Went here because i needed a some soup bowls, but i found so much more. The staff were super helpful. The space is small and can fill up quickly as many customers flock to this establishment. I enjoyed this shop so much it made me miss china town in nyc or main street. I loved it and i will be back. The store takes card / cash etc. and dont be afraid to stop in and ask about anything.

First time there today with a friend. Pretty sweet. Awesome ice cream and candy. I've never had candy so good, and the waffle ice cream thing with chocolate was on point.

Tokyo Market does a decent job. It allows Richmonders to have access to a number of Japanese and generally Asian options for the kitchen and pantry along with snacks, sweets, utensils, and other knickknacks. The staff are usually friendly and the store is always clean. It's a tiny space so I try to avoid weekends though that's not always possible. Most items come at a certain price due to them being imported or hard to find which I find explains anything that seems a little pricey. Overall Tokyo Market is a cute place, just off the corner of Cary and S Colonial. Stop by one day if you're ever taking a leisurely constitutional through Carytown.

Nicely stocked and attentive owner. Was able to find things on my list and things I didn't know that I needed.

New Discovery was a medicine for consumption (tuberculosis) a disease which at the time was killing millions of people. Many companies offered cures and remedies for consumption. However, all were frauds, including this, which was actually a concoction made from a morphine and chloroform mixture, calculated to strike terror to the doctors or to any other class or profession, except, perhaps, the undertakers. It is a pretty diabolical concoction to give to anyone, and particularly to a consumptive. The chloroform temporarily allays the cough, thereby checking Nature's effort to throw off the dead matter from the lungs. The opium drugs the patient into a deceived cheerfulness. Add a touch of alcohol (to further dull the sufferer's pain, and hey, it helped (until it didn't) The combination is admirably designed to shorten the life of any consumptive who takes it steadily. It was pretty cool and the owner/manager was a blast to chat with as well. Quite a few oddities "not for sale" and most likely not a store for everyone. Check it out if you dare. I absolutely love The Lioness! It is a small but mighty shop! I originally went as part of a Yelp…read moreevent earlier this year and I have returned on multiple occasions to get presents for friends and family members. Every item is so thoughtfully curated by the owner, Kristina, who not only sources items from her travels but also makes several of the gifts available in the store. I always leave with so many cute presents for people or for myself. Some of the things can be a bit pricey but you can clearly see the quality and why it's worth it to purchase it! I will definitely be stopping by there again before the holiday season is through and even more in the year to come! *the attached photos are a little old but show a sampling of the fun items in the store!!

There are lots of fun tea towels and cool socks, beautiful cards, gorgeous mid century modern vegas style ornaments with names of cities and neighborhoods(Richmond, Bellevue, Museum District, Fredericksburg etc She just needs Petersburg!). I believe the shop owner makes the ornaments. She does make scented candles. So people have scented candles but these are exceptional-- the scents so nice, nuanced. I plan to get one next time. The jars them come in are pretty as well. I was in awe of the rings....they were sort of art deco yet sort of exotic. I cannot remember the lovely store owner's name but she said they came from Portugal. There were other fun rings made in Germany. She obtains her items from her travels and the store reflects that. I fell in love with a ring and had to have. It's gorgeous and I own nothing like it. The prices are reasonable and the items are beautiful. If you need a gift for someone you really like who likes pretty and colorful things this is where you go. Parking was easy and you could walk down the street to Dot's Back in for a treat. I'll return....very soon!
