My husband and I bought a house that wasn't too old and was in very good shape but once we found out furniture delivery was going to take forever, we decided we might as well repaint and do some other things around the house. We contacted two contractors (both very nice) but Tom was very responsive and it didn't hurt that the other bid was an additional 50% more than what Tom quoted us. Within two weeks of signing the agreement, everything was done. The paint job his team gave the house makes the inside look brand new. It's phenomenal and the painters were quick and clean. I do not write reviews but this was an experience like no other. We have an antique house ( 150 years old) which was in need of a little, well no A LOT. Of TLC! It desperately needed an exterior paint job which we put off for a year or two . This summer we decided it was time . We like most people wanted a great job at a discount price. I'll get to the point. Do not skimp on your home, it's your biggest investment. Do not skimp on the safety of you or your family. For obvious reasons. We initially hired a company after tons of research. Yelp , home advisor, Facebook, etc.. We interviewed probably 20 companies/people. When we we narrowed it down we went w the company who promised us everything, at a reasonable price.It was very important to us that the person giving us the estimate knew that my husband would be out of town and we wanted to feel safe . After we hired them. The communication got very confusing. The person we hired was not the person calling us. The day they ( they as in 2 people) showed up it had a different name on the van. The next day no one showed up , or the next day. Then one person showed up. Covered nothing, was on his phone the whole time. I could go on and on. It was not good & it was scary. We decided to go w our first choice who was a little more expensive. Thank God he was willing to fit us in it was the beginning of October and it was the best decision we have ever made EVER!! I could not say more about our experience w Tom Saint and his unbelievable crew!! There seems to be nothing that isn't difficult the last couple of years. Everything!! I hired Tom Saint, what I thought was a professional and quality company to replace my decks. Instead, I got a group of amateurs who had no idea what they were doing. Tom came to evaluate this project with his foreman and his "master carpenter", so I was impressed. But everything declined from there. I can't tell you how disappointed and upset I am with their performance. To begin, on most occasions the men were unsupervised and inexperienced. The foreman would drop off a couple of men, tell them to demo the existing deck surface and then he would leave and return at the end of the day to pick them up. These men proceeded to brutally destroy the existing deck surface as well as the underlying support jousts, many of which were split as a result. There was no care exercised to preserve the underlying structure. If I had to guess, these men were day labor that he picked up in Danbury. My biggest mistake was to not fire them at this point, instead I was ensured that 'don't worry, we'll make everything right in the end". The "Master Carpenter" did not supervise or oversee the work done by the team. I did observe him giving one of the men some direction on one occasion, but there was no follow-up. As a result, work proceeded without order or purpose. It turns out, I was later informed that he was an alcoholic, which helps to explain the numerous over-cuts, missed measured boards, and cuts that were not true. Work proceeded in a haphazard, careless, and sloppy fashion. The team did not have the best interests of the business in mind or the best interests of the client. They were here to get a task done and that's it. There was no care exercised to do a quality job, only to get the job done as fast as possible, total amateurs. When you step back and observe the overall effect, you observe a new attractive deck. But upon close inspection, the errors and omissions become apparent and are to numerous to list here, but some are as follows; When I raised my complaints with Tom, his reply was that this was beyond his expertise and that this is the type of work that he shouldn't be involved with. -Damaged wood used in very visible locations. -Deck boards not screwed down. -Work out of level. -Visible overcuts. -Boards that don't fit properly. -Boards installed upside down. -Balusters that are unevenly spaced and not parallel. -Work that is incomplete and left to the client to finish. -Debris everywhere. -Damage to the existing siding. -Two set of steps installed. Both were incorrectly measured and cut. One set doesn't even reach the ground, and the other doesn't rest on a secure base. -There are so many more errors and omissions to numerous to list here, -The more I look, the more I find. read more

I requested a quote for the job on Tom's website and no sooner did I hit the submit button, I got a call from Tom. Told him what I needed, made an appointment to come by and quote the job (a matter of a couple days). Scheduled time and payment arrangements. Very quick, professional, ultra fast. The crew showed up on time, covered everything that wasn't being painted, cleaned up - didn't skip a beat. Entire job was done in two days. I didn't have to check on anything. All of them EXPERTS! PROS! These are true painters believe me there is a difference. It's not just about the painting. The garbage was removed everyday , they never left anything out of place , the attention to detail was unbelievable. They sanded our house to the natural wood. It had never been done. They had people who only worked on our ancient windows. They glazed them , & replaced glass that we could not get done by anybody for years. Rotted wood was replaced. They covered all our new bushes and trees. Tom checked in daily. I felt comfortable to voice any questions or concerns. Did I mention i felt 100% safe w these people whom I spent 2&1/2 weeks with . I truly missed them when they were gone. But most importantly not only was the journey a lesson and an amazing experience but our house was completely transformed and brought back to life. It is absolutely gorgeous! I can't stop staring at it . Our friends and neighbors are in awe. I don't know what else to say I could go on for days. BEST decision we ever made . I've had Tom's guys paint for me twice now. The first experience was great. He painted about 1/2 of a 2400 square foot house in 2-3 days. Did a fantastic job repairing the walls before painting. I was tired of waiting around to paint the other rooms, so re-hired Tom's guys this time around. Tom Saint and his crew did an amazing job renovating our entire house. We had a pipe burst which cause a lot of damage and Tom was able to restore the house to better than before. He gave us practical and cost conscious options and made some really great suggestions about design and features. I hired Tom to do a kitchen update in my home in Danbury -- repainting the cabinets and changing the countertops and backsplash, and re paint the whole first floor and upstairs hallway. It is rare these days to find a contractor who does exactly what they say they will do, for the price they say it will cost and in the time they said it would take. But Tom did all three! My kitchen looks like I spent 4x the amount of money that I actually did! Tom and his crew were extremely professional and expert in each of their fields. We had Tom and his crew come in and completely repaint both floors of our entire house. They did a fantastic job turning the cave like colors into a bright open house. Tom also removed the old carpeting from our second floor and replaced it with new hardwood floors. Not the hardwood floors out of the box from Bruce, but real tongue and groove floors with varnish on top to match the main floor. We had an unexpected leak on the main floor. That did not phase Tom even though it was not part of the original project. The new hardwoods on main floor now are identical to upstairs. This was a large project yet Tom did a great job with project management and time management that allowed us to move in on schedule. read more

Tom and his crew painted our house a couple of years ago. They did a good job with the painting and his team were hard workers and respectful. I gave Tom permission to cut down our overgrown shrubbery but had explicitly requested in a text, that Tom acknowledged, that he not cut down the 50-year-old rhododendron in front of our living room. It was approximately 12'W x 14'D x 6'H. Tom and his team showed up unannounced without warning, while we were away on vacation. They took down the rhododendron that Tom admitted was a mistake, and the limb of a crabapple tree that was growing at an angle away from the house, rather than cutting the branches that were growing toward the house. The tree looked so bad that we finally had to have it taken down this past summer. Tom was apologetic but when it came time to replace the rhododendrons, he was willing to buy three small rhodies for $30. each, hardly a replacement for the mammoth 50-year-old rhododendron that had been cut down. Tom was surprised when I told him the price of replacement rhododendrons (root-balled ones), and summarily told me that he didn't want to have anything to do with me. Nice! He also declined to hang the shutters that he had committed to doing. I've lost respect for him. Moral of the story, have a contract in writing with all the stipulations. Be sure to agree on an explicit date for the painting project. Do not pay him everything until all work is complete (I know, silly me.) and do Not let him nor his team anywhere near your landscaping. Have that done separately before the painting crew comes. read more

Tom's crew painted all of our interior trim, walls and ceilings in several rooms in February 2018. The job was huge and took 12 days with a crew of 4 - 6 guys every day. Everyone on the crew was so professional and polite. The crews are professionally run with a superintendent that gives the direction for each day, consistent start/finish time each day, and copious cleaning each day. Every single day, the plastic was removed, drop cloths were shaken out, and the area was vacuumed to minimize dust. They restored all of our buckled drywall and window sills that were damaged. The work was beautiful and there are master painters that work for him that can handle any task. I have waited a couple of weeks before I felt I could be somewhat reasonable in writing this review. We had Tom and his so call crew powerwash the house, sheetrock the living room ceiling, prep, paint the living room and hall, replace deck boards and restain the deck. This project was truly a nightmare. Very unprofessional. The 'foreman' never spoke to me about what was going on with the project before leaving for the day. My husband and I had to contact Tom directly. Because of this, Tom labeled us as being difficult. Well, this difficult person believes that if you do a small job or a large job, the quality of the work should be the same and we shouldn't have to contact the owner each and every day to express our concerns with the project. We have had some surprises come up since we removed him from the project - such as a piece of paper was used instead of sheet rock in preping the wall. We found that when we were installing trim and the nail when completely through the paper. The mount that we put in for the ceiling fan was no longer mounted after the sheet rock was installed and to boot, all of a sudden there is no power going to the box. There is so many things that went bad that I thought it was my obligation to warn other potential clients to look elsewhere.
