That being said, we went for the holiday celebrations, and well, this was packed more than a can of sardines. We were only there the last hour of the festivities, but it felt like an eternity. Lines, lines everywhere, with lots of disorganization as there were minimal lights and a lot of staff that were directing people to park in places further when there was parking up front. Ugh. Definitely a place to come early for a special day because it's hard to get a decent spot otherwise. The lines, lines everywhere continued everywhere honestly. The food trucks, the finding a good spot, the entering and leaving the park. Sigh. At least the fireworks were pretty. Will have to return on a regular day to see if I can actually enjoy this park rather than just think of all the stress it brought us.

New park discovery of a Tallahasee gem for running and hiking …read more This 255-acre park with 3 1 mile mountain bike trail was named in 1977 after a Leon High coach (1944 to 1946) Thomas Irwin Brown .Tom Brown was also a Babe Ruth League coach for 20 years and a Leon County Commisioner for 14 years. His love of sports was the blueprint for establishing these beautiful and well-kept trails and park. I love to find new places to run and hike while traveling and was surprised at how many baseball, softball fields, and tennis / pickle board courts this park offers. You can hear the peck of woodpeckers on trees and many different types of birds such as cardinals and swallow tailed kite as you hike on their asphalt paths or dirt trails. Picnic pavilions, swimming pool, tennis courts, softball fields and much, much more make up Myers Park. Plenty of shade is provided by the canopy trees throughout the park. A notable mention was the horse shoe throwing area that had horse shoes ready to throw! I actually threw a dead ringer within a couple of throws! The park is relatively large and with what seems to be ample parking. Located in an older residential part of Tallahassee, Myers Park seems to be a great place to throw a BBQ or birthday party or simply to get out and meander around the densely wooded acreage which is very beautiful.

What's better than cold beer, a hot dog and the crack (or ping) of the bat? You guessed it, nada! The Noles have some loyal freakin' fans, too. I'm talking about fans who cheer/scream/shout for every single pitch of a nine inning game. It's a magical place. Even those who aren't FSU fans can appreciate its beauty. Florida State, Florida State, Florida State. Woooo!

What was probably a ravine with water flowing through it is now a small park with some up and down to it if you walk or run the exercise trail that winds through. Any running water has long ago been buried below with pipes. The Boy Scout meeting house in the park has been around since 1935. The Recreation Center building was opened in 1957. There is one ball field currently used for softball and some tennis courts. There is a small concrete track on the perimeter. Seems like I remember seeing a small picnic pavilion. I have lots of memories from my youth at this park. I practiced for peewee football here. I slid down the hill beyond the outfield fence on cardboard. The Boy Scouts had our carved racers events here (Pine Wood Derby?). I took a pottery class and an air rifle safety class at the Recreation Center. The Recreation Center was the site for high school teen dances on Saturdays. Many of the same activities I participated in here are still happening. The Recreation Center has a full calendar of art classes. Lots of people walk or run the exercise trail through the park. Sports are still played. Picnics are still done. Maybe the Boy Scouts still meet in their building. The earliest of Tallahasseeans walked through here and I suspect that will continue to happen for a long time to come.

This is one of the old historic golf courses with magnificent huge old trees and awesome views at…read moreevery hole. The greens and bunkers are in great shape, the fairways are good but could use a little improvement in places, which to their credit, it appears they are working on. Had a great round, pace was good, slower groups were very courteous and allowed me to play through though I never asked to do so. Staff is pleasant and seems to be on top of things. Service in the restaurant and pro shop was great. Just an all around great experience. I would drive an hour or two to play this course again.
