The visit was fine. I needed a hair cut while visiting Pax River NAS. I asked for certain lengths on the sides and back of my hair, and the barber cut it the way they wanted to cut it. This isn't terribly abnormal for barbershops outside of military locations. They're used to cutting hair in a certain style, and any deviation just doesn't compute. All in all, it was a little bit shorter than I wanted, but it was OK. There was a pretty decent line, so my guess is it's a popular place. read more

Located near the gate 2 of NAS PAX river, this place is a small shop which has been servicing military and civilian alike for several years. I tried super cuts, sports clips, and studio Jelena while looking for the right barber. I was recommended to stop by and give them a chance, so I did. I think through the year I have gotten haircuts by everybody and always my hair came out looking great! Besides the price cannot be beaten! Need a cut, you gotta try this place out! read more

I know there are a couple less than 5 star reviews...you can't please everyone in today's age of entitlement. At Toby's it doesn't matter which chair you sit in, you get a good cut. Amazing place to get your haircut. They accept appointments and are always on time with them. They don't accept credit cards so it's cash only. Great pricing compared to other local barbers. Kim and Susan are by far the absolute best at their profession as well as always smiling when they greet me and others as they walk in. Toby's is located in an office park, next to a deli, a Chinese restaurant, and various military contractors. It's really just a barber shop for military personnel. I've been a few times, and never gotten a haircut I'm happy with. The worst was when I got a small mark accidentally shaved in the back of my head that I didn't realize was there until someone told me. Or perhaps when I asked one haircutter to give me a "pretty short" haircut, and when I realized she was just giving me a trim, and not a haircut, she said I should've asked for a short haircut, and complained that I was getting TWO HAIRCUTS. This is compounded by the fact that it's cash only. One more reason not to go back, I guess. To be fair, I've only gone to Toby's because the barber across the street (formerly Jay's, now MJ's) is closed on Mondays. read more

I've been going there for years and years. Sook has been my barber since November 2002 when she worked at the NEX on PAXR base. I continued to follow her to Toby's and stayed with her -- and then she bought Toby's over ten years ago. Never been disappointed! Always a friendly smile and has fit me in whenever I needed a haircut. I have been losing my hair over the last twenty years and she has accommodated my changing locks to give me the best look possible. She uses a straight razor to cut the hair on the back of your head and around the ears. They can even give you a razor shave, if requested. She has trimmed my beard, my moustache, and now my goatee/van dyke. I don't know if they still do it, but I've had my hair shampooed prior to my haircut before. Sook has even cut my grandson's hair, including his very first haircut...no more curls! Now HE has been going to her for years, too. I recommend her all the time. She FINALLY raised her prices over the years, which is a wonderful testament to her customers that she held off for so long. read more

Great barber shop. Its hard to find a good shop that does straight razor "head" shaves, but this place does! Nice warm lather, smooth shave, relaxing scalp message. It is just outside a military base so time it out right and you can walk in and get a seat. Lunch hrs and closing hrs will most likely be busy. Go during the morning and it should be a pleasant visit. Good prices and good conversation! Found my new weekly relaxation spot. read more

Horrible Custer service, the sign says walk ins welcomed. They had two barbers working with only two other customers there and told be me I had to come back another day because they were to busy! It was 5pm and they close at 6pm, I guess it takes a hour per haircut!!! read more

I've been getting my hair cut here for almost a year now and I wish I'd heard about them sooner. I usually have Sook (or Adele if she's not available) cut my hear every time. Both of them do an amazing job and clean up the back of my neck with a straight razor and warm shaving cream afterwards. They offer a military discount (although I often leave a tip and end up paying full price anyways). They only accept cash, but even that I don't consider a drawback. Being located right outside Gate 2 makes it a very convenient location for military personnel. read more
