Sent something to my boss and had it shipped - really took care of it to make sure it gets there in one piece!

What a treat! Our family took a cruise and decided to trek a little further than the main road and stumbled upon this wonderful gem! Tam and Donald really took care of us to make sure we got everything we needed on our list! Definitely making sure we come back every time we're here!

Cute little gift shop owned by a local Ketchikan family! A few blocks up from the ocean on a quiet street, it's similar to every other gift shop minus the cheap crap. Sure it still has the totem polls, wooden masks, animal carvings, statues and jewelry but it doesn't have the cheap "Made in China" produced by the millions souvenirs. I'm sure not everything is made in Alaska, but at least it all looks and feels authentic Alaskan. The small shop also has a great selection of everything that they carry. Wooden masks line the walls, totem polls fill all the shelves, figurines fill up the entire middle of the store and there are jewelry cases lining the outside chock full of jewelry. Prices were comparable to other gift shops, and employees seemed friendly. I would stop by again when in Ketchikan; its better than most of the tourist gift shops in town and owned by a local family which is a plus.

Tom's Treasures has a really nice selection of locally made totem poles, whose supply from local artists they said is starting to dry up.

When I travel to new places, I always seek out any independent bookstores in search for books on…read morethe local area. I was so happy to find Parnassus Books in Ketchikan during a recent Alaskan cruise. This was one of our first stops after my wife & I disembarked our ship. It was still early in the day, so there weren't too many patrons in the shop. The store was quite large for a small town, so we spent a good amount of time walking through the place and browsing the shelves. While I read mostly non-fiction, I was pleased to find a section of fiction books written by local authors. I purchased one that was autographed and plan to enjoy it when I get back home. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the store was well organized and clean, with the all the shelves clearly labeled. This was the best bookstore we visited during our Alaskan trip.

Whether you're looking for a light vacation read, gift, or something educational about Alaska and its people, this is worth a stop. We found books to bring home to our kids that we didn't see in any other store and that they'll enjoy longer than a typical souvenir. Friendly staff and easy to navigate layout.
