When we hung up the phone I got a text with the technicians info and an email with a link to my portal account. Awesome. Next day tech called to say they finished the job before mine early and asked if they could come early. Got here and quickly diagnosed the problem I identified (dripping shut off valve) but also found a much larger problem (leaking supply line to the house). He gave me individual quotes for the repairs. I authorized both on his cell phone and asked him to replace an additional spigot on the other side of the house. All three repairs were complete in under 3 hours, including the time it took for him to go buy parts. I don't know if the prices were competitive, but they seemed current economy fair to me. Had a wet bedroom floor, hubby called Tom Shell Plumbing. Turns out that was mistake 1. Spa shower system in the master bath, developed a crack, leaking into the walls. Tech knew there was something more serious after his diagnosis & suggested a restoration co. If we knew then what we know now, Would have stopped, paid for his services & been done He was nice to stick around & wait for me to get home. He had finished w/ hubby, & hubby wanted me to help w/ our next move, have the tech explain what happened & a potential new shower head. Felt pressured, like it should be replace right away, surprise, it didn't. Came recommended, so thought we could trust them. Mistake 2. Told a new shower head would apply to deductible, as he knew insurance was going to have to get involved. We had never had to deal w/ or file a home claim in 30+ years, so didn't know any better I am particular about my showers, as I am not a tall person. Asked for pictures & description of the new shower head, there were none. Convenient? He explained what it would be like. It was installed while I was at work. Didn't see it until I got home, then it was too late. Well, it wasn't anything like we were told/wanted, looks, length or functionality. Lie #1 & DEFINITELY NOT worth $1,200 price. Ordered same day, so service call was deducted. A line to order right away. Mistake 3 The restoration co came out, a day after the plumber tech was here. That is the only thing the tech got right, going to need some major repairs. New shower head installed, then right after the remediation/demolition began. Down 2 BR's & master bath for 3 months now Finally received insurance approval for repairs. The new shower head, was NOT applied to the deductible, like we were told. Both the restoration co & insurance told us, the thing that caused the issue is NOT covered. Lie 2 Since the new shower head was not what we were told, length, looks, usage & pressure wise, we are replacing it w/ something better, more functional, when we start the rebuild process. Since I no longer need the useless, overpriced shower head, tried to return it to get my money back. I have bought other shower heads in the past & never had 1 this small or bad Started out well, person who answered was friendly & sounded like she wanted to help & cared. Exchanged a couple calls back n forth. I appreciated that. However, that is where the CS ended. I was waiting for a return call later that day or the next, didn't happen. I had to call the next day, as I didn't hear anything, to see if there was an update on my questions. They didn't even have the decency to call, to tell me, No, I wasn't getting my money back. Said I signed a contract for the work, the work was done. It wasn't the work in question, it was the product they sold us. Shower head was cheap & ineffective & not what was expected or told. Get this, was told, I could return it, for no refund. Why, so you can resell it & make a double profit? Hubby is the patient one & is not happy, wants to take them to small claims court. Needless to say, we learned some valuable lessons & learned who NOT to trust or use in the future. Thank You for the lies, lessons & taking over $1,000 of our hard earned money, for something we will never use. You hit us in the wallet, let's see w/ reviews/social media, if we can return some of the favor. Hate that this happened, I don't like doing reviews, rarely do & that I feel I need to sink to this level. I feel companies need to learn from their mistakes/practices. While potential customers, need to be aware/learn from our mistakes. If I can save 1 person reading this time & money Glad you stand behind your products/services at the cost of losing customers. To say that I demanded someone to come out to the house in the evening was a lie. I told the receptionist that I had a leak and I gave her the Moen part number. He showed up in the evening for one or two minutes and said he'll be back in the morning. I see a number of other people have been "taken". I said it before and I'll say it again it was probably my stupidity for not asking ahead of time how much they were going to charge. $362 for 15 minutes work and a $20 part. They are local within 15 minutes of where I live so they really can't charge travel or gas or any other kind of expense. A $100 charge would've been reasonable. read more

A couple simple routine plumbing repairs, technician break screen door handle says 'oops sorry' and was supposed to install a push open / close chrome sink pop-up. I find out after the install it only stays open - he doesn't have the right one and he says 'oops sorry' Other technician installs a hose shut off valve ($15 valve at Home Depot) a $550 repair. He already had cut a hole in stucco, so I had him preceded. Had a similar repair done a week or so later, I was done with Tom Shell plumbing, I called another certified / insured plumber he did same repair (minus the the $15 valve) - repair for $220. Something just didn't seem right. I tried to track down owner at Tom Shell to discuss the sloppy work and a repair that now seems slightly higher than similar work done A family member informed me that the one technician was released for over-charging and they were having trouble getting good help Week later, owner finally calls - pretty much says it is what it is and he can send another technician to fix the door and change out the sink pop-up assembly. I have zero trust to have another employee of Tim Shell Plumbing in my house. I have a trusted certified Plumber that does great work and is AFFORDABLE - I'm moving on from Tom Shell. read more

request a new shut off valve and replacement of parts inside of toilet tank. Two plumbers came out and replaced the shut off valve and add a new supply line as well as a new fill tube. Didn't get a price till after the job was done ($305). Toilet was still running so another plumber came out and replace the overflow valve and a new gasket between the tank and bowl. Again never given a price till after the job was done. was charged this time $475.00 . So a total of $780. I talked to two other plumbers after the fact and a GC everyone said the job should have been between $300 -$400 dollars. Felt like I got over charged. Could have had a whole new Toilet put in for that price. The Plumbers were nice but way over priced. Make sure to get price from these people in writing before they do any work read more

Would not recommend. First, it Took two weeks to get someone out to my home. Second I was quoted $350 per toilet (I have 4 total) to replace the guts in the toilet tank. Even one hour labor at $95 plus parts for lest say $125 would be somewhat fine. But really Tom She'll? I purchased oem parts myself and replaced all parts within two hours as a person who never did this. I think they saw a nice house in a nice neighborhood and figured let's change an absorbent price. Not very professional, walked into my house for 2 seconds wasn't even finished explaining the issue. He walked out and started working on my mainline without discussing price or plan of action. Then walks back in 10 mins later with a very high bill. Will NEVER use these guys again. Mike was fantastic! We needed our sink/garbage disposal/dishwasher hooked up after a new countertop install. Mike was efficient, neat and on time. The job cost exactly what was quoted on the phone. We also wanted to tie into our coffee maker from the refrigerator line. Kuerig machine to do that was $$$ he designed and installed the line from the fridge with a shut off that is easy to operate and hidden from view. He even drilled a hole in the top of the coffee maker lid to accommodate the hose!!! Definitely a nice guy to deal with, reasonable prices and high quality work. read more

Tom Shell sent out two workers after our water heater gave out. They were at my house within 2 hours of calling. I asked for quotes for a conventional heater and an on demand heater. After getting both quotes I went with the on demand system. It was installed quickly and neatly. The price was exactly what I was quoted. This despite having issues removing my old system. The tech showed up and was pleasant. I had requested Roto-Rooter of my line and a sewer scope. I didn't receive either service. Instead, he took some hair out of my shower drain, switched out my shower stopper, and charged me $295. He was more concerned with picking up his kid from school than providing the services that were requested. At $295 for a shower stopper, it was probably best; at these prices, I would have needed to get a 2nd mortgage to pay for the rooter and scope. I do not recommend. read more

I made an appointment to have the waterline of my refrigerator fixed after a painter broke it. The gave me an appointment 3 days out. That day, after waiting all morning for them to show up, I got a call that they had to tend to an emergency. She wanted to schedule me out 5 days, but I insisted less time. I got 4. They weren't calling me during their scheduled time and when I called to see if they were still coming, I was told that they were, they were attending to ANOTHER emergency. But that they would still come. 3 hours later - past their "window" - they call to say no one is coming. No kidding!! My time is as valuable as theirs, and if they haven't got the decency to notify clients of problems, they aren't worth the phone call! Undependable! Don't try! read more

I would recommend these guys in a heartbeat. They are honest and will NOT rip you off. I had at least 4 plumbers come out to find out why my shower was draining slowly. Tom Shell and his son Dan were the ones who finally pinned down the exact problem. I had another plumbing problem where Dan had to get on top of my roof and run some kind of wiring to get the problem taken care of. Basically Tom Shell's guys aren't afraid to get sweaty and dirty if that's what it takes to get your problem fixed. They weren't afraid to answer my questions and weren't intimidated by me, which assured me they knew what they were doing. Tom Shell was also very kind and gave some helpful maintenance tips. As per the policy of Tom Shell Plumbing, the homeowner is to be quoted a price before the job is started. The 2 plumbers that did my work did not quote me a price until after the work was completed. I felt the price was extremely high. I asked one of the plumbers why the cost was so high and he told me that the 2 parts they replaced cost $70 each. I purchased the same 2 parts for another sink from Hydrologics for a total of $11.35. According to Tom Shell Plumbing, the price for each part included the labor and tax. If this included the labor and tax and there was no service call fee, then why was I charged another almost $200? And I was told I got a $36 discount. I found another licensed plumber, bonded and insured plumber in Tarpon Springs to complete the same work on another bathroom sink, including parts, for a total of $110. $110 compared to $338. I did not get any satisfaction from the person I spoke with at Tom Shell Plumbing regarding what I considered a gross overcharge. As a side note, I grew up with Tom, his brother Terry and his brother Tony. Our families socialized together. It pains me that I have to leave this review. read more

I had a faucet handle/knob in my bath that was leaking a considerable amount of water. I tried to close with a wrench to no avail and had to shut my water off. I was able to get someone on the phone right away and they were out to fix the problem , within a couple of hours, of my call. Beware of the Tom Shell Plumbing bait and switch scam. I asked for a repair estimate on my GE water softener with low water flow. The phone rep kindly said she would send a plumber to do an estimate. Tom's plumber came and told me "you can't get parts for GE, Whirlpool, Sears anymore". He left shortly after, and sent me a shocking estimate...$1800 for a whole new water softener, when it might have just needed a cleaning. Disgusted, I did some more research and discovered that the parts for these brands are largely interchangeable and widely used, and the truth is that aftermarket parts are readily available on Amazon. I confronted President Tom Shell who then wrote, "We can only work on Clack, Fleck and Autotrol... We never have, nor will we ever work on GE, Kenmore or Whirlpool," and added, "I would suggest calling a water softener company." So an implicit admission that there ARE parts available. Thanks Tom for telling me the truth, unlike your plumber. And when confronted about why the phone rep didn't tell me they only do the 3 brands, Tom wrote, "She does not know the difference between GE or anything else. She is not a plumber" So the conveniently "ignorant" rep lays the bait with the offer of a free "at your home" repair estimate, which really will be a replacement estimate. The lying plumber comes to your home and makes the switch, trying to convince you there's no option but to replace a 3 year old softener because there's "no parts". Finally, the conscienceless president offers no apology for his own company's wrongdoing, but only for mine, saying about my review, "I apologize that you feel the need to do that." I called Tom Shell Plumbing to come out and diagnose slow drains in my house. One of their guys called and said he'd be there in 30-45 minutes....he never showed. When I called the next day, they told me their guy should have said he wanted a call back to confirm I'd be there, but didn't. That day they said they'd be over within 2 hours. 4 hours+ later, three guys showed up - my mother was home, since i was at work. She said they were unprofessional looking, dressed in t-shirts and shorts. They apparently changed out all of the toilet parts on the inside of both tanks and cleared the drains in my sinks and bathtubs - $232. However, once they left I noticed some black spots on the wall (they made a mess of my newly painted bathroom) and one of the toilets is now running. Guess I'll have to fix that myself. My advice? The person next door reported a leak coming from my condo to hers. I didn't see how this could be. I checked everything, noticed a small amount of water in floor by bathtub which I assumed spilled from showering, i.e., curtain not pulled tight. However, I called Tom She'll plumbing to see if there was an actual leak. They arrived at appointed time, I discussed the issue with them, they checked everything thoroughly, and discovered a small leak at the commode which in time would flow toward the bathtub. They replaced the flapper and internal parts and made sure there was no leak. Dan said that there would be no charge until it was sure that repair solved the leak issue. This water somehow traveled at least 8 feet to cause an issue next door. After several days, the person next door said the issue was solved. Good work guys! read more

I noticed a leak in the wall between my master bath and laundry room one morning. I called at about 8:30 and Dan Shell, the "baby" of the family, arrived by 9:20- took a little square out of my laundry room wall, cut the leaky copper pipe out and had a new copper piece welded back in by 10am. He also repaired the drywall and I was ready the patch up the paint. I was so impressed with his straightforwardness and greatly appreciated his quick service!!
