It's been long overdue to leave a review for Tom's Model. Let me start off by saying Tom is one of the coolest and sweetest guys he's always soo chill and nice. My bf and I loose track of time talking to him in here. Coming into the store is a little overwhelming at first because there is literally pops everywhere you turn, but you are sure to find a pop or two. Coming here can be a little nerve wrecking at first because it's not it the best area a little sketchy but it's worth it... Overall we keep finding ourselves coming back because of Tom himself he's good people. (Ps. You have to call the number for them to open the front door) read more

My, oh, my. This place is awesome! For POP collectors you want to visit this place. Items are either $5.99 for the common POPS and some also vary on the rarity of it. They do consignment as well which are located on the cases in the front of the store. BIG, HUGE caution is the location of the place. Be careful when going there. I was in Little Tokyo and needed some place to go to at 9:30 am since many Little Tokyo stores weren't opened yet. Tom's Model came up and I was excited. I am more familiar with the small Funko collectibles (which they don't carry). But this place amazed me! A whole small storefront of Funko Pop. I loved the Harry Potter ones. I really didn't need anything, but the Disney ones caught my eye. The owners were really nice. They suggested an exclusive they had to the Disney one I purchased. Wow, years ago, I would've gotten into collecting these. But if you do, come here, it is in a sketchy neighborhood, unfortunately, because of the homeless situation in LA. Aisles of Pop! Aisles of Pop! Located a block from LA's Skid Row literally on the corner of 5th and Crocker is this amazing Funko Pop! store. Streets are lined with homeless tents, and you really feel that you made a mistake. Don't let that deter you!! There's metered parking off 5th Street, and the meter takes credit card. An hour cost $1.00 I think. Also street parking off 4th, that are non metered and if you are lucky there's some spaces in the store's private lot located behind the building off 5th. When you walk to the store front, you'll be greeted by a gate. It's unlocked so pull it open. You may have to avoid a homeless person parked on the sidewalk. Once inside you'll gasp at the amount of Funko Pop. Did I mention aisles of Pop!? They're separated by types: Disney, Movie, TV, pop culture and in the middle are aisles of discount Pop, about $5.99. Common ones run $10.95 and the chase or grails can be higher than the Pop pricing guide. If you can offset your shopping with the bargain ones, splurge and get the grail. Tom also has his exclusive Mulan and Cricket Funko Pop for $15. Give them a stop, if you need Funko Pop! They have online store, but Tom said prices are cheaper in house. read more

I was just there today. First,.when you get there, take few steps back from the black gate before calling for someone. When I had called for someone, a large dog ( think it was a German Shepherd ) came running out and started barking at me. I was startled but an employee came out and took the dog inside. They said the crime in the area has gotten worse lately in the area and a guard dog helps. I was allowed to go in and immediately a store employee assisted me. He was very helpful in finding what I had wanted. I ended up buying 3 Funko Pops, a Batman, Capt. Kirk and a doctor / nurse figure. 2 of those he was nice enough to find them for me. I do not collect Funko but I bought them as gifts. They have a large selection and good prices. The neighborhood is not the greatest but go there during the day and it's okay Go check them out. read more

This place is AMAZING!!!! I came across is since I work down the street and immediately stopped and asked if they were open due to their being a gate. The owners said yes and I quickly went inside. Really a hidden gem! Found in a quiet corner on the street , don't be deterred by how it looks on the outside. This shop has the largest collection I've seen so far Rows upon rows of Funko. If you can't find what you are looking for, don't be afraid to ask. The staff helped me take out the older rarer stock from the backroom and I was spoilt for choice. They do have a couple of rare older collections , super worth the visit! The staff was also very polite and patient as I asked for the price for quite a couple of them and didn't feel pressured to get them all. They were also nice enough to try and clean one of the figurines that had a stain on it Will definitely come back next time! Great collection & great service ! read more

If you love Funko Pop's then you're really going to love this place. It's huge and then there are a ton of pops. I don't think I've ever seen so many pops in one location. It's pretty nutty! The big problem is the location is a bit sketchy. There are about a hundred tents around the area with homeless people living in it. Hell, the place even has an iron gate that you have to pass through that's even closed during business hours. We weren't even sure if they were open for a minute. Also, it's a bit stuffy in here and doesn't smell too healthy and it gets a bit warm. Still, it might be worth a few it to find a pop at a great deal. It's a Funko Pop mecca! Overall, a nice little spot, but be warned in advance of the actual location. read more

Tommy is a great guy with a great personality and great business skills! Came in looking for Gundam kits, which he has a decent amount of. Came on 12/30/15 and saw a lot of high grades and real grades, but no master grades unfortunately (he says they'll have them at the end of 1/16). Of the kits he did have, there was a large variety of older and newer kits. Some old Wing models mixed with some newer Build Fighters kits, etc. I honestly liked the kits he carried more than the ones Anime Jungle had, but that's all subjective. I walked out with a Gundam G Self Perfect Pack at an AMAZING price. Besides Gundams, the walls were filled to the brim with Pop figures. If you collect Pop, Tom's is the place to go. He also carries a few Warhammer things and some other generic toys. The area around the shop is a bit run down. A lot of homeless people. If you are walking there from the center of Little Tokyo it might really throw you off guard your first time. They keep their gate closed but unlocked while they're open (maybe for security reasons) so just slide it open when you come through. Overall, what really makes this place special is the customer service. Being treated so well really makes you want to support this guy; I probably wouldn't have bought anything if I wasn't so delighted with the service. Gundam collection isn't the large (yet), but Pop is abundant. Neighbourhood is a bit less clean, but the trip is definitely worth it. I'm definitely coming back at the end of January because I know he's gonna have a lot more great stuff that is worth buying. read more

Found out about this place through facebook after searching for the exclusive Mushu Pop! Upon visiting the store, its located on the corner of 4th, the front entrance is gated and closed, but remains unlock during store hours. The environment is very welcoming, someone was in the front to greeting all the customers, then asks what me looking for. I was looking for that exclusive pop to add to my collection. He had it displayed by the front counter, and while he went to get me a new one I wandered through the rest of the store. Which is organized very well. All the Pops were displayed in the their own little sections, and I realized I'm not even close to collecting them all. Sad I can't wait to return to add to my collection. read more

This place is a toy mecca. Just wow! I am not a big collector. I actually only own 3 pops but decided to tag along here with my friends and I'm so happy I did. It was an awesome experience - the staff is very warm and welcoming and the entire showroom is just beautifully stocked with all kinds of toys and funko pops. Aisle after aisle, floor to ceiling. Tom's Model offers a wide selection of new and recent Funko Pop toys and other collectibles, combining that with friendly service, great prices, and tops it off with a good online presence. Just... Don't stick around when it gets dark. Pros: + Huge selection of pops + Online presence + Great prices on older pops Cons: - Specialty shop, so other items are limited - Be prepared to pay more for exclusive pops - Terrible location after dark Discovered by fluke/coincidence, but I do love dropping by when I can. Tom's Model is a specialty store with aisles and aisles of Funko Pop toys and other collectibles like Gundam models and other Funko products nestled right outside of LA's skid row. Street parking is your only option so prepare accordingly. Once you've braced for that, you're going to find yourself in a minimalist store, surrounded by Funko pops of almost every kind. Along the walls are newer/more popular items, and these are (on last check) $12 each-- also known as retail price, for the most part. It's slightly more expensive thanplaces like Target or Walmart, but you're 1) supporting a family business 2) getting a huge selection. The aisles carry older pops but are bargain priced at (last check) $6. You're not going to find collector's or limited editions here-- those are at the front behind a glass case. You'll be paying secondary market prices for those. Even with that, you'll still be able to find harder-to-locate items every now and then, and complete your collection. If there is a rare pop you're looking for, the store facilitates peer-to-peer trades. Let them know and they'll put feelers out for you, including on their website. read more

Cool store, bad customer service. Did not send the quantity ordered, emailed 3 times no reply. They seem to reply to their Instagram account a lot more than their emails. Instead of shipping the items missing they refunded me without any explanation. Checked their website and items are still in stock. Why not ship the items missing? read more

Tommy is the most genuine, helpful, knowledgeable shop owner I've ever met! If you're looking for Kid Robot, Funko Pops, or other toy collectibles, definitely visit this shop, Tommy will take care of you for sure. So get this, my boyfriend and I live in San Diego and were on our way to Tom's Model on a Saturday afternoon. I was Yelping for a place to shop for Funko Pops a week ago, and Yelp, one of the best things that's ever happened to my life, came up with this place. So we headed up there the first free weekend we had, and me being stupid, did not look at store hours before we started heading up there. To my dismay, when I checked the hours (they close at 12 noon on Saturdays) they were supposed to be closed already! I was heartbroken. BF urged me to call the shop, he thought maybe Yelp was wrong because the hours were so odd. I kept telling him Yelp's never wrong!!... I finally caved in and gave them a call. Tommy picked up, he said they were actually closed but he will be at the shop for another hour sending out shipments so we can stop by. We eventually told him we were coming from San Diego so it's at least an hour and a half. He said he'd go get lunch and come back, since we were coming all the way from SD he didn't want to disappoint us! Tears of joy, a billion Thank Yous, and an hour and a half later... we made it!! We rolled up and parked across the street (it's on a street corner) we were thinking "omg this place is so sketchy!" One second we're cruising through Little Tokyo and one left turn later there were homeless people's stashes of stuff all over the streets and the doors and windows in the area had bars on them. I'm going to be honest, as I parked I was a little scared my car would get stolen. Tommy met us at the front and reopened the shop just for us, and in we went. The shop was awesome! Tons of toy collectibles and a great Pop collection. I picked up about 7 or 8 Pops that were missing from our collection (BF and I are proud owners of just over 100 Funko Pops as of yesterday). I loved that the prices were very reasonable and the Pop figures were in PERFECT mint condition. Seriously every single figure had very negligible to no paint defects, every box had very sharp corners, clean boxes/screens, looking virtually untouched. I mentioned this to Tommy and he let us know that he was very picky about the toys he sells, being a collector himself, he will send back any sub-par product. As an in-box collector, I really appreciate this! We could tell he genuinely enjoyed what he does, and that he really loved having customers that were collectors to share his passion with. We really appreciate that he loved sharing his vast knowledge with newbie toy collectors like us; you can ask him about release dates, sets, exclusive and he'll know all about it! I could write another 3 pages on why Tommy is awesome and how much I love his shop, but I'll just leave it at that for now. :) Anyway my point is you should definitely stop by!!! read more

This place is awesome. A friend and I drove out here about two weeks ago to check out their Pop selection and we where not disappointed. To be honest I never owned a Pop, but after walking thru Toms I went home with my first 3 pops and are now hooked. Tommy was super helpful and took the time to show us all kinds of cool stuff. I don't believe in giving bad stars because that's just rude, but i really did not like coming to this store. It's in a terrible area parking is horrible and scary. The icing of my terrible cake was the pops are soooo over priced. I bought one for 250.00 when in reality should have been sold for 200.00 tops!!! but it was a gift for a special person. I do not recommend this place at all. Most of the pops i wanted to purchase on display were not for sale. Then why have them out??? My boyfriend and I just started collecting this year. We have been searching for local places to go to for our funko pops without resorting to stores at the mall. I found this gem of a place (Tom's Model) a few days ago and decided to stop by after calling the store to ask about their funko pop collection. I was informed that they had over 400 pops in stock! Anyway, before I type too much.. All I have to say is that the staff was helpful from the moment we walked into the store! Tom himself approached us a little after we started walking around and helped us all the way through out our visit! You can tell he takes his time to speak with each customer and genuinely listens to what his customers are looking for. Tom's Model will be seeing us again at least once a month for sure! Came here for gundam models and funko pops. It seemed like they were going toward selling more funkos now, because the gundam selection was quite limited, whereas the funko selection was HUGE. All over their walls. They mostly sell commons (some being harder to find, and a lot of the newly released pops as well). They also had chases placed in the front of the shop behind the glass. Not sure how much those go for. There are some pops that are specially priced for $5 as well. One thing I have to say is that for in box collectors, this is your heaven. I haven't seen a single ding or dent in any of the funko boxes they have there. Every single one of them looks perfect, As to why I'm only giving 4 stars: 1. Location and parking: very sketchy place that I wouldn't want to come alone. Street parking only is what I've been seeing from most reviewers. Also, on a personal reason, I'm not that familiar with the streets in LA, and got lost trying to find parking. 2. Pricing: In terms of the gundam, I didn't like how they didn't put prices on the gundams, and you had to go ask them for the prices of each one. A bit of a hassle for me and for them. Sometimes I want to buy an item based on the price I see, and I would feel bad having to ask for a price, not be satisfied with it, and put it down. No pricing for the funkos either, but I saw another reviewer say its $11 each. Overall, amazing place- the people working there are very friendly as well. read more

So I started collecting Pops when a friend gave me my first Snoopy Pop (Avid Snoopy Collector since birth lol). Then I went on to get the Dark Crystal pop set with Chase pop being my first of the collection (so cool even tho I didn't know in the beginning lol) once that set was complete on to the next. Now about the store, So it seems every Morning my TV turns the channel to spectrum 1. Toms models was being spotlighted and when I how packed his store was with pops I went that same day. Heard about Tom's after reading some reviews on certain F&S sellers. I couldn't be more happy that I finally went there. Yes it's not in the best part of downtown but the folks outside don't hassle you. Now as far as inventory...this place is unbeatable. It had walls and walls of Funko Pops! that were super organized and "reachable". The inventory of Disney and Star Wars was crazy. I as free to walk around and take it all in. Tom Jr. is beyond awesome. Being a collector himself he gets the collector and our OCD about color, boxes, etc. They also had things I've pre-ordered and will be waiting until April to get. Lesson learned is I will never pre-order again. Their prices are comparable if not less than other retailers and again you can pick the ones you want. Just found out they have a website so I'll be checking that out as well. read more

Amazing selection of Pop Vinyls, well organized,great service. Tommy was super helpful and friendly. If you can't find what you're looking for, just ask, they have a lot in the back and they are happy to grab stuff for you. They leave their metal gate closed while they're open, just pull it open and come in. Neighborhood's a little run down, lots of homeless folks, maybe bring a friend if that kind of place makes you uncomfortable. But don't let the area discourage you. This was my 1st visit to Tom's as I would see it often driving down from the financial district. Tom's is chalk full of Funko's, rare funkos to more streamline funkos. The best way I can define Tom's Model is think back to John Cusack's movie High Fidelity the record shop. It's like the nerdy Funko pop shop not worried much about the aesthetics but focus more on the merchandise. Funny you can quickly identify regulars. I wasn't disappointed at all just take your time walking through all the aisles and scanning all around for those unique funkos. Omg what an amazing store in downtown! I've never seen such wide variety of POPS! Was walking by but once I entered - didn't want to leave. Super organized - great family run toy store. They have very nice stuff, wide choice of fun toys and super friendly service! I really enjoyed my time there and was helped to get the right gift for my friend's kids.
