Nice little neighborhood shop, I was greeted when I walked in by a gentleman behind the counter, I don't know if it was the owner. He was busy packaging some things up. I walked through the store and checked out the various teas, sections are well labeled and the little tea jars are a nice touch so you can see/smell the product. Bags are mostly one or four ounces, and there's a description on the bag too. The prices are a bit on the higher side, however there were some sale items available. The overall shopping experience was okay, I was just a bit surprised that since I was the only customer there at the time that I wasn't asked if I needed any assistance as I wandered about. Stepping out from behind the counter would have been a nice personal touch, or at least a shout out, but nothing. The idea of shopping at a shop like this is for that personal attention, and service, that is what you pay a little extra for. Easy street parking, although metered. I parked on a side street for free, short walk. The parking lot to the side belongs to the funeral home, signs are posted but they're not that large. Hubby and I constantly pass through "Todd & Holland Tea Merchants" because one of our favorite ice cream shops is just a couple blocks down on the same street. I don't really call myself a tea connoisseur, but I'm certainly a tea lover. Well, if you love being "teased" by tea, you're in for a treat! They offer different types of tea all around the world and at various price points. You can either go for the "$60 for a single ounce" foreign, luxurious kind, or you can pick up some blended ones for less than ten (10) bucks. Leaf samples are available for customers to "sniff," and you will probably get high because of these pleasant aromas. There's a "sampling station," where I saw the owner was educating the patrons about the tea brewing. It's a pretty large store, considering this as a local business in downtown Forest Park. They also carry high-quality teapots, thermos, tea ball diffusers, tea making machines, and just teaware in general. Workers there seemed quite friendly, and helpful if you have specific questions about tea. While we really were just browsing, we couldn't resist and bought the "pink grapefruit" and one of the camomile tea blends. Downtown Forest Park on Madison Street is full of small businesses that I absolutely adore! Whenever I'm in the area, I will surely stop in and look for something new that I haven't tried. read more

This shop is a long time favorite of mine. The teas are wonderful, unique and varied. I have a number of them in my "tea cabinet" (black, oolong, green, tisane, decaff) & also give them as gifts. Any number of them are simply my favorite teas! My sister introduced me to their teas years ago, and then brought me in with her...such a pleasure! I stop there whenever I can. I do live on the city's northside, so I don't get there as often as I'd like. But this holiday I ordered a gift assortment for my niece online, and was able to enjoy their wonderful store in a different way. Beautiful shop right in downtown Forest Park on Madison St. The shop is bright and airy with shelves of everything from preserves and honey to decorative mugs and teapots. Customer service was wonderful. I picked up 4 teas and have already tried two of them! The Spicy Pumpkin Chai was delicious and perfect for the fall weather. And I have to say, I had T&H's Irish Breakfast tea recently at a dinner at North Pond Restaurant, and it was the best Irish Breakfast tea I've ever had. So, of course, I had to make a trek to Forest Park to check out their store, and I absolutely adored it. First, I love that it's an independently owned store, located on the quaint downtown small-business retail strip of Forest Park. This is the best smelling shop in town! A jar of lavender-infused honey caught my eye in their window display today. I am not a huge tea drinker- I get by on plain old Barry's Irish tea bags- so I have never visited this shop thinking it only sold loose teas. I popped in and found so much more! There are loads of teas- and I got to taste a few at the free tasting station- including a delicious blueberry blend. Oh my. I'll come back for that when I have more time to learn how to actually brew real tea that is not already in a tea bag. Today I went home instead with a lovely hand-thrown Celtic knot pottery dish from Prince Edward Island in Canada. Plus locally-made Rare Bird preserves, a lavender-white chocolate scone mix and that lavender infused honey. I stopped in during a Friday afternoon stroll and got a first-class lesson in a number of teas! I had so much fun in there I didn't want to leave. There were hot and cold teas on a table that made up a sort of "tea tasting". It was great! As a seasonal/flower/plant allergy sufferer, I expressed this and was immediately directed towards teas that are claimed to help with this. I was also given an article on the benefits of Rooibos for allergy sufferers. This has become my new favorite tea! Hi, my name is not Todd; I am not Dutch either. I just love tea. Even if it's pretty anti-patriotic of me.... Because it is. My duty as a French citizen is to drink strong coffee and despise the hot water that our arch enemies on the other side of the Channel drink religiously at 5 o'clock with scones, lemon curd and clotted cream. I guess I am just a traitor. I am fine with it. Todd & Holland make a wonderful job feeding my un-patriotic inclination. They carry a great selection of concoctions, clearly categorized by color codes: herbal, white, green, black and red - you are sure to find the brew that's right for you. I walked out yesterday with a mighty selection of five, including my new favorite, Heirloom Pearl. I usually don't go gaga over a cup of flavored water but rules are meant to be bent....this Taiwanese blend of oolong tea, lemon myrtle and marigold petals managed to get out of me a sigh of deep satisfaction I normally reserve to a good glass of Malbec. Yep. That good. They sell your fix pre-packaged (three different sizes) or in bulk; the average price is around $6 per ounce. Tons of cups, tea pots, towels and gadgets. Wonderful, wonderful tea selections for both hot & iced tea aficionado's of which I'm both. As I write this review, I'm drinking from a pot of lovely Tisane Party Pear which is a delicious blend of pear, pineapple, papaya, mango, date, fig bits, rose, sunflower, blue mallow blossoms and red currants. Except for tea in China, it doesn't get better anywhere in the USA than Todd & Holland Merchants. Having happily sipped tea from all over Great Britain, Europe, Egypt, and throughout Asia, I'd take T&H tea any day of the week. Tea doesn't get better than theirs. First, for tea in a flash, and with little fanfare, the shop has a few nice tea pouches to brew for delicious iced tea. Although not their premier tea makers recommendation, these pouches do their tea premier tea justice without adding ugly chemicals, preservatives, sugar and/or fake sweetener. Never will you be stuck with a bitter and flat glass of iced tea. That said, I've never tasted a better iced tea than iced tea made from these pouches, in my entire life! My favorites are (and I drink them year-round) are: Peach Iced Tea in Gallon Tea Pouches Passion Fruit Iced Tea in Gallon Tea Pouches Island Mango Iced Tea in Gallon Tea Pouches Black Savannah Sipper 8 cup pouches/4 pitchers of awesome tea! Black Aladdin's Love 8 cup pouches/4 pitchers of awesome tea! Just as amazing, and some would say better, perhaps because it's more time consuming to fresh brew, is their Iced Tea Estate Blend. A mix of Ceylon, Nilgiri and Darjeeling black teas - these loose leaves make an amazingly delicious, smooth and flavorful glass of iced tea! What I love best about the teas at Todd & Holland, is they are best alone. Unless you feel you have to add milk or the tea has to be super sweet, there is nothing you need to add to the tea except water. Not only is tea a healthy drink, it's delicious! If you don't have any tea "supplies" the staff will help you. They have everything imaginable there and the prices are fair. Tea isn't dirt cheap, but neither is anything that's a quality product. I could write a book of how great this place is. Not being very accessible to lets say, Hong Kong or Beijing, it's great to have a local place that's relatively easy to get to from Chicago and surrounding suburbs! read more

Todd & Holland... Sounds familiar? Well, I heard of them as a catalog company long before I realized their shop was in my neighborhood. What a quaint little shop this is too. It has orderly shelves of loose leaf tea with cute little jars for smelling. Along one side, there is counter always laden with a freshly brewed carafe. The employees are friendly and eagerly suggest you help yourself to a mug (not a paper cup!) of tea while you browse. Other shelves and tables have a cornucopia of tea-related products. I saw their sign while on the way to another store, and asked my dearest if we could double back and hop in. Upon entering, we were greeted cheerfully and offered a tea tasting in chic, 8oz glass cups--a wonderful way to start my shopping experience! The store has a wonderful selection of tea accessories--teapots and tea cups galore! After much deliberation (as they have a wondrous and lovely selection), I got a beautiful Beehouse teapot, which I love and use every day. They also have a large selection of loose teas. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to go through and smell everything, but I did fall in love with Summer Solstice tea, so I got a packet. I really appreciated the help I got from the older gentleman employee. Well, for all I know, he could be one of the owners. At any rate, the service was very personable and attentive. He answered all of my questions and even related some very interesting tea stories with me! He really made me fall in love with the place! I would definitely encourage other tea lovers to visit this tea store. They do have an online store, but I found more items in the actual store than there are online. read more

It's a very charming quaint place where you can find ALL sorts of teas, but my only hesitation to keep purchasing tea here, is mostly because of two important values: -whether their teas (or any) are organic when I called them they said the tease they have that are organic can't be labeled so because the company won't guarantee they're organic....?? -whether they are fair trade (better for the producer and environment) also, while on the phone they were unaware of what fair trade is, the woman who answered the phone said she would have them manager call me back and let me know if they indeed carried fair trade tea, I left my number but never got a call back Todd & Holland, please catch up with the rest of the movement to create a better, more sustainable world. read more

This is the most delightful Tea store ever! They have a wide variety of flavors and accessories. There are little jars for you to open to get a sense of the tea flavor. The options for tea sizes are many. The owner and his wife were there and the staff is very helpful as well. Inside it is a virtual superstore of fine teas from the around the world, packed in small individually-labeled, airtight envelopes and sold in a few different sizes. You can find almost any tea you have ever heard of here; they direct import and their selection shows. They do brew up a few teas for customers to sample. If you have questions about certain teas, they may offer to brew you a bit to try. He had us sample a sencha, and it opened my eyes to Japanese green tea, which I drink daily now. This place is a little overwhelming. I buy some of my teas from SpecialTeas, and I think they sell some of them, some of the herbals look familiar. I could of easily bought all their oolongs, but just tried the milk oolong, which I can not wait to try!!! I love the sample area, with real glass cups to carry around the store. That's real classy! I only wish there were more I could sample. I do have a request, that they make sample portions available for their teas to buy, like 5-10 grams. They are on the pretty expensive side, and just smelling the tea doesn't really give me an idea how it tastes, since the smell in some teas is very misleading! very cute tea shop in downtown forest park. during the record-breaking heatwave, i walked by and saw a sign for cold iced tea samples so decided to walk in. they had a couple different samples of cold brewed tea available. i tried the japanese cherry which was fruity and refreshing, but not overly sweet. i also had a cup of the spiced tea which had strong notes of cinnamon and other herbs/spices. both were great with ice cubes and gave me a much needed reprieve from the heat. the lady who was helping me was extremely kind and friendly, explaining the tea flavours to me and telling me about the store's other offerings. they offer a large selection of tea, tea-ware (kettles, tea cup sets), and other tea accessories. i really like this store and highly recommend it to anyone who is strolling around downtown forest park. read more

Todd & Holland is a quaint and very elegant little tea shop in Forest Park with an excellent selection of tea accessories and products. Really beautiful teapots, kettles, and gadgets for those serious about tea. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable about the products they sell. My problem with T&H is how pricey their teas are. Many are double what you'd pay at other tea stores and none are organic or fair trade certified. They have a wide tea selection and jars with samples to smell each one which is good, and the tea is overall good quality but not exceptional and certainly not worth the price. Loose leaf tea was on my Christmas shopping list this year. Since I'm tea illiterate, I had no idea what was good, but had the good sense to find this place. This was a wonderful experience. Very helpful staff, little jars everywhere so you could sniff the tea and get an idea of aroma, and a large selection of teas as well as some infusers and pots. The atmosphere is very pleasant. I started off shopping for a friend, but eventually started shopping for myself as well. They had two sample teas available - brilliant of them to do so, because after downing my second cup, I immediately added one of them to my purchase. It was so good. The place is a bit pricey, I'll give you that. But the quality of the product and the service is just outstanding. To me, that's worth it. I'm definitely going back soon. read more

I dropped in after a long walk around the neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised by the cool atmosphere this place has. I was acknowledged as soon as I stepped in through the door. And I had no trouble finding a gift for a tea connoisseur because of the extended selections of tea. The woman that took care of me was super nice (Terry) and they even did a complimentary gift wrap. This place is where I learned to really love tea. I drank grocery store teas before I saw an article on rooibos and decided to surprise my S. African boyfriend who was a little homesick. This was back in the 90s before rooibos was a grocery store tea. I walked into this little place and the staff basically started my education on the spot. We eventually moved to Oak Park and I ended up in this shop 3-6 times a year. Each time someone would be talking about a different type of tea or a different method of brewing tea and handing out samples. These weren't formal classes, just what the owners do all day every day when they are in the shop (seems to be less often now that they are older). This was where I tasted my first properly brewed oolong and learned about the different styles of black tea and the effects of different types of teapots. They do have flavored teas as some remarked, but you will find an astounding diversity of single estate teas, many of which Bill bought directly from the producers on one of his many overseas shopping trips. This means that they have teas you won't find elsewhere. Not everyone of their teas will be your favorite, but they will work with you and help you sample teas until you find those that you can't live without. If you read tea reviews or blogs, you'll see their teas mentioned (especially their double bergamot Earl Grey). That rooibos-drinking boyfriend has been my husband for over a decade and we have moved five times since those first days, but there are still bags of tea from Todd and Holland in my tea cabinet. Their customer service and efforts at creating educated customers have spoiled me for essentially any other tea shop although I still walk into almost every tea shop I see. Some tea shops ignore you, some assume you know everything and know exactly what to ask for and aren't helpful, and others pressure you to buy and buy more. These guys have hit that sweet spot for customer service and make it a place I try to visit whenever I'm back in the Chicago area. read more

When I went to Teavana for the first time and tried their hyped up sophisticated set up with only at most 30 teas to choose from, I was disappointed. That's because I've been going to Todd and Holland from even before they moved to Forest Park. They have always had dozens of teas to choose from, for those who prefer a classic like English Breakfast or Jasmine to exotic twists on a favorite like Earl Grey with Lavendar to the truly imaginative and out there like their Pear Helene. As someone who drinks a lot of tea, I find myself coming at least several times a year to stock up on favorites and try something new.
