My latest was to arrive - 4-5 weeks after our last appointment with a "we have to redo forms, scan insurance card, drivers license, etc as it's a new year.". Nothing has changed? "Yeah - it's our policy." Really? Policy or complete inefficiency? Inefficiency for sure. I then had to sign 3 printed sheets - (is this 2023? Or 1993?). I received a 3 page receipt which I didn't even need a printed receipt for a $15 copay. Why waste the paper and tree? Why not at least ask me if I wanted or needed? Or even better email if I need it (doubtful). Doctor experience ?- great. Office experience? - terrible.

Being as smart as I am ;-), I knew not to go to my primary physician because they would just send me to the hospital for x-rays. I also knew that if I went to a sports medicine Doctor, they would have an x-ray machine onsite and the doctors specialize in injuries such mine. After some research, and calling around a few places, the DMC Sports Medicine office was accommodating for same day service. The receptionist who answered the phone was so so nice and said she could get me into the office to see Dr. Kakos in the afternoon. As many as you have experienced, the receptionists usually think they are doing us a favor by allowing us to be seen- not a this place. Everyone, including the nurse was very pleasant and helpful. Moving on to Dr. Kakos! He was amazing! He had a great attitude, listened, and very thorough. He explained the pros and cons and how he came to his diagnosis. I am so glad I found a good Doctor that specializes in injuries related to the gym/sports.. etc etc. Also, I was very happy that I didn't wait at all.. I was in and out with a x-ray within 1 hour. If I had gone to the ER, I would have been there for 5-6 hours.

We have known Dr. Soo for quite a few years now and would not consider anyone else for spinal surgery. He is truly a genius and is a very caring doctor. I had a very rare condition in the spinal cord in which Dr. Soo performed an operation. He took the time to research and care for my case personally, above and beyond the call of duty that no other physician would take on. His sense of humor lightens the mood of some potentially bad news. But I assure you, if it can be fixed, he will fix it!!! Both offices are very busy, however, if you are able to book an appointment on a Thursday, I find that the Novi location to be a bit less crowded. You should book your appointment at least a month in advance, or two if you can. To avoid a long wait, you can ask for the first appointment of the day. Just a couple suggestions that are hopefully helpful.

So, as you can see, I felt a dire need for someone to help me. Dr. K was one of the kindest, professionals I have ever met. He really listened and together we agreed on a surgical plan. His office coordinated with me to get all the necessary prior tests completed. His staff is really on top of their game everyday. Every question was answered in a timely fashion. So I felt confident in the process and choice I made. The surgery day came and it did take longer than expected. But the care was never changed, he worked hard on my back to complete a fusion of the 4-5 area. The recovery as he had stated takes some time and a will to get better. It has now been six months and yes I am glad to have had the procedure. I still have a ways to go to reach a one year mark. I am confident I will continue to improve. If you are nervous, worried or in pain, seek a consultation to get a definitive answer to what is happening. Dr. K spends whatever amount of time needed to explain and advise you of his recommendations. I do not believe I have ever had a physician this caring and personable as Dr. K is. So, Move to Success caught my eye because they offer 1-on-1 treatment. Seriously, every appointment is a 1-on-1, just you and a therapist. Mandy is the owner of the company. She has her doctorate from the University of Michigan and is always looking for new technology to help her patients. She is laid-back and light-hearted and treats everyone with compassion and respect. In a climate where insurance companies control patient care, she is not afraid to get creative to exceed expectations. She is a true giver, always making sure her patients and staff are taken care of before she considers her own needs. Kelly also has her doctorate and is as much a teacher as she is an amazing physical therapist. She explains how the activity should be performed, what area of the body it is working and why it will help your specific needs. That said, she is also a very good listener. She wants to know how you are feeling, is willing to alter your exercises to fit your needs, and always has your best interest at heart. Kayla feels like your best friend from the moment you meet her. She is an incredibly effective therapist because she is curious about her patients. She is an engaged and empathetic listener. She will ask you how each exercise feels and has the creativity to modify the position to more effectively suit your circumstances. She will encourage you and celebrate each of your milestones along the way. Alex is a powerhouse. She can hold a conversation on any topic with anybody and is an exceptional therapist with a wide range of knowledge. She reminds me of a personal trainer because she has more energy than anyone should have and is often seen working the exercises along with her patients. She also has an uncanny ability to find your pain center and tame it. Seriously, her manual work is next level. All of these women will not only help you fix whatever is ailing you but they will make you feel like family while doing it. (Good family, not the dysfunctional kind of family.) It's clear that they all love what they do, love who they work with, and love their patients. They are kind, compassionate, thoughtful, respectful, empathetic, and exceptional at making you feel better. Administratively, they take care of everything. They deal with your insurance company. They will send you home with tools to help you feel better and continue working at home. They see all patients from infancy to geriatric. They offer dry needling, cupping, TheraBand, Kinesiotape, therapeutic massage, passive stretching, tens, trigger point release, myofascial release, stretching and strengthening exercises and probably other things that I have forgotten and left out. I should also point out that I have been going there for 3 months and have only done a couple of exercises more than once and usually with some variation. They are just so creative that it never gets repetitive or boring. In conclusion, there is no better place to receive physical therapy than Move to Success.

Some therapists at other places have had me doing exercises basically on my own without their supervision, which is something I can do at home. Dr. Kirk stayed with me and customized the exercises to my abilities. She brought what was a 9-10/10 pain level in my neck and back way down. I'm also a believer in dry needling now! It was surprising how soon I felt the benefits from the first session. I've never had another therapist who is trained in dry needling like Dr. Mandy Kirk is. Finally, I came in one day with pain and fluid in my knee. She worked on it manually and gave me customized exercises that have helped a lot. Highly recommended!

We then get a call from a third party ( the next day) asking us to verify the delivery address for the right knee scooter the dr ordered. Since my husband has a left ankle issue, I obviously didn't verify our address for delivery of room number 4's scooter. Such a disaster. I have been to other clinics for sessions, but Emily has explained in detail my treatment and given me her hands on therapy that has really made a difference. The exercises are precise and her knowledge shows her skilled education. She has also addressed my neck pain after having cervical surgery last September.
