After ordering a combination to go...I went to get some salsas but they were out of the plastic to go containers in that area next to it. So I ask the lady working at the cashier about it and she ask 'are you sure?' I said yes, only the tops were there and a lot of them. She then gave me one container like are you serious?!? I get this feeling she knew it was out but was just being condescending. Like who cares since I have salsa at home. Anyways, the beef taco and cheese quesadillas combination with bean and rice were good. Comes with a free bag of chips which was just okay. Had my favorite dish, the fish taco. I've been getting 2 and they have been great. I've never had a problem. There were some omicron infections in the family, we tested negative but ended up saying home for Easter Sunday. Well, it's fish taco day for me! That sure helped me get over the big spread we missed. Had my taco on soft flour tortillas and they were yummy. Ate 2 which is a lot for me. Have not been here for years, kind of fell off our radar. But now with quarantine and business closures we decided to at least support local shops as much as possible. We were really happy with our food, everything was fresh and delicious, well packaged for pick up and self distancing was practiced. We called in for a pick up order today and the person who answered the phone was very polite and seemed to understand the order. However, when we picked up the order, it was not correct. We ordered a burrito with only Carnitas, rice, and beans and they included guacamole and salsa with cilantro (so the burrito was too moist). We also order a Carne Asada burrito and received a chile relleno burrito. The third thing we ordered was Torta Mexicana and it was sort of moist and the fries were not that warm. This restaurant was clean and the service was pleasant, but I am pretty sure I won't call again for a pick up order. Because this restaurant received official thanks for being an immediate responder during the 2017 Northern California fires (see photo), I will come back and dine in. I'm rating 3 stars because of the lady with glasses that was at the cashier, she is very rude to the customers and has a bad attitude. Not friendly like the other Mexican restaurants I've been. The food is actually very good. Now I don't know if she own the business but if she does not I as a customer suggest the owner to talk to her or tell her goodbye. Pretty bad service. Ordered a chipotle burrito, chicken bowl and one street taco. We were one table out of three that ordered for dine in and it took over 40 minutes to get served. The chips were solid (2 stars), but I won't be coming back. read more

$18 for the most average, bland, and underwhelming burrito I've had in California. Maybe it's because I've lived in Southern California the last 5 years but I remember the food tasting better. The burrito was kind of lazily constructed, ingredients weren't mixed very well. Bantos with shredded beef, but in reality it was a few chunks of dry meat, runny sour cream, a hint of guacamole, and a lot of rice and beans. The burrito was long but not very sturdy, and for $18 I genuinely don't know I'll ever want to return. The service was wonderful and the restaurant itself is well kept. Driven past many times and never even really noticed this place, but it came recommend and was pretty good. My fajita platter looked beautiful, but it came out almost fifteen minutes after my friend's dish, which made the dining experience a little disjointed. It was also missing the salsas I'd asked for. I discovered Tommy's Salsa this past year as our company moved to a new building in Novato. I finally found a great local family owned restaurant that I just love and crave about. My favorite thing about Tommy Salsa is the quality of the food, beside how fresh it tastes is that the entire dish comes out piping out! My go to order is #11 which is a combo dish of 1 chicken enchilada in a green chili Verde sauce with a carnitas taco. Of course if comes with beans, rice, chips & bean dip. I found myself banished to a distant town, far far away from any semblance of Mexican culture. Then there was Tommy's Salsa. Sombrero on the wall, genuine Mexican "Day of the Dead" art i.e skulls, arranged in a way that made me feel like the small space was just in fact cozy, familiar, genuine. Then comes the beans. (with salsa and cheese) Now I can't over state how important this part is. As someone who has been up and down Mexico, in rural towns, a side of beans with a little salsa and cheese on top is often presented with chips at dinner. Most of our local "bonafide" Mexican restaurants (which are in San Diego) do not follow this custom. I've eaten here over 2 dozen times, food is good, BUT do not come after lunch, if the wife isn't here they can't get it right. No matter how many times I try, after lunch, is just bad accompanying poor service. Lots of options, so many different choices of burritos. I went with the burrito bowl, it definitely wasn't a Chipotle knockoff. The ingredients were super fresh, portion size was huge. The only complaint I had was the cut of meat. I chose chicken and was given a few large pieces that had lots of fat, for the price I expected breast meat. That's something that drives me crazy... The burritos here are great, the carne asada is really good as is the carnitas, and my wife loves the ground beef. One day I need to try the chicken. This little place has some of the best burritos in Novato. Their biggest burrito, "The Bronto" challenged my stomach to a full on cage match complete with rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole, and many other wrapped delights. The thing was over a foot long, and I only barely survived the battle. The service was great, and the employees are pretty friendly. Orders take a little while longer than most Mexican places, but its worth the wait. We have been going to Tommy Salsas since the first day they opened. We miss the original owners, but the new owners have done a good job being consistent with the things they need to be and offering new items to the menu as well. One item that could use more consistency is the Chicken Soup. The first few times we had this, wow...it was an amazing bowl of comforting goodness. Rich, flavorful chicken broth with all the fixings was super delicious. We try to get this regularly because it's so delicious. At times, it seems they must run out of this soup, so instead of the drumsticks you usually get with meat that falls off the bone, you might get fajita chicken pieces instead - which changes the flavor of the soup, but it's still good. Recently, it seems they have run out of soup and they will pour more water into the pot, bring it to a boil and when we eat the soup, it tastes like water, flavorless and flat. When they run out, I'd rather them say, we are out and I can order something else instead of a very disappointing bowl of watered down flavorless soup for $11. read more
