I hired Rothbard Law Offices to handle what I believe was a straightforward non-payment eviction case. Unfortunately, their support has been underwhelming. They did not meaningfully assist with my Tenant Protection Ordinance (TPO) responsibilities, and since the paralegal left in the middle of my case, I've had virtually no direct communication. I've had to chase updates repeatedly, and the progress on my case was slow. Even after I obtained default judgment, I lost significant time because they delayed taking the next steps. There was nearly a two-week period where they assured me the writ of possession had been submitted to the sheriff, only for me to discover through follow-ups that it hadn't been sent at all. This mistake cost me another two weeks of waiting. While they are a few hundred dollars cheaper than some alternatives and one of the few firms that still handle evictions, the slow responses and repeated follow-ups cost me almost three weeks in total delays. If you consider the lost opportunity in turning the apartment over to a new tenant faster, I would have gladly paid a bit more to have the eviction completed in a timely manner. As a landlord required to use legal representation under my LLC, I relied on them to manage this case professionally. Instead, many of my questions went unanswered, proactive communication was lacking, and to this day it feels like my matter is simply being handled by an office secretary--with no clear paralegal assigned or even named as a point of contact. read more

Recently we hired Tod Rothbard Law Office for a non-pay eviction case. Virtually this office seems just got paper work done and not providing progress status -- not till we checking back. It seems that they were simply doing a scheduled work without checking any real status. One example is that they did not check with the tenant on moving status and still went next step for writ and Sheriff service requests (in my case, tenants moved out already). Sure that not needed costs charged to us. When talking about cost, no idea why at the time of initial talking they were showing a flat fee that is $300 less than later at the time when signed contract with them. read more

I had a tenant who was never maintaining my mom's San Leandro rental, with garbage and buckets and equipment/tools strewn all over the backyard, in violation of the rental agreement. I had given them notice to move, but, being in Alameda County (SF Bay Area), one of the last counties that had Covid emergency restrictions on eviction still going on, they simply ignored it, and I had no way to enforce it. When the restrictions were lifted the end of last April, Todd Rothbard's office was able to help. For a flat fee the law office arranged all the notices/documentation, and in about 60 days this culminated in the county sheriff removing the tenants from the premises (with, thankfully, no delay by the Court). Throughout the process the staff at Todd Rothbard Law Offices were courteous and responsive to questions via phone or email, and they provided clear advice and instructions on how to proceed each step of the way. The worst Company ever!! There is a guy there by the name Kevin White that claims he is an attorney. He told me the owner hired him and his been there 25 years and that he was the first attorney's hired on. He just last week Tuesday offered me a job for Paralegal and told me to start this coming Monday then turned around and doesn't send an offer letter. When I called him, he tells me that the owner doesn't want to pay more and you're highly qualified. Then goes on telling me that they have several positions but they are putting it on hold and the day after calls again to hire me at their front desk as a receptionist. He doesn't even have the courtesy to tell me that now all positions are put on Hold. Most professionals or legit companies will tell you either you meet the requirements or they went with someone else that maybe more suitable for the position but this guy is a real loser that couldn't even speak the truth!! Seems like all they do is run scams at this firm. No one should work for them!! If they can treat candidates coming in for interview this way, I only wonder how he treat his employees or clients!! He guided us through the extensive process and along with his assistant Samar, engaged with us promptly every time we reached out and allayed our concerns - not being professional landlords, we appreciated his soft skills over the phone. I selected him after doing extensive online research and I feel I got it right: he provided us the legal services we needed for a competitive price. End-to-end the process took 3 months, which from my online knowledge, seems to be about average. I am docking 1* for a few reasons: 1) There were some turn-around delays in the timeline that could have been avoided by proactive communication from their side, 2) Samar made mistakes in her work (some small like writing the wrong date for appointments and some major like writing a wrong 3-day notice) that made us have to always double check things coming from her with our own limited knowledge. 3) Their landline phone was rarely picked up even when dialing in for a scheduled meeting 4) Our actual settlement negotiation in court was handled by a different lawyer since Brian happened to be out of town on that date. From that experience, we realized that Brian had counseled and prepared us to be less aggressive in our negotiations than what we ended up being, and being more aggressive definitely gave us a better outcome.
