My very first time visiting TRCC was this past Wednesday to meet up with friends who live nearby. Here is my experience: Customer Service: 4/10 I was pretty underwhelmed with the customer service. I do appreciate that the staff was diverse, but it seemed the staff wanted to be anywhere but where they were working. Facility: 8/10 This is a nice community center nestled near 119th street. I can tell a lot of the members live nearby and visit often. There were majority 65+ that were in the workout area or playing badminton in the gym. We came right at 11, so the crowd was more seasoned, which we enjoyed. As it got later in there day, more kids came to play basketball on the half court. Price: 10/10 For a day pass, the price is $5 which you cannot beat! Memberships are reasonable as well. Half-Courts: 2/10 We were there to play basketball with our friends. The courts are half-court, which is a bummer. Apparently, there was an issue with unruly kids a month ago, but not sure. We still had fun and nobody bothered us. Overall: 5/10 TRCC is just okay. Olathe Community Center is a lot nicer with more full courts and excellent customer service. I don't think I would visit again but I am happy that the folks living nearby have a facility to go to, especially the 65+ crowd. read more

I came here to use their game room. The cool thing was that they didn't charge for a day pass to play ping pong. We also used the pool table (75 cents), it jammed up on us but the staff was quick to fix it. I think OP is fortunate to have this facility. Looking at the rates it looks like it is very affordable to become a member. I'll definitely be back to use the game room again. read more

This is the most unfriendly fitness center I have ever attended in my whole sixty years of life. Especially the 8:00 am yoga class. I started going to this class about 2 1/2 years ago and attended most classes for the first year and a half. No one even acknowledged me. I tried to talk to a few people and got the cold shoulder. I thought it was just me. Then my sister who was going through chemotherapy for breast cancer came with me for about three months and no one spoke to her either. I quit going to the class. I just recently started going again because the center is so close to my house, but today was the last straw. Today I had to sit in the very back corner. There were three people around me. A man several spaces away starts yelling out to these three people that everyone was going to meet for coffee next week and they should come. Needless to say I was not asked to join them. I understand they don't have to ask me to join them, but they don't have to rub it in my face I wasn't invited. On the way out I asked the instructor if the class was offered at any other times. She asked why and I told her the class wasn't very friendly. She proceeded to tell me I was wrong and that her class was known for being friendly, and they even meet to have coffee together before class once a month. To make my experience even worse, she asked me if I come very often because she didn't recognize my face. I will not attend this class or go to Tomahawk Ridge Community Center ever again. And just in case you are thinking it was just me, I was visiting with a new friend, and we were talking about where went for yoga classes. When I said that I went to Tomahawk, she told me that she went once and never went back because the class was so unfriendly. read more

My family frequents this place. I give it 5 stars because it's very affordable and practical. I'm sure there are many great aspects of other bigger facilities but what is the point of paying so much more a month if you don't use all of the bells and whistles. The price is great considering we all get in these cycles where we end up unable (and sometimes unwilling:-) to come. They used to have bar coded cards but now they have finger scanners. The restrooms are always clean. There are a wide variety of equipment to help you with whatever your flavor may be. There are a bunch(6 LCD TV's) right in front of the treadmills with different frequencies posted on each. You can listen to each station by tuning your personal receiver(portable radio receiver) to the respective TV you want to listen to. There are a variety of classes (by various schedules during each day and week) which are like a few bucks ($5 I think) per class or $30 per month. My wife did the classes in the past. Basically, if you're going to do 2-3 classes a week it's probably better to get the unlimited monthly cost option, which is in addition to the free workout membership cost. These are of course resident costs. Non-residents pay more. If you are a member, they offer 2 hours of baby sitting service for $2 per child. The normal older lady in there is really nice. There is free wifi but it is spotty in some areas. I use Pandora over wifi via an IPhone app and it's okay 90% of the time. There were a few days where I got little to no wifi signal. Remember you have to agree to their terms of use (on Ur device) each time you access it, like any other place really. The staff is very nice too. They usually greet us when we come in and when we leave. There was a special membership promo last November so I wouldn't be surprise if there was another one this year, though the cost is pretty competitive already. read more

This place is great for the price. We have a family membership that we just renewed for our second year. It is $280 for an entire year, or you can pay $24/Month. That adds a whole $8 on to the annual cost. This price is for Overland Park residents. It is more if you not a resident. For this price, you get use of the fitness center which has numerous aerobic machines, weight machines and a free weights room, use of gyms for volleyball, basketball and badminton during open gym time and use of ping pong table. There is pool and a game room that is coin operated. Also, they provide towel service and there are showers and lockers.The facility is clean and kept up well. They have personal trainers, massage therapy and child care for an additional fee. If you want Aerobics classes, those are $30/month, $125 for 6 months or $225 for a year of unlimited classes. I have done those in the past and they have great instructors and a wide variety of classes. This place is not super crowded and people go here to work out rather than for face time. read more

I walked into TRCC to take a cycle class at 6:30. The drop in rate is $5 You literally cannot beat that drop in rate anywhere in KC. Trust me, I've looked. MRCC has the same prices. Anyway, when I walked in, the place looked really nice and clean. Their were youths playing ping pong and other things, and I noticed older people in the cardio area. It did not look full. There seemed to be a gap in age groups. Not a lot of people in their 20s/30s, but some teens and older people. Anyway, I walked in and had to wait a while at the front desk as the employees were helping other people. When it was my turn, I paid the $5 and was given a wristband. Apparently you need one on if you are taking a class. They offer towel service, so I grabbed and towel and asked where to go. She pointed me in the direction of the classroom. Not once did she ask if I had ever been there before or offer me a tour or anything, but that's ok, I was in a hurry because I was late for the class by this point. When I talked in the class, it was dark and the room was pretty cool. They had some glow lights on and the walls are painted dark and decorated with random street signs. The bikes were nice. They were Keisers. Those are my favorites to do cycle classes on anymore. They are just easy to operate and work well. Well, I got my bike set up and started pedaling, the class had already started and I could hear the instructor shouting out the next moves, but... I did NOT hear music. Apparently you have to have headphones to hear any music in this class. The instructor said they would give me some at the front desk. Thank goodness, because without music, a workout class is unbearable!!!! So, I went and got earphones, then finally got going again and the class was good. (This is the Thursday night at 6:30 cycle class). The instructor was encouraging and fun and I broke a sweat.... but not for that long. Apparently this class was only 45 minutes long. I did not see that on the schedule. I thought it was an hour. I was totally bummed as I had missed 6-8 minutes of it at the beginning already. ugh. After the class I asked the instructor if MRCC requires headphones, and she said they do not. So just remember them at TRCC and you're good. I gave it 3 stars because the workout was good, the instructor was good, but I think TRCC lacked on the communication process. I even called on the phone to inquire about the cycle class. They should have informed me the length and headphones requirement at that time. I am planning to get a membership at MRCC for classes only. (It's such a good deal, you can't beat the price)! So, hopefully I can get more information at that location! read more

Have addressed the staff a multitude of times over several weeks about how dirty all the equipment is in both the cardio area and the weights floor...cobwebs stringing from the equipment to the ceilings, treadmills so crusted that you can scratch your name on them, dirty carpets and dust bunnies everywhere. Many have listened and said "we've reported it" but as of yesterday, 2/22/2020, nothing has even been wiped off. read more

Very affordable workout option-- only $12/month if you sign up for a year. It has been recently remodeled and is really clean and contemporary. Bring your own padlock for the locker rooms and try to avoid coming immediately after work. It's not a huge gym, but it definitely gets the job done. read more

Beware!! A few months ago my boyfriend and I went to this gym to inquire about pricing and to get a tour. At that time the guy at the desk wrote our names down and took all our information, then gave us both free passes to come back and try out the gym. So tonight we decided to use those passes, give it a try then sign up. We were 99% ready to get the membership tonight after our workout if we were pleased. During the 2 months or so between the time we got our tour and today, I seem to have misplaced my free pass (my bf still had his though). So we get there and told the 5+ people sitting around the front desk that we wanted to use our free trial today and then most likely purchase the membership but that I misplaced my free pass somewhere. They said my bf could go in but I coudn't unless I paid $5. They absolutely refused to let me in and basically accused me of lying about even having one in the first place. I told them that the guy working when we stopped by a few months ago took all our info down but the woman said she could not find me in the computer so I couldn't go in. She added, "If we let everyone who said they had a pass enter, everyone would be giving it to their friends to use for free". If they would just consider their policy for a second they would realize that if they are so concerned about too many people using free passes then they should 1) organize people's info better and 2) record who used a free pass and when. That way, they would see that I had never used their gym. We walked out the door immediately. Sure, it's only a matter of $5 but I will not pay on principle alone. We will gladly join another gym, even if we have to pay more or drive further. Any business that chooses to lose $300 over $5 does not seem to know what they are doing anyway. read more

Every gym is different but for me this is the best one. I am not into any truly unique exercise experiences so a generic gym works fine for me. The cardio area is large and the locker rooms are nice enough. The only reason I do not give a 5 star is because the size of the weight lifting area but luckily it is not too busy during the times I decide to go. The main reason I like this place so much is because the only thing I truly want as a perk for a gym is a basketball court. They have that... and it is at such a low price membership compared to any other gym that has that option. Almost 1/4 less than big chain gyms and that isn't counting all the extra fees those big gyms have. Great gym for price and would recommend. I do not do classes but they have a lot of them if that is what you are into. read more

I am very lucky to have such an amazing community center practically at the end of my street. We came into TRCC for the first time last year to vote, since this is our designated voting location. I was shocked at how spacious and clean it is, and how much it has to offer. It has recently gone under extensive renovations. It is nice to see your tax dollars at work! The exercise area has been more than tripled, so there are plenty of machines available. What I really like are the group exercise classes. I have done yoga and cycling so far, and they are just as good as a traditional yoga and cycling studio. The fact that you can drop in on any class for only five dollars is impossible to beat. I recently found out that through my company, I can get a membership for only $25 a month, so I will definitely be doing that, which will save me $125 a month over my gym membership. What I really like is how you get the sense of community here. Seeing different races and different cultures using the community center for family gatherings and potluck, kids playing ping pong, or watching the game on the large flat screen, is satisfying. I also really like how local art on display and available for purchase. I used to belong to sister Matt Ross Community Center, when I lived in North OP, and it's just as good. OP should be really proud of its community centers. read more
