look and feel to it. Imagine hopping out of the pool on a 85 degree sunny day, and then you're greeted with a fresh soft toasted bun, juicy grilled patty with cheese, and sauced down to taste.. a memory to live on forever and now I can relive it anytime here. The customer service was good. And the ambiance of this casual joint was less than stellar. I'm not too disappointed, but it should be improved, especially with the quality of the food. Been here a few times to pick up dinner and have had positive experiences with both the food and service. The vibe is casual with totem style bar seats and tiki masks and surfboards hanging on the walls. The ceiling is covered with surfing paraphernalia as well. So much going on that it definitely keeps your eyes wandering around! THE FOOD. - Cheeseburger | Pretty good; I like the thousand island type sauce and the beef patty has some good char to it. - Fries | I tend to like thicker fries, so this was a good match for me. Golden crispy with a soft interior. - Onion Rings | Also golden crispy; not overly battered and the onions were soft. THE PARKING SPOT. Plenty of free parking and had no issues with finding a spot. I've been here a few times and I'm not gonna lie the food quality was better a couple years back than recent visits. Don't get me wrong, TK is still a decent place to get fresh burgers at a relatively good price, but I've just noticed that the execution is not what it used to be. The last couple of times I've visited this location in particular, either the patty was half raw or the sandwich had so much mayo that it wasn't edible. Mind you, I would tell the cashier that I don't want mayo in the burger but I don't think they heard me or put it down like they said they would. I've noticed a decrease in staff size so maybe that's why the quality of the food has dropped, because the workers are just trying to slam out orders--but at the end of the day if it becomes a consistent occurrence (and it has), then I can't always find an excuse to justify the quality drop. The setting of this location is similar to all other TKs that I've been to, a beach-y, ocean-side vibe that's never too over the top. All in all, if the execution of the food hadn't dropped as of late I'd be more than happy to give this place 4 stars at least, but regardless the food is good enough to kick a burger craving! read more

The restaurant is still cute and eclectic as ever, and the service was timely, but the burger was meh, under seasoned, with the most prominent flavor being American cheese. The staff were somewhat friendly. After a short wait, our food was delivered. We had a Big Bargain Special (BBS) and a Mini Bargain (MB). The BBS was a generous sized burger that came fully dressed with a generous order of fries. The MB was a smaller burger that was also came with generous fixings and a good portion of fries. The burgers tasted pretty good. The fries were also good. The food made a nice meal but I would not go out of my way to eat here again. The restaurant had a tiki motif that looked dated. When I mentioned it to another cashier (who brought out my food -- and yes, it was the regular turkey burger, not a double), she just said, "Oh, it's just a dollar-something difference," and dropped a $1 bill on my table. No apology, no explanation, nothing. It's not really about the money. Mistakes happen -- I get it. But the way you handle those mistakes matters, and this felt dismissive and unprofessional. We had another work event and I experimented in how to make this place's food edible. Thankfully it worked. GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH and FRIES: -- thin chicken breast is pretty dry with nice grill marks on it -- bun is very forgettable, doing it as a lettuce wrap is what I should have done to add additional moisture -- I used the "almost" thousand island (mostly mayo heavy so not a true thousand island) to add some fat, flavor and moisture -- I squeezed many banana peppers juice on it -- I added multiple pieces of lettuce -- fries were decent and did not need salt today, not very oily, a little more oil might help -- I drank some of a orange soda with it to add more punch to the meal and remove some blandness RATING = C- In the end it was a win because I stayed healthier and created an edible meal. Again, if you are a "health nut" (and there are more than plenty in South County) who is used to bland non-descript food this place "might" work for you but otherwise it is extremely unlikely to win you ever. read more

Was looking for Chinese food so drove to this plaza to try it out. Yelp and Google said they closed at 830pm, we arrived at 8pm and they were already closed. Extremely disappointing. However, this led us to try TK burgers!!! We didn't want to drive around since it was pretty late, so we drove into the next open restaurant that was in the plaza. So glad we did. The interior is very cool. The whole ceiling was decorated, restrooms had license plates from all over, tiki stools etc. You can sit on a booth, tables or bar seating (no bar, just high seats). You order at the counter, pay and they bring the food to you. Self service soda station. They have a wall full of self serve condiments! Not sure why this place was not highly rated on Yelp and was hesitant but it turned out to be amazing and we'll definitely start coming here regularly. The cheeseburgers, fries, tater tots, onion rings were all perfectly cooked. I recommend the rib eye steak burger, it was delicious. Everything is served on paper plates. Nothing fancy but o so yummy. You clean your own table afterwards by throwing everything in the trash. I loved the buns that the burgers are made in. Plump and soft. solid classic OC burger joint. first time here so tried the big bargain cheeseburger combo (cheeseburger and fries). added a drink and it was under $14 with tax. fair price. big 4" bun and nicely toasted. burger had a good char flavor and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. the sauce didn't overpower the meat which was decently seasoned. could have a little juicier (charbroiling dries out the patty vs. a flat top). but overall a good burger. fries were crispy and have a coating on it. nice. would be back. a solid place. reminds me of the classic indie burger places like astro burger in hollywood and hi hi cheeseburger in south pasadena. never a bad thing. read more

While running some errands in Mission Viejo around lunchtime, I was listening to a podcast with Hawaiian political wonk Tulsi Gabbard which reminded me of this Hawaiian-surf themed burger place. It's located a bit out of view on a side street off La Paz Road and suddenly became my lunch destination. Both the exterior and interior are old and worn and in need of a deep cleaning. But hey, the prices are great! I ordered a cheeseburger, tots, and a chocolate milkshake. Everyone behind the counter was friendly and even delivered my order to my table when it was ready (normally they just call out your number and you pick it up). While waiting I I was amused by the Hawaiian decor and the numerous surf related record album sleeves that were plastered all over the ceiling, the faded colors showing their age. The cheeseburger had fresh, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, some sort of sauce, and delicious pickles along with the melted cheese that topped the medium-well done burger (I requested no onions). It had good flavor and the bun was fresh although slightly bigger than it need be. The tots were crisp on the outside, hot and soft inside, and - oddly - lacking flavor other than the oil in which they sat in the deep fryer. These tots were extremely oily, soaking the paper plate they were delivered on. I only ate a few, which was enough, as I think it was time to change the oil in the deep fryer. Although it's not the best in the world they do make a darn tasty milkshake. TK Burgers is an okay spot for a burger if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Prices are expensive for the quality. They charged 50 cents extra for cheddar which they lump on top (no melting) and doesn't taste as real cheese. Breakfast omelettes, Denver and Vegetarian, were over cooked and topped with cheese food. The hashbrowns were also overcooked: burnt on bottom and top. The bread tasted liked the loaf you can find for 99c. It also fell apart like styrofoam . We won't be back. read more
