Walking into Tom's Thumb by Cornelius Nursery feels like stepping into a lush, peaceful forest. Tom's has been around on the Island for decades. If you love plants this is the kind of place where you could get happily lost for a while. The staff was so welcoming and friendly, which made my visit even more enjoyable. I found a beautiful Golden Pathos that felt like it had been waiting just for me. Bringing home new plants is one of my favorite ways to spark joy in my home. For the size of the plant the cost was reasonable. I'll definitely buy from them again. Wanted to buy local and have extensive landscaping of my home property in Galveston. I called three times in 2 weeks to make an appointment with Dana and can't get a call back. So I went with a nursery off the island for $15,000. You snooze you lose. I bet I saved thousands of dollars and will get the job done promptly. Love to relax and shop at the one in Galveston. It's a great place to buy our plants.

Extremely overpriced on everything. The clearance rack was looking like Lowe's reduced plants. Dead and crispy for 20% off. It's quite relaxing with the music, but the prices left me scarred. The hibiscus were smiling with their beautiful blooms. The variegated thyme was nice. They had displayed gardens of plants that could have been in stock, but wasn't. What a waste. The pottery was beautifully covered in dust and cobwebs with a sky high tag attached to it. The succulent area was nice to see. This nursery definitely only for the eye to see, but not for the hands to shop. read more

I truly enjoy coming here! The place is beautiful and they have a lot of selection in plants, trees, flowers, bushes, patio furniture, you name it, they most likely have it. They had several items 50% off and we got a pair of beautiful bougainvilleas for less than $15 for the pair. read more

I will not be back to this nursery. I frequent many nurseries all over the Houston area and have visited Tom's Thumb countless times. This business called me to let me know a plant I'd been wanting was in. Days later I called them back to ensure they still had it before making the drive down to Galveston. Staff on the phone assured me they did. I get to the nursery only to see they are closed to the public which in my opinion was a VERY important piece of information you would want to share with customers you are calling to let them know a plant is available and ones who are calling you asking availability because typically that would be an indicator they are coming to get it. The staff here has been short and rude once before (not all) just a certain few and even their own staff members outside acknowledged the person inside "is just that way sometimes". I brushed it off and continued to purchase from this nursery. Not this time. I called asking how do you get in when I arrived and about the plant only to be told they did not have it and she said we are closed to the public, it's all over social media and our website. I said you called me and I called you, I wasn't on your website, you'd think you'd share that detail and she proceeded to say our phone call had gotten cut off which was absolutely inaccurate and that I should have paid and ordered by phone (even though that important information never came up). The way in which this business chooses to speak to and interact with customers is just not good business. Too inconsistent and just downright condescending and rude at times. Sharing your current business plan right now with folks you call and who call you seems important especially when you advertise open 9-3. I even asked what time they close and still was not told they are closed to the public and I'd have to order and pay by phone now. read more

Called newly re-opened ,under new owners, Tom's Thumb and was abruptly greeted on phone. Asked about their one day vegetable sale , about which she knew nothing. Asked another staff member for info about sale, told me yes it is only today. Asked about lettuces, had to ask someone else again and now sounded irritated. Thanked her and she just hung up, no thank you no goodbye. Suggestion: Train your staff to be friendly and courteous, or why did you bother buying the previous owners out? We don't take well to rude strangers in Galveston. Bless your hearts! read more

staff is not friendly. when I ask questions, it seems that I am bothering them. no one is smiling or greeting shoppers. I bought a bag of mulch and a worker just left it sitting on sidewalk for me load myself. I live in this neighborhood and wish that I enjoyed visiting and shopping there. The staff is always friendly and extremely helpful- we always seem to find our way to pickup plants 30-45 minutes before closing- no big deal- the employees are happy to help! This is my Milkweed "go to" place for my Monarch caterpillars- they use organic products and do not spray with insecticides so I don't have to worry about poisoning my caterpillars. It's a little on the pricey side and a bit of a drive for me but I know I can count on Tom's Thumb to have what I need. Oh, and my bf was SUPER excited about the ghost pepper plant that he scored! Very nice nursery with excellent choice of gifts. They have bedding plants, herbs, veggies, palms, shrubs, lawn furniture, bulbs, seeds, and garden supplies. I was really impressed with how healthy the plants were. The displays worked in other items from all over the store so that you could get ideas for your garden. Prices were reasonable. This is the place to go if you want something more than the large retail chain store plants. read more

The plants are nice but I had a terrible experience with a worker; I am 30 months (visibly) pregnant and she refused to let me use the restrooms claiming they didn't have one?? Then, when I went to go pay, she purposely stepped up close to me then said I needed to step back because I wasn't 6 feet away from her . I am a very easy going person but I was shaking mad at how incredibly rude and inconsiderate this lady was. My family has spent a lot of money at this nursery but they have now lost our business. They are A little pricey but have some really cool and unique things. I was so excited to find ghost pepper plants here also. I have found the missing ingredient to my homemade hot sauce. If you like gardening and getting fun ideas it's worth stopping to see everything. The staff is always helpful and nice. They wrapped the plants in plastic and help me carry them to the car.
