Yo! My crown came off while eating on the plane to Maui. Super stressful! It wasn't painful but it made eating uncomfortable and didn't seem like a good idea for my vacation. I had Wi-Fi so I searched up emergency dentist" in Kahului even though I was going to West Maui. This place looked good and super close to the airport. While I was still on my flight, they told me they could squeeze me in when I landed. Meanwhile I texted them my insurance card and they gave me an appointment and said if I was late I could go between patients. When I got there, I only had to wait a few minutes before I was taken back to see Dr. Lena! She was so nice as was her dental assistant and the receptionists. She saw that in fact it was not only my crown that came off... but also part of my tooth! So she told me to make sure to see my dentist at home when I get home, and she took a picture to send him. Within a few minutes, she had cleaned off my crown and then she carefully and skillfully put it back on and cemented it. And they take Delta Dental! I paid $120 on top of what insurance covered, but it was totally worth it. The errand to come here from the airport only took about 30 minutes, and then I could start vacation. This is an incredibly thorough and responsive office. I'm so glad I found them on Yelp and they could set me up while I was still on the plane. Dr. Lena is super nice also and makes a patient feel at ease. Highly recommended, even if you're not going to start your vacation this way lol! read more

Kahului Dental is the absolute best on Maui! I broke one of my front teeth over the weekend and was pretty bummed. Sierra and Tasha totally hooked me up and got me an appointment next day - huge!! Shaina and Angel were awesome and made me feel super comfortable as soon as I walked in and Dr. Lena was amazing! She took the time to figure out why my tooth broke, explained my options for a repair clearly and in-depth and empowered me to decide how to fix it the best way for me. I am adding to my last review which I don't want to discount because I still believe it to be true. But now I wonder if I should have been getting second opinions. I had a filling a couple years ago, and eventually it started hurting after a while. Everything time I came in, their advice was that eventually it would need a crown, but it would be best to wait until the pain became more consistent because the less you do, the better. So I took their advice, but always made appointments to go back when it bothered me even a little bit to have it checked (since I was worried the filling fell out and to see if they may advise a crown that day). Well, it began hurting more consistently just a few weeks ago, and they still suggested I wait. Three weeks pass and it really began to hurt. I go in, and he said he could see the root, and asked if I wanted to do a crown. I said yes please. They got me in the day before I moved, and now I'm in worse pain than I was in before...and when I messaged them asking what I should do, they said I will probably need a root canal or if I cannot afford that, a tooth extraction...AFTER they put a crown on it? So the dentist, knowing how much pain I was in coming in, could have recommended a root canal. Yes, that would be more expensive, but now, I will have to pay for a root canal AND a new $400 crown??? They also said in their text message that it was due for a crown 2 years ago, but nobody ever advised that. They weren't willing to discount the price knowing the situation they put me in. I feel as if I received poor advice, considering they did not recommend a crown until the pain became more consistent. So yes, this dental office is kind and can be accommodating, but this is the very last experience I had there and I am discouraged and at a loss. read more

I called two different Dental Care places before I found Kahului Dental. They all gave me an appointment for a day in the end of my vacation period. Imagine what a great experience would be. I made an online request at Kahului Dental and they sent me a time next day. The process is easy and the treatment is the same day with Xray and everything that other places will offer you for days. I am so happy I found Kahului Dental and Dr. Trace Baxter. I had been going to another dental group on Maui for over 20 years and I am surprised there is a solid tooth left in my mouth. On every visit, my previous dentists found a cavity to drill and fill. They replaced all my crowns, with bloody results each time because I had a "narrow mouth." They had a huge apparatus to put in my mouth to keep it open but caused me to gag. When I asked to have it removed, it was pulled out for a short period, then shoved back in later. The whole experience was a two-decadelong dental nightmare. Enter Dr. Baxter. I had an abscess after my previous dentist had replaced a crown without doing a root canal and I was in extreme pain. His one-stop shop was able to fix it all. And since I've been going to Kahului Dental, I've had no cavities. None. It has been five years. Thank you, Dr. Baxter. The telephone receptionist was extremely rude to me over the phone. I had an emergency and had already been in twice, and was attempting to make another appointment for an expensive procedure. She was so short, angry, and argumentative with me for no reason, I honestly started to cry. She told me I should take my business elsewhere, so that is exactly what I did. So 4 years later I'll be getting an implant to fill the void in my mouth where Dr.Baxters staff carelessly ran me through their money mill, while in the chair they gave me false quote on getting me to my end goal, for 1800$. That was not the case. They cleaned it out for the root canal, that's it for 1800$. Borderline criminal 4 years of my life with no tooth, no full smiles, low self esteem. After they "prepped" my unsaveable tooth, Since then quotes were at 3500$ to get an implant than Covid hit.... At this point I question if I even needed a root canal, I think it could have been drilled and filled. I strongly advise you to go somewhere else, this was the most unprofessional medical experience in my life that followed me for years costing thousands of dollars which should have been a routine procedure. How do you sleep at night? I would've hunted me down and honored the screen quotes you gave me while I was sitting in your chair. We look towards you for advice and remedy. I had the day off and called this office to schedule an appointment. Luckily, I found out they had a cancellation later that day and I was able to come in the same day. They also accepted my HMSA PPO! The office was close to my house and parking was a breeze. The receptionist was friendly and handled all my matters with gusto. The whole team had a sense of urgency but also handled me with care and asked a lot of questions about me. Janette was such a personality and was able to instill confidence in me that she was not only competent, but also cared. She was very transparent about pricing and took her time with me. Dr Baxter was also such a pleasure. I've had bad luck with dentists in the past and hate when I have to find a new one. I always felt like my dentists were always trying to sell me something that I didn't need and tack on unnecessary services but Dr. Baxter didn't try any of that and told me he had no worries about my dental health then sent me on my way. The staff told me how great they felt taken care of by their employer and their friendly attitude was a testament to that. The operation is clean and runs efficiently but most of all, they all seem to run on good faith. I highly recommend this dental office. read more

My almost 3-year-old daughter just had her first experience at the dentist today with Dr. Ho and a wonderful hygienist (whose name escapes me but she's blonde and from Poland). My daughter wanted to bring her own toothbrush and paste (which was actually a great idea, do this parents!) and then got very nervous about the big chair and all that. The hygenist was patient and showed her the toy box then watched as she brushed her teeth with her own toothbrush and finally got to use their equipment. Dr. Hi came in and by then my daughter was very happy to have her teeth checked out. She even said after "that was fun at the dentist, mama." Very very happy with this experience! Also, we saw Dr. Baxter this week and he pointed out a spot on my husband's lip that looked off to him so we made an appointment with our doctor to have it checked. Today we called in to schedule a quad wisdom tooth removal due to complications with the teeth. They happened to have an opening immediately so we took it. Dr. Baxter has been my wife's dentist for a few years now and she has always been extremely satisfied with her experiences but this was my first dealing with him and his associates. I could not be happier with the way we were treated. We walked in and they already had everything setup so she walked directly to the chair. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful with my questions as she got settled. Before the procedure Dr. Baxter thoroughly explained our treatment options and patiently listened to our concerns without pressuring us in any direction until we reached a comfortable decision. His skill and expertise were obvious as he removed 3 of the four teeth very efficiently. Even the fourth one which had been partially fused to the lower jaw he extracted as tenderly and with as little discomfort as possible. Dr. Baxter's attitude and that of his team was friendly and professional throughout the visit. I highly recommend his office to anyone wanting exceptional service. read more

Aloha, I am an ICU RN and I have a Certificate of Achievement in Dental Assisting. My dad started having a tooth ache and went to his regular dentist. His tooth needed to be extracted and he had a large abscess underneath it. They gave him an appointment to extract it for 2-1/2 weeks later... Meanwhile he was miserable, he had swelling, and lethargy but couldn't sleep because of the throbbing pain. I was starting to get worried, because people can have life threatening problems due to an abscessed tooth. I tried desperately to get them to move up his appointment or refer him elsewhere to no avail. I called Dr. Baxter's office, and they got him in "that day" and were so nice about it. My dad said, "he is the nicest dentist I have ever met", and "he made me feel so good about the whole thing despite how bad I was feeling". They are truly a wonderful dental office to go to. All the staff is so nice, and Dr. Baxter is a fantastic dentist who does excellent quality work. We are very lucky to have him here on Maui and I would never go anywhere else to have dental work done. As a side note he has also done work for me and my father that other dentists said couldn't be done, and he performed it very well. Fast, affordable, friendly, got my tooth back!! Crown fell off, needed to get it glued. They were able to schedule me fairly quickly, had the little text reminder which was helpful. Place was clean and staff was nice and spent much less then I was quoted!! 1st service was very good, however, Called them a 2nd time because my mauler broke in half and asked if they can please take 5-10 min just to grind off the sharp edges so I can at the very least eat and talk without cutting my tongue. I was told sorry you will have to wait 2 days cause we are booked... 5-10 minutes is all I asked for and explained it was really bad, but to no avail. Will shop elsewhere but as a business owner I can tell it's not even the owners fault, that assistant didn't even take the time to ask nor did she show any sympathy, wasn't helpful at all.. 3 stars to get the owners attention, I would always reconsider but the assistant needs to learn that she could of at the very least asked the dentists to spare 5 minutes of their time for me which she didn't do. I would never turn my client down for 5-10 min of my time.... read more

I went to this office and was told I had a cavity in btw my teeth while pregnant and without ha ing xrays done and was told I need to get a crown done ASAP and make an appointment. I got suspicious and went and got a second opinion from another dentist and there was absolutely nothing wrong with my teeth unbelievable!!! It is so wrong to lie to patients just to make money awful! Would never recommend going to this place. Thankful I listened to my intuition and checked and now have a wonderful doctor and my teeth are perfectly fine 2 years later. read more

The office is newly updated with top of the line equipment. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
