One of the employees (bald and Caucasian) walks over from the counter, snatches the booklet out of her hands, and aggressively snaps at her saying, "Keep your hands to yourself and don't touch anything! This is not a store for kids!" Note, this is a store with Star Wars posters on their doors and jigsaw puzzles. My daughter and I were a bit shaken, but I said a quick sorry, and then it hit me - this kind of behavior was completely rude and inexcusable and I felt like I should have defended her and told him to back off. But then I realized if it happened to us, chances are this was not an isolated or unique incident. The same will or has already happened to others who visited this store. If they continue this kind of behavior, they are going to hit someone's else's nerve who doesn't have the same restraint that I did. So if the same happens to you and your child if you do come here, know that what they're doing is wrong, and absolutely fight back if not just for yourself, but for the rest of us this has happened to. To gain some perspective as well though, hundreds of cruise ships with tourists visit this store regularly. They have probably had incidents where kids mishandled and broke some items, so they are very defensive about it. But here's the thing - if you're in this business, you should also be educated enough to know how to deal with this respectfully with customers. Put a sign up saying "Children not permitted. Thanks for your understanding". Or you say, "I'm so sorry, we've had some incidents before and prefer children not to handle the merchandise. Thanks". That's it. Anyways, I hope this is a lesson in customer service to this store because they do carry a lot of very nice items. But many times it's not what you're selling that determines how good your business is - it's how you treat your customers.

Most of the goods stocked in Native Faces were made in Alaska or western Canada by Native American or First Nation craftspeople so the money is going to the right places. Check labels if you want something from a specific place. The store has lots of interesting things, but I wasn't feeling super charitable because the tour leading up to the store made me grumpy. The chocolate I bought made me feel better. It was good chocolate, too. I'm fairly certain you have to take a tour to shop here; it doesn't seem like the residents of Saxman keep the store open just because. Still, it's less than half a block from the bus stop if you catch a ride from Ketchican. Accessibility notes: Ramp access for mobility devices. Store is crowded with racks for mobility devices. Some items may be out of reach for seated shoppers. No braille signage.

They have a little bit of everything from stickers and pins to shirts and toys. The honey was present without turning the drink into liquid candy, letting the espresso still do the heavy lifting. The shop is in a less traveled part of town, but was filled with many wonderful items, not the normal generic fair targeted towards clueless tourists. We ended up buying 2 tins of canned fish, as we enjoy these treats from all over the world. My wife also bought a cute animal pin. We talked to the cashier, who told us that her grandmother owns the shop. We were very happy to support this locally owned independent business.
