We had a dispute against our landlord so we decided to hire Abid Aziz (BIG MISTAKE). He completely forgot to mention one of our agreement terms during our meeting with our LL, when I reminded him it was too late. He assumed it was his mistake but refused to pay for it. A few weeks later we got our settlement check, we emailed him a month later asking for the breakdown of costs and fee, and that's when he told us that his team made a mistake with the invoices and there was money missing for our settlement. I am not happy doing business with this firm. I talked with a lawyer at their office and he encouraged me to send a harsh email to my landlord. They charged me for the letter. The letter content was good but I think it was general. No follow ups, no reply, no further actions after landlord's reply! The lawyer was disappeared and no reply to any of my calls or emails :)))))))) I had to hire another lawyer to answer my landlords formal reply and I could see the new lawyer was waaaaay better that Aziz law office in terms of quality of the service, preparing nice formal letter, great supporting statements, and even the law numbers in each section of the letter!! the only reason that I gave two star for this firm is they did not charge me for consultation phone call Which was about 15min. I had to call few times in order to speak with anyone. Then I was told to go to a legal recourse center. I wasn't even told to make an appointment or told what it would cost to retain this attorney. Then, when I had a severe life threatening event (I did dial 911) I called his phone number 4 times over the course of 2 days stressing how important it was and how terrified I was, etc. Never got a call back. I'm guessing most people never find need hire a Landlord Tenant Law attorney, but I found out first-hand that should that day come, you wont have the luxury of time to vet out potential lawyers. In our situation, we were surprised by our landlord with an unexpected action, and from day one, the process moved faster than we could keep up with. I know many lawyers that specialized in other areas of law, but none of them could refer a decent lawyer that specializes in Landlord Tenant Law and represented the Tenant with the same fervent, professional expertise that I was accustomed to in my business. I was running out of time to file an answer, but didn't want to settle for whoever called back first from the internet. In the 11th hour (quite literally), my wife was found Aziz Legal on Yelp. I admit, I was apprehensive. My wife liked him, but during my first call with him, his recap of who was representing our opponent made me feel like he didn't want the case. He kept bragging on the accolades of our opposing counsel and I started to wonder who's side he was on. What he did say, that made an impression, is he went through a through analysis of the likely strategy our opponent would use. He showed strong understanding of the law and accurately predicted what our opponent would do. Unfortunately, I didn't engage him at first. I just took notes as he went into a thorough consultation on what to do first, what to expect, how the law applied and how to respond. He gave us recommendations and suggested courses of action. He was so thorough that I decided I could take this on myself. After all, I'm a long time courtroom veteran, having been on the plaintiff and defendant's side of the courtroom a dozen times during my career. Needless to say, I fell flat on my face immediately. I actually decided not to employ Abid's entire recommended strategy and paid for it. But so far, Abid was the most responsive, most knowledgeable, and although he kept reminding me that our opponent has been practicing law longer than he's been alive, he was the most experienced in this type of case. So I went running back to him, and immediately got berated. "He's not soft after all!" I realized. I had mistaken his pragmatism for lack of confidence. This time I listened intently as he laid out the new strategy. He was detailed and aggressive and told us what the law would allow, what tactics our opponent would apply and how to counter. He made it clear, like he was talking to a 5 year old, that i would have to follow his direction precisely. I think he realized that he was scolding me, and apologized, saying, "If you would have just hired me and done this to begin with, you wouldn't be in this mess. That was stupid." But follow his new advice we did, and it worked - even when many other attorneys said we didn't have a chance. I know this review was long and impassioned, but I can't tell you how grateful I am for Abid's zeal for the law and understanding of process and procedure. I will admit, I didn't WIN the case outright, but Abid's counsel did posture us into a position that we were able to negotiate a reasonable settlement - and my exposure was limited. I realize now that had I now gone back to Aziz, I would have been TOAST. So I leave you with the same admonishment he gave me... Don't be stupid. Hire Aziz Legal.
