I just had all my wisdom teeth removed by Dr.Carter and the team . I was so nervous and had been putting this off for 10 years. I spent hours reading all the reviews that dr. Carter and the team had online and it made me so much more comfortable knowing the level of expertise they provide. Turns out the reviews couldn't be more true and I had an amazing procedure. From the moment I walked in I was greeted with smiles and comfort and very swift service. I sat down in the chair everything was explained in clear detail and they got right to it so I didn't even have time to be very nervous! Dr cater told me that I would feel the medicine hit me and what felt like 5 sec later I was waking up finished! I'm home laying in bed now at 6pm (procedure was at 830 am) and have still experienced very little to no pain without any pain meds and to be honest I can't believe it and I know this is because dr Carter and his team went above and beyond and did an amazing first class skilled removal of my teeth. Hats off to dr Carter and the whole team (I can't remember any of their names I was to sleepy sorry!) if you have to get your wisdom teeth removed and your nervous about it or have been putting it off do yourself a favor and call Maui oral surgery to get it done you will be in amazing hands! You get what you pay for. Avoid cheap-ass friends telling you to go to Bangkok, Tijuana or Budapest for quick dental work. This is the place to get titanium dental implants (or teeth removal.) It's worth it if you have at least 1 to 30 years of life left. Do not get a dental bridge. I have spent several hours in Dr. Carter and Rasmussen's chairs. Their team is always professional and courteous. Virtually painless... I'm no model, but the dental implants I have are top quality and keep me chewing. read more

I went in yesterday to get a tooth pulled and bone graft for an implant. I've had tons of work done in the last few years between root canals, crowns, a bridge and more. I was pretty nervous as this was a first with the bone graft. I told them I was scared so they took extra time to explain exactly what they were doing, I instantly felt better. Within an hour I was out the door. I expected a lot of pain as the numbing wore off but it never came. I'm still in shock 24 hours later. One ibuprofen yesterday and can eat and sleep. I'm guessing I will be fine at work today talking to many people. Very little seeking and a call from Dr. Carter last night to check on me. I highly recommend him and all the people in his office who are so very kind. read more

My dentist had originally given me a referral to Dr. Rasmussen, but I didn't act on it. He has since retired. So, this year I got a new referral to Dr. Carter. At the age of 50 (!) I went to get all 4 wisdom teeth removed. I was not enthusiastic. During the consult, Dr. Carter explained to risks to nasal passages, nerves, not to mention, of course, pain. He did not mince words, explaining that getting this done at my age is no walk in the park. Long story short, the staff was great, the procedure went smoothly, and now, 2 days later, I have had virtually no swelling, very little tooth or gum pain, and most of the soreness is muscles in my jaw which needed to be wrenched open for a long time to do the procedure. I took a couple Vicodin on days 1 and 2, but am now only on a couple ibuprofen. This has gone amazingly well, and with little pain and discomfort. read more

I made an appointment to get my wisdom teeth out with doctor Todd. At first I was nervous but once I walked into the office the staff greated me and were extremely kind, they made me feel right at home. I didnt wait long at all I was taken to my room right away and was given a blanket to feel more comfortable in the chair. Once we got started the staff explained everything to me and went over my x-rays. I had to get an I.V. which everyone gets nervous about but doctor Todd did it and it didnt hurt at all, he got my vein the first time. Once the procedure was over I woke up painless and once I was well enough to go home they gave me post operative instructions to take with me. Overall my experience was fantastic, I would recommend them to everyone! Dr. Carter and his team are the best. read more

Dr. Todd Carter and his staff are amazing! I needed 2 impacted lower wisdoms, 1 impacted canine, and 1 exposed premolar removed before getting braces. I was deathly afraid to get general anesthesia so we did local anesthesia instead. I barely even felt any of the shots, and I had about 10 given in my mouth! It took about 40 minutes to remove 4 of my teeth and all I felt was pressure, no pain at all. Gail, who assisted Dr. Carter was really sweet and made me feel really calm. I'm very glad I decided to go with local anesthesia instead of general, the entire process was a breeze! Thank you Dr. Carter and the entire staff. I'm one step closer to a perfect smile! read more

Dr. Carter pulled a back molar in one of the worst dental experiences of my life. The only redeeming quality of the visit was the fish tank in the waiting room and his female staff. He was rude, showed no bedside manner, hammered and yanked like no other dentist. I've had 3 other teeth pulled in the last 5 years, and each and every one of them demonstrated awareness about the invasiveness and anxiety of tooth pulling by speaking, moving, and prompting in calm and supportive ways. They showed compassion and care by checking in after the removal, and establishing connection and rapport. Dr. Carter DID NOT do any of these things. Fortunately, his assistant did what she could to make up for his obvious lack of concern for anything but himself. I was nauseated by his brutish and inconsiderate denial of my presence/comfort. One star goes entirely to his staff. read more

I am college student who only got to come home for a little bit and they made sure to get me in for a consultation and my wisdom teeth to be pulled asap the next week. The nurse helping me was so friendly and never made me worry about anything with this being my first surgery of any kind. Dr. Carter even called me personally the night after to make sure I was doing good, amd reminded me to call if anything came up. I had to get 2 wisdom teeth pulled and the tips of another tooth that was broke removed. Appointment was a month out after consultation I was nervous and not looking forward to procedure and recovery. The day came for me procedure and I must say I was worried for nothing Dr. Todd Carter performed the procedure I got put under it took 45 minutes and there was zero pain and no swelling afterwards. Very professional and modern technology excellent friendly service at the front desk highly recommend Dr. Todd Carter. The thing that really showed me that Dr. Carter cared was that I got a phone call from him at 7 the night of the procedure asking me how things were going. Hopefully will never have to see him again but if I need an oral surgeon for anything I will definitely go back to him. read more

My teeth got so bad, because of a traumatic incident as a teen I had this incredible fear. And I worked 2 jobs most of my life with no real schedule of brushing. The time came to see a dentist, what I did was I walked in the door to any dentist. If I was not greeted nicely or the people acted like they were just there because, "It's just a job" attitude. I would say thank you, grab a business card and leave. Thus I found Dr. Lau across Wailuku post office. I was then told I needed the expertise of an Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon. They refereed me to Dr. Carter. I did the same thing, walked in and Mellissa & Maggie were at the counter, both very kind greeted me with smiles and spoke to me as if they were interested. So I Gave Dr. Lau the ok. Still nervous, but you can tell Dr. Russmisen & Dr. Carter seem genuine that they love what they do & they care.They are a few doors down from Bamboo Grill in Wailuku. I had an initial consultation with Todd Carter, DMD, regarding an implant. I waited a bit more than an hour to be seen and was taken back to an examination room. There Dr. Carter advised, after reviewing my X-rays, that I had plenty of bone, the sinus cavity was not a problem, and the procedure would be routine ("a dentist's dream"). He quoted me a price and advised that he does not modify his prices even if other certified implant dentists are less expensive. His charge, verified with his assistant Maggie, was $800 more than my regular certified dentist. That works out to well more than $200 per hour for his time more than my regular dental office. Now if he can get such an outrageous fee for his services then I cannot blame him. Clearly, it is all about the money. However, I think a lot of patients are simply unaware of the huge disparity. I am choosing to go to my regular practice, which has considerable experience with such implant procedures, and would be doing the crown anyway. I think information is good for all consumers and I hope this helps those who would like to keep $800 of their own money. read more

I was referred to Dr. Carter & Dr. Rasmussen office for a tooth extraction and implant consultation after their office called back and confirmed acceptance of my Dental insurance I accepted the appointment. I arrived at 1;30 pm for a 2 pm appointment, the office was clean and staff was not attentive as they appeared to be eating snacks and taking to each other at the front desk when I arrived (possibly late lunch or break), but after a few minutes they acknowledged me and issued me 1st time paperwork as usual and everything was well. After 2 hrs of waiting I inquired about the delay and asked if I had my appointment time incorrect. I was told that they were running behind, so I asked how much longer as I had just one other appointment at 6 pm in Lahaina. They only stated that they just sent in the 1 pm appointment and would not give me an exact time-frame. I stated that I was able to continue to wait until seen, but I would have to be out of the office by 5 pm to make it to Lahaina by 6 pm. I must state that I felt it It was very to not even be informed of any delay by the staff after such a long delay. I was called back at 4:30 PM and awaited Dr. Carter. He did a visual exam and I inquired about the extraction and implant coverage by my insurance carrier and my expected out of pocket cost. It was then that I was surprisingly informed that their office did not accept my insurance carrier, but would submit cost to my carriers for me! What, I explained that I only accepted the consultation appointment after his office confirmed the acceptance of my insurance carrier! To which Dr. Cater and his office denied, so I played them the voice message on my phone clearly stating the insurance carrier and their office acceptance. Needless to say at this point everyone was in hurry,but only to get me out of the office. I was rushed out, not even given an x-ray that 2 minutes prior I was told would be needed to give me an exact exam and analysis for the work and cost. Dr. Carter left the room and stated that his assistant would let me know of the estimate for the tooth extraction, etc. I was led to the exit door at the front desk and given a cost of tooth extraction to be $575 and the implant work to be another $2,500 (not including crown) and that I would have to return to my 1st dentist for the crown work. I stated that this was a lot of money for me to come out of pocket on and await reimbursement or partial reimbursement on and asked again what about the insurance coverage issue? The assistant and the front desk girls said and I quote" That why we don't accept t Cigna dental, we don't want to wait for a portion of our fee either." So I assume because Dr. CArter & Dr. Rasmussen did not receive enough reimbursement back from costs submitted to insurance, they would rather have the patient bear the burden, risk and all pain associated. I get it, but to say it so cold and heartless was stunning to me. I called two other dentist office one right next door one 2 miles away and was quoted $250 max for the extraction and so I had it completed and it wound up only costing $188 due to less time in removal than what was quoted. The implant and crown work was also done elsewhere and I did pay out of pocket and have it reimbursed by Cigna, but my whole out of pocket was only $1,500 including the toot extraction. So my recommendation. Go to another Dentist office. You will SAVE Time, Money, Pain, and patience! This one is not professional or moral in any sense of the term. read more
