Dr. Liao was very fun, attentive, and engaging with our 7 year old daughter. He is kind and easy to talk to. Dr. Liao took the time to explain the causes of eczema as well as the many different types of treatments available. He listened to everything we needed to say and responded empathetically. We are beyond pleased with his bedside manner, his patient education, and his warm personality. Our family felt very cared for and listened to. We also felt that he made the treatment plan feel collaborative and wanted all of us to fully understand the pros and cons. We would highly recommend Dr. Liao to everyone. Only went once to see him as a recommendation from my ENT and I thought he was very nice and thorough. Did skin prick test at ENT's office already so had that all ready to go. Talked about my allergies which have gotten worse with age plus exercise-induced asthma and he recommended allergy shots for my big main irritants. I also got a new emergence inhaler. Been doing shots every week in Huntington Beach and the woman there is amazing! Glad I found him and the HB place. So far so good. read more

Wow. What a waste of time. Dr. Otto Liao, supposedly a specialist, will not do anything beyond his preset little box of ABC cookie cutter solutions. He doesn't care if you are affected by mold species other than what he can only test for. He doesn't care that you have allergic reactions to "other" types of mold. He's very cookie-cutter. He might as well be Dr. CDC. There are 11 different mycotoxins from 40+ mold species, a fact which he was not aware of. Mycotoxins can cause allergic reactions ranging from cold and flu symptoms, to serious ailments, like migraines, immune problems, body aches, sleep problems. He doesn't care. It was almost laughable. He won't refer you to a lab that will give him a broader scope about your condition...he just wants to go home after an eight hour day, call it a day, and be part of the well organized, for-profit medical establishment that doesn't really care about patients. He's typical of most doctors in the medical industry, unfortunately. I very clearly told him that I will go through his process, follow his steps and have him guide me. If we cannot find the source of my problems with the knowledge he has, I merely asked for a referral for a urine test at a more thorough Diagnostic Lab, that can test for other types of mold allergies that he doesn't normally test for. Sounds fair, right? He said no. What a joke!!! Go home and enjoy your Mercedes and your $2 million house, Dr., while your patients suffer because of your willful blindspots! I've been dealing with allergies and asthma all my life and was referred by my primary to Dr. Liao to consider allergy immunotherapy. I did a virtual consultation, then had to come in for allergy testing twice - 2 separate panels, then had another virtual call to go over my results, then had a blood allergy test, then another consultation. During my second call with Dr. Liao he said that my skin was sensitive and the results from the first two tests (took time off work for each test) were not fruitful and that I would have to do a blood test to get more accurate results. Unsure why the nurse who performed the test didn't realize the results were from my sensitive skin as my whole back was lit up... anyways, I finally got my results to my allergens - same as the results from 10 years ago- and I could proceed with allergy shots if needed. This office wasted my time to give me the results I already knew just to be considered for allergy testing- total nightmare. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

She was never in the office when I would call, then instead of calling me back, she would mail me a bill, which still didn't explain why I had one. WOULD NOT recommend. His office never answers their phone during business hours. It's like, who TF works here? It's a business, answer your phones. Also, if you're considering getting allergy shots here, I would highly encourage you to look elsewhere. The hours posted for shots are only on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, while closed for lunch between 11:30 am-1:00 pm, and closed on Wednesdays and Fridays. Garbage hours. I was hyperventilating outside because of outdoor allergies if it was windy and literally felt like I was sick for six months straight started the allergy shots within two months felt significantly better. Small improvement to now I'm over a year. Haven't had any symptoms for over 67 months I don't take allergy medicine anymore, I just go once every two weeks for a shot read more

It is like one size it all type of care. wasted my copay every single time. they made us come before testing, testing, after and i have to pay for copay even in person or over the phone. i mean. can't you just send an email for the universal treatment plan: shot injection after all pills are fail. Dr. Liao and his staff are awesome! My kids have been going to him for years and they always enjoy their check-ins, as well. Dr. Liao is very good at making the kids feel comfortable and explaining their results in ways they easily understand. Listen to the bad reviews and find another Doctor. I was told I was unable to see Dr. Liao as a new patient in person. I had to do a telemedicine appointment which made me weary because how could he listen to my lungs. During the telemedicine appointment I was told testing needed to be done and then he would see me to go over the results. I got charge $250 for maybe 5 minutes on the phone. What a scam. When talking to billing and trying to figure out why I was being charge for and to make a payment, Denise hung up on me. Horrible experience with booking, the doctor and billing. read more

UNETHICAL BILLING PRACTICES + MALPRACTICE!!! This office keeps billing us for visits that have already been settled up. Each time I got a bill, I've provided the backup documentation and cancelled checks... and spent a good deal of time collecting that information to account for our payments for my daughter's dates of service. Still, I keep receiving bills for the same dates I've paid for. Not once, but around 8 or 9 times. And because I made it clear that I DON'T pay twice for bills we've paid, now they are sending texts to my daughter and harassing her. My next step will be to file a complaint with the Medical Board of California and to consult with our attorney. We are done, and this WILL stop. The crazy thing is my daughter stopped seeing Dr. Liao a long time ago because his treatment stopped working and actually caused her longer term sinus damage (and subsequent jaw issues) that she now has to have surgically corrected by her ENT. Whenever I tried to speak with Denise live about the error, she either wasn't there or never responded. She just kept sending the same bill again and again. Ineptness at its finest. Don't come here if you planned on being ignored by some of the staff, because they are too busy gossiping about their personal lives. I literally stood there in the front desk only to be acknowledged when asked for my copay. I made two office visits took about 10 mins max for the doctor examine/diagnosed. This review is long overdue. Dr. Liao is wonderful. I have been seeing him for allergy shots since late 2012. About 2 years ago, before the allergy shots really began to kick in, I was suffering pretty bad during my first full-blown Southern California allergy season. He put me on flonase and another nose-spray with steriod, which together really did the trick. My entire sinuses were stuffed up so badly, I was missing work, and his staff got me in for an emergency last minute appointment. The nasal sprays brought me relief in a couple of days. Life saver! Every year, my seasonal and daily allergy and asthma symptoms get a lot easier to deal with. Dr. Liao's staff will try to get me in for a last minute appointment when I'm suffering, even when they are super busy. I've never sought treatment for any kind of skin allergies, just allergy shots for pollen/dust mites etc. His staff is great as well, usually they are very friendly and helpful. They've helped me to understand how my allergy symptoms are affected by the weather, such as Santa Ana winds. I have been to both their Tustin and Huntington Beach offices, and both are great. read more

This is regarding how much they charged for the services. We were told they charge 150 for each test for cash paying patients. So we paid $150 each time we got tested. Now they sent a bill for another $120.00 for the same tests. We have paid their office $651 out of pocket so far for the doctor to tell us to take Allegra. I'm sure he could have easily diagnosed that my son's case was very minor and it should be just managed with over the counter allergy pills from the beginning. But after two tests and paying for everything on time out of pocket, they are still billing me. I am certain the services he provided was not worth almost $800. read more

This is the first time I've ever written a review before, but I'm so frustrated wit TLC Allergy and Asthma Associates that I wanted to warn others about the experience they could have. My issues started when they were finally able to schedule me for allergy testing, which I understand did take a while since they were waiting to hear from my insurance. They then scheduled me to do two rounds of testing two days in a row, which I had to take time off of work to do. After I'd already set aside time in my work schedule, they called me and said they needed to change the appointments because allergy testing shouldn't be done back-to-back. I'd wondered about that, but assumed that the person making the appointment with me would have known the right timing to make...apparently not. Then, it comes to billing. I paid my co-pays on the days of the appointment and was told that was all I would owe. Then I receive emails about more money being owed. I call them back (twice) to finally reach billing, who lets me know it looks like an error occurred in my account and it will be fixed promptly. One week later, I receive the exact same "error" bill, which obviously hasn't been fixed. I had a decent experience with the actual allergy testing process, but as for the office process itself? I would never go back again or recommend this buisness to others because of the various hoops and hurdles I'm still trying to go through just to settle my account. read more

My 7 year old has suffered from severe allergies most of his life, and we have seen 3 different allergists over the years. Dr. Liao is fantastic in that he is very knowledgable and a great physician and also a kind, friendly person. He seems to truly care about his patients and my son loves going to his office, which says a lot. His staff has always been friendly, professional and sweet with my son, as well. If you have asthma, this is not the doctor to see. I went in because I was having a prolonged asthma attack during "peak week." The doctor said my breathing function hadn't changed much so he couldn't help me- he didn't acknowledge that my breathing hadn't changed much based on using my inhaler every 3 hours and making myself dizzy trying to blow into his machine. I left his office very upset and with zero help. I went to urgent care where they gave me steroids, a steroid shot and a breathing treatment. It helped, I ended up with pneumonia and needing antibiotics. I think he only cares to see people who need allergy shots- that's how he makes money. read more

Rush from work to get shot which they say last shot is at 4:45pm. Get there at 4:44pm try to open door and its closed. I call and they say it closed. I told them i got there before and knocked and tried to open door and they said they closed at 4:45pm which is not true. At 4:53pm two of the girls walk out to put their stuff in their car and walk back in. Missed my shot for the week. read more

I go to Dr. Liao for my asthma. Unfortunately, having lived in great air quality in quiet mountain towns my whole life, moving to CA has really impacted the severity of my condition. Went back for some skin prick tests... first test was fine. Went back for second... didn't feel like I was being pricked that hard. After 20 minutes nothing came through, so she redid the histamine but none of the other pricks then claimed I didn't respond to anything??? Well if the histamine didn't work how do we know the other skin pricks didn't get through. The 3rd test the same thing happened. Confused me. The first test I had allergies and the histamine functioned properly. This made sense to me. The others didn't. Then the dr came in and told me to take allergy pills and a nose spray.... really?!?!! I do! They don't work. I'm still miserable! Why do I even try.! read more

I saw Dr.Otto for my chronic hives. I told him about my symptoms and showed my blood test results and allergy test results. I hoped that he could do further investigation on my case, but what he said was that he couldn't do anything further because my test results did not show anything specific. So it looks like that he doesn't want to see patients with sophisticated, idiopathic urticaria symptoms. read more

I'm shocked and sad to read these bad reviews. We had such a great experience with Dr. Liao. After hmmming and hawwing for years about getting the little tike tested for allergies, I finally gave in and made an appointment. My biggest fear was that the other patients would hear my kid screaming her head off and crying bloody murder as she was getting poked. The doctor sat patiently with my girl and calmly explained to her (and nervous me) what he would be testing for and what the pokes would feel like: just a little scratch and then a slight burn if she was allergic. I don't know if it was his calming voice or his hypnotic eyes but she eventually relaxed and got through the whole procedure. As the bumps started coming up, the doc studied each poke and explained to us what she was allergic to (and not allergic to): pollen, grass, weeds...just to name a few. Afterwards we were given copies of her paperwork and sent on our way. We love Dr. Liao and would definitely recommend our friends to his practice. read more

My family has been seeing Dr. Otto Liao since 2008. Several family members have severe food allergies that lead to anaphylaxis. His office is great! The front office staff have always been courteous (they must have fired the psycho blonde lady mentioned in other reviews) and the office itself is extremely clean. Dr Liao takes his time to explain things well, and his gentle bedside manner helps my children relax. My children have all been through the allergy skin testing panel with Dr Liao and it was remarkably easy and "tear-free" for them. My husband also sees Dr Liao and feels his care has been top-notch. :) read more

Just an FYI, I have been taking my 10-year-old son to see Dr. Liao for about 4 years at the Laguna Hills and Ladera Offices. There really isn't a receptionist that just sits there, but the girls that give the shots just come up and check to see if someone signed in. Patti is the lovely lady that has made the biggest difference in my little boys life. He was scared to death to get shots. She was so good to him, and so patient and caring, that he was able to get through the really tough first several times. Now, he is a pro and after a year and a half we are even able to have a dog (hypoallergenic) thanks to her skill in working with kids. Thank you Patti and Dr. Liao! read more

This practice deliberately scheduled three appointments for what should have been two. With no explanation. I drove 35 minutes, and delivered a $15 co-pay, only to wait 20 minutes for a 5 minute interview where i was told to return for the test itself. The test requires no preparation that i wasn't already set for. I see this as a tactic to extort an additional payment from myself and my insurance company. Other than the needless extra appointment, the service, facilities, and expertise was excellent. read more

I made an appointment to see Dr. Liao to get a test for my food allergies. I was sent paperwork to save time and drove all the way to Tustin to get tested. Dr. Liao came in and looked over the paperwork and told me about the test that I would be receiving then left. Then someone else came in and ushered me out to make another appointment for the test. Really?!!! Couldn't I be tested at the same time? It's not like it's some special test you have to order. The only reason I could think of is Dr. Liao needs to make more money from me and the insurance companies so he stretches out your visits. And though I did like Dr. Liao and his staff, I won't be going back because of this. I believe it's deceitful to patients and the insurance companies and it makes me question what his treatment will be. Will he fully want to cure you or want you to continue to see him so he can charge you for more appointments? read more
