Brought my family here to try some mochi donuts and Korean corn dogs because I have been seeing them all over the place on social media. The parking situation was a little tricky at first since I had seen a parking lot on google maps, but once you get there, all of the parking is reserved for VCU personnel only. We ended up circling the block trying to find some street parking after we realized that was where we needed to park. Luckily, they are very easy to find because of the bright signs and very recognizable posters and stuff. I never would have found it if I was just trying to find it in the apartment building, but it was impossible to miss the cute neon Corndog signs. We were the only ones inside when we got there, around 2pm on a Friday. We were greeted immediately and we ordered a potato dog with cheese, a potato dog with beef, and a ramen dog with beef. We also ordered a strawberry fizz, and a three pack of mochi donuts. I really liked how they mark each of the sticks so you are certain what you are eating. Plain sticks are beef, black mark means cheese, and (I think) green means chicken. I just love when restaurants put that kind of care into making sure you don't accidentally eat something you can't or don't eat. The cheese and potato dog was AWESOME, it had a cheese pull like nothing I've ever seen before. It was insane. The potatoes are such a perfect blend of crispy outside and soft inside. It was perfect. It stood up really well to the cheese. My son loved the beef and crispy ramen. And he normally doesn't like ramen, but he went to town on the crispy creation. He normally has sensory issues and doesn't like to try a lot of new foods, but he loved this. Our least favorite of the three was the potato and beef dog, because the potato just doesn't really stand up as well against the beef. The beef is crazy juicy and flavorful, so the potato sort of gets lost, other than the crunch. Maybe if it had a little seasoning on it? I'd absolutely buy it again, but maybe next time I will sprinkle it with my favorite hot sauce or seasoning blend. We also thought the box these came in were so clever! It has a cutout for the stick to poke through, but then you can hold the box with one hand and pull the stick with the other, so if you want to take the stick off to eat it easier, or closer to the end, it just slides right off into your box. It makes so much sense! The strawberry fizz was so refreshing and delicious, we all loved the strawberry flavor, and the little cans they make it in are so cute. The donuts were really cool. I prefer the texture of these to most regular donuts because they are light, but also a little chewy at the same time. Another silly little preference of mine, but I also think mochi donuts are perfect for sharing because the little balls break off so easily. We all had a different favorite, but my daughter liked how tasty the Oreo Cookie one was, and very different from my son's favorite one - marshmallow. It was so gooey! I LOVED the crispy/chewy texture of the crème brûlée! I am a sucker for caramelized sugar. It was so good. I didn't check how long it took the food to actually get to us, but we put 30 minutes in the parking meter, walked to the restaurant, ordered, received and ate our food, and walked back to the car and still had 3 minutes to spare. I am glad we don't live closer (and I hate driving downtown), because I would come back constantly. read more

I've wanted to try this place, but I'm never driving the right direction to down franklin to make it an easy stop. Well, it finally happened and I was quite pleased. When you walk in, you can choose to order with a person if you like, but they also have 2 self-serve kiosks which is what I opted for. Crème brûlée is one of my favorite desserts so I started with that one and it absolutely blew me out the water. It was soooo good, I came back the next day and got 3 more of just that flavor. This was my first time trying mochi donuts. They're soft, but more pillowy and chewy than your standard donut.The easiest way I can describe them is almost like a really soft funnel cake. I like the little sections bc it makes them easy to split and share. I also got a brown sugar milk tea. The drink itself was good, your typical bsmt, but the boba were not. They were way tinier than your average, which I didn't mind at all. However they were surprisingly HARD. Would not get again. The can they give it to you in is SO cute, I've tried lots of boba places and never had such unique packaging. This place is a 10/10 in terms of branding and packaging. -- Third visit, I got 6 pack with three of my favorite - creme brûlée. I also tried three new flavors - strawberry, oreo matcha and white chocolate pistachio. They we're all good, but crème brûlée is still my favorite. Decided to give their drinks another go and got the Horchata latte - meh, not for me. But then I got the Red Velvet latte and OH MY GOD. I'll literally CRY if they ever get rid of this drink. While my daughter and I were walking around Downtown Richmond, we happened to be a few short minutes away from Mochinut so we decided to head over and try it out. The first thing I noticed as soon as we walked in was the decor and the beautiful backdrop on the wall that was perfect for photos. The line of people waiting for their order was pretty long but the line to order food wasn't long at all so we decided on the Creme Brulee, Churro & Funnel Cake Monchinuts. I quickly noticed they had Rice Hotdogs so we ordered the Potato Original and the Hot Cheetos Mozzarella since it's been something we've wanted to try for years. We received our Mochinuts right away and was given our receipt with the Order # to listen out for when the Hotdogs were ready. The Creme Brulee Mochinuts were AMAZING!!! The outside had a slightly crunchy exterior due to the melted sugar and the inside was sweet and soft, it was perfection. The Churro tasted alright, it was drizzled with a caramel like sauce and sprinkled with a little sugar but there wasn't much flavor. The Funnel Cake was tasty, it was sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled with a berry sauce. It took about 15 mins for us to receive our hotdogs and unfortunately we both agreed that they weren't our favorite. The Original Potato tasted like a corndog filled with cheese and a hotdog, covered with fried potatoes and sprinkled with sugar. I enjoyed the crunchy exterior but the sugar was throwing me off. The Hot Cheetos Mozzarella tasted like a breaded mozzarella stick covered in Hot Cheetos crumbles but the Hot Cheetos taste was overwhelming. The mozzarella cheese was gooey in both corn dog which was fun to eat but we personally didn't enjoy them. Overall, we had a great first experience trying out Mochinuts. A Mochi what??! Oh you mean a Mochinut, the beautiful marriage of mochi with the concept of a donut but better. It's a donut made from mochi (rice flour) in the shape of an edible teething ring, carefully topped with just the right amount of icing. I wasn't sure what to expect but what my tastebuds experienced was ecstasy. It's definitely chewy but not overly chewy nor super sticky, it's light on the GI and (doesn't sit like a ton of bricks) and isn't overly sweet. As mentioned by other reviewers, it's not a cheap treat. The more you buy doesn't make the price less expensive unfortunately. The flavors rotate, hence check their Instagram or website for the available flavors for the day(s). You can order online on their website for pick up if you're in a hurry. We went on a Saturday around 5pm and the line was short. However within minutes a long line grew. But the speed of service was great! It went fast and the employees are efficient and super nice and friendly! I'm not confident on the parking situation. I didn't see the Mochinut parking lot someone mentioned. I saw a lot with angled parking and yellow signs with VCU on them. We just found nearby street parking. We ordered some milk teas. I had the ube milk tea and my sister ordered the brown sugar. Let's just say milk tea is not their strength. It wasn't terrible, just underwhelming. In addition, to buying a dozen of Mochinuts, we split a Korean corn dog. It might be my age, and my intolerance for super spicy foods, but the flaming hot Cheetos dog was an inferno in my mouth. Yeah, I know the word "flaming" is in the name. No surprise. Haha. The corndog itself looks toxic haha. I've had Korean corn dogs before and enjoyed them, but I think my experience with this one might deter me from being less adventurous with other flavors. The first time I tried mochi donuts was in California this May and I loved them. I'm not a big fan of regular donuts or cake donuts, but I could eat mochi donuts any day; I just prefer the chewy texture more. We decided to go the day after grand opening because the lines were ridiculously long and wrapped around the block the first day. It still took us 30 minutes waiting in line and we started near the bottom steps of the building. They have a really cute backdrop that says "Love you so Mochi," which is perfect for all those Instagram and Yelp photos. On the day we went, they had 6 flavors: original, choco pebbles , mango, strawberry, churro, and fruity pebble. We ordered the fruity pebbles, strawberry, fruity pebbles, and churro. I think the mango mochi donut was my favorite, but all these were little too sweet for me. From other people's social media stories, it seems they change the flavors each day. We also ordered ube, thai, and brown sugar drinks. They are tad sweet, but the cans are very cute~ The kitchen is still learning to keep up with the busy flow, which is expected the first few days of opening. When it was my turn to order, the cashier said they were out of boba, which didn't make a whole difference to me. I guess after I paid and walked to the side, new boba was brought out, but the other workers had already sealed my drink. The worker asked if I wanted to add boba and I said "sure," thinking she was either going to add it or make a new one. But instead, she just pulled out a drink from the fridge. So excited that Richmond now has a mochi donut spot. I've had them up in NOVA before so I had to see if this spot was just as good & if not better. I love mochi donuts not only for the texture but flavor profile as well. We went on day 5 of opening and the line was out the door. I will say it did go by rather quickly . The lines are long though. I think in the future they might have a pre-order option available . They also close once sold out. Thankfully, when we went they still had a lot of flavors left since it was later in the day . We decided to try 2 flavors and get one for my friend. They had a total of 6 flavors & seems to be rotating each day . Today they had -strawberry, -fruity pebbles, -taro -oreo, - tiramisu - churro. The flavors were spot on and even through it was sweet it was balanced with the mochi texture. The donuts were cold but the consistency was good and not too oily . I will say these donuts do not eat well the next day so if get a lot make sure you'll eat them. You can get them individually or in 3,6, or 12. I do hope they will have flavors like yuzu or black sesame in the future. The rice hotdog was soo good. I loved the crunchiness of the rice and it had a nice chew. The rice hotdog itself wasn't too big and the perfect snack. I do wish it wasn't served in a bag , it's hard to put condiments & not make a mess. I just opted to use a napkin instead. They ran out of boba so none of my drink was sol. I like the bottle it's in and great for being on the go . The flavors are good but on the sweater side . This is where I first tasted the mochi donuts, my sister actually introduced me to this place and I was obsessed with it! both me and my sister loves the creme brulee flavor that's our favorite actually. this location is a spot for students, every time we go here you see students but it makes sense since it is in the VCU area.
