George Self was a great, personable guide with a lot of knowledge about Tombstone and it's history. The only reason for 4 stars is because the trolley was crazy hot! No air and even with the windows open, it was uncomfortable.

Its location is superb, within walking distance of good restaurants and major tourist attractions. The bed was extremely comfortable, better than at a high-priced hotel we visited later in our trip. I liked our room's high ceilings. The motel's decor is very 1980's but very clean and comfortable. Our room had a refrigerator and a microwave; my sister-in-law had a fridge but no microwave. We had a wall-mounted clothes rack, my sister-in-law may have had a closet. Our room was farther from the road and very quiet; my sister-in-law was closer to the road and had some noise. Each room has two wood rocking chairs outside the door, under a large overhang offering sun and rain protection. The people sitting outside are friendly. Our room had a comfortable sofa with a movable floor lamp. We had a nightstand with a good reading light on one side of the bed. I don't know whether we could have moved the floor lamp over to the other side of the bed. The motel is close to downtown Tombstone and these major attractions to which we walked: the Courthouse Museum, the Bird Cage Theatre (museum), the Rose Tree Museum, the Crystal Palace bar, Big Nose Kate's Saloon, the Longhorn restaurant, Undertaker's Coffee, Cowboy Coffee Bar, gunfights on Allen St, carriage rides on Allen St., various shops, etc. Here are some places farther away that we would probably have needed to drive to. Boothill Cemetery is one of them.

Every mine tour I've been on has been different and it's fun to see how they do it. With this tour, you are on the ground level and take a tram into the mine. You get off at various spots, but you won't do very much walking (there is a short flight of stairs to one of the stops). The tour guides are very knowledgeable and seems as if some of them actually had worked in the mine. Being a miner is definitely one of the most difficult, dirty, dangerous and labor intensive that a person can do, and it does make you appreciate how much work and effort it takes to extract any metal or mineral from a mine. The tour does a great job of explaining the process and how technology advancements changed over time from the late 1800's until the mine closed in 1975 Practical Information: 1. Make a reservation online, in advance. Traveling to Brisbee and finding out that you either you have to wait several hours for an open tour, or that they are sold out for the day is NOT something you want. 2. It's really not cold in the mine, since the part you visit is not underground, so you might want a sweatshirt or a light jacket, but that's about all. 3. Don't be late because once the tour starts, you forfeit your place if you aren't there when they leave. 4. The actual tour is about an hour.

It ambles along with a shimmy and shake through beautiful scenery over remarkable terrain. Side trips are in rural areas with rough, often dirt, roads. We appreciated the small, rather rugged, touring vans. That being said it is worth every shake and bump. CBX is a GREAT crossing. (I recommend staying in San Diego rather than Otay Mesa as there are very limited services, like restaurants, available.) TIJ is a beautiful, modern, efficient airport. LMM is also a fine airport and the guide(s) had us on our way in no time. The guide and drivers were knowledgeable, personable and professional. Full of details and history each excursion was a delight. Helpful and concerned, our guide followed up and worked through a medical emergency in the group. It was not a foodie experience. The included meals were adequate though uninteresting for the most part. We enjoyed the whole experience.

Below is my description by email to CCMS after the trip. Their response was I should have read the fine print which gives them the right to change anything on the trip. I want to clarify that a phone call was made 3 days before the trip and were assured that the travel days would be in a luxury tour bus with a restroom. I also want to clarify that every person on this trip complained about the van from day 1 until the end. From my email: The description of the trip clearly states that we will be traveling on a deluxe coach bus for the duration of our trip (except for train travel days). Instead of a deluxe coach bus we were traveling in a small Sprinter van with 15 people on the tour, a tour guide and a driver. It was crowded and very uncomfortable. Some of the seats didn't even have access to a window so these people were not even able to see the scenery. My husband, who is 6'3", couldn't fit his legs between his seat and the seat in front of us. He had to sit sideways with his legs in the aisle sometimes for 8 hours at a time. The Sprinter was also a very rough ride. All of the people who wore step trackers were "tracking" thousands of steps while sitting in the van due to the bouncing and rough ride. My personal best was 17,000 steps while never actually walking. Also, being in a small van versus a deluxe coach bus meant we didn't have access to a restroom. Of course, this was uncomfortable and stressful since we never knew when we would be stopping for a restroom break. Our guide was not proactive in planning stops. We normally had to ask and then it could be an hour or more before the stop was feasible. My husband and I had been planning this trip for years and were very excited. The travel in the Sprinter van basically ruined this trip for us. We were uncomfortable in the seats. Uncomfortable not having access to a restroom. Disappointed in the false advertising for the trip transportation descriptions. The group complained about the van from the very beginning of the trip. We were told the night before we were to leave that we would not have a bus but would be in this small van instead. As you can imagine, everyone was upset and was asking for answers to why this change had been made. We never received an answer but were given some vague promises of a deluxe coach bus being delivered to us somewhere along the route. Guess when this happened? On the very last day after we crossed the border. So we were on a bus (which was wonderful) for about 3-4 hours. I estimate we spent 40-50 hours in the van. Our tour guide also suggested that we "switch around seats" after stops. Why would this help? All the seats were horrible. All were uncomfortable. Every other tour group we crossed paths with had a deluxe tour bus including another CCMS tour group. It became a joke to stand beside other tour groups buses and talk about how wonderful their trip must be compared to ours.

Yelp Review for Tucson Mountain Tour (On Behalf of Susan)…read more Unfortunately, my first visit to Arizona was nearly derailed due to an extremely disappointing experience with Tucson Mountain Tour. I was quoted a round-trip rate of $210 from Tucson Airport to Pima, AZ by the owner--a price far below industry standard, which initially seemed like a blessing. However, after confirming with someone named Timothy and being told he would follow up, I never received a return call. This happened one day before my flight from Savannah, Georgia, leaving me scrambling for alternative transportation. Thankfully, I found a compassionate provider who honored the quoted rate just so I wouldn't have to cancel my trip to see an ailing cousin. What should have been a $700+ round trip was generously matched by someone who put my situation first--something I had hoped Tucson Mountain Tour would do. The lack of professionalism, courtesy, and follow-through was disheartening. No one should be left hanging, especially after committing to travel plans based on what seemed to be a reliable arrangement. As an educator who works with autistic children, I value communication and integrity--qualities that were sadly lacking here. I sincerely hope Tucson Mountain Tour reflects on this experience and chooses to treat future travelers with greater respect and reliability."
