Though my review is not good, I'll start by saying the staff is really lovely and kind. That said, Tomy does NOT give a good haircut at all, certainly not worth $200. The recommended/required treatments (lipid and cholesterol treatments) were helpful to my hair... but very very high priced. After the treatments, along with the necessary delay for haircut (in order for the treatments to take effect), the cut itself was a huge disappointment. Tomy spent approximately 15-20 mins with me, never asked my preferences and insisted 'anyone can cut hair'... but my hair simply got what amounts to a trim I'm capable of giving to myself. I went there for highlights. I was told my hair is too damaged. I needed his patented treatment. No one told me the price. The females working there do all the work. They make coffee, wash hair, do treatments, sweep the floors & do the blowouts. I've looked into his product ingredients and they are the same as inexpensive drug store brands. I went the next week to get my highlights & a trim. He put a few foils in. I had my hair washed. The person who blew my hair dry. It was the worst blow out. He trimmed my bangs. Took a drop off the bottom. I went back the following week because his "lipid & collagen treatments" washed out. He offered me a free lipid treatment. I asked him what's the difference between the treatments 2 weeks ago that cost $800. I had the treatment again. I had to pay $65 for another horrible blow out. They lie on their website they are open Thurs & Fri. Not Monday thru Friday. I met another customer there & we exchanged numbers. We both felt taken. We both researched his products. He's received everything we discovered through my credit card company. And from the person I met there as well. $1,900 for all of his fast talking doing nothing but hugging & kissing all few customers he has. I just went to a true organic salon. My roots were orange. I scheduled time out of my busy schedule and waited two weeks for a haircut. When I finally arrived there was a lack of communication. There was a bait and switch I went there for haircut and was led to believe that I was there for that, instead I got a few dollups of some serum that I didn't know I was being charged $300 for afterwards. Afterwards Tomy refused to cut my hair. Then I was told that I would have to pay for future treatments before Tomy would ever give me a haircut!!! I have lived in the city, am quite used to visiting upscale salons and was excited to try Tomy B in Long Island thinking I would probably use it for my daughter and 8 of her friends as well as family members for an event we are having in August. Unfortunately, as soon as my teenage daughter sat down, the man (who we assume is the owner since he never introduced himself) blurted out, "THIS hair is very hard to work with and it's not easy to do". He also mentioned under the same breath that if we wanted extensions they would cost thousands of dollars, perhaps, assuming, we could not pay. The thing is he never bothered to begin this consultation with some very basic questions. First of all, "Hello how are you, my name is..." goes a long way. I have never gone back to a stylist or hairdresser who doesn't have common courtesy. Secondly, he never asked what exactly we wanted. He assumed long term hair extensions is what we wanted and never asked necessary questions to truly know why we were there. He was too busy criticizing my daughter's curly hair. I actually had to tell him that he was making her feel bad. I saw the look on my daughter's face and I let him know that we love her natural hair, her ethnic curls and then perhaps he realized his ERRORS. He agreed that she had lovely curls only it was too late, he had already hurt her feelings and started the whole consultation by stating. "THIS hair is so hard to work with etc.." What a waste of time. Luckily, consultations are free. We did not lose a dime. The salon owners however, should read this carefully because not only will we not use their services for our event, we shall be sure to share our experience with other people who might consider this establishment. The one star is not only because I was forced to give it a star rating but also because when I called the salon, the person at the other end was always courteous and professional. I have thick wavy hair that needs a special cut so that it's not just a ball of fuzz on my head - not that there is anything wrong with having a ball of fuzz but it's not the look i'm going for- So i found this salon exploring places in Nassau county for wavy curly hair, read great reviews, and found their yelp deal $20 for $40 so it's $20 off- (however check with them first as they have other promotions as well and you cannot combine). I had a consult with Tomy and he really seemed to understand what look that i was going for and the best style for my outdoor/travel lifestyle. I had brought a picture and he honestly told me it wouldnt look like that with my hair type. I appreciated the honesty! I had a good wash and detangle and then Tomy gave me an expert cut. My hair was then dried so he can see the way it sits and cut more layers underneath. He made sure i was happy before i left and invited me for a free follow up.! Tony was great! Beautiful setup and very pleasant people. I've always had short almost military style hair and decided to start growing it out after my last haircut. It got to the point that it looked like a little boys haircut and I decided to cut it back down. I got on yelp and searched men's hair cut, while visiting my girlfriend in Long Island and found Tomy. I called asked if they could do a walk-in and they said no problem, got me in a half hour later. I told Tomy the situation and what I wanted to do now. He didn't like my idea to go back to short and explained that my hair would look good long on top while shorter on the sides. I'm extremely happy with his work and even happier with the directions he gave me to tell other hair dressers as I travel a lot and am not always able to see the same person. There were some negatives for Tomy, but they did not hurt my experience at all. The location was difficult to find because the yelp address sends you a little astray, but they helped me find my way. Also, this was the most expensive men's hair cut I have ever paid for, but again I'm ok with that because of the experience and how happy I am with his work. I will be sure to see Tomy whenever our schedules align perfectly again! And I would recommend any other man looking for a new hair direction or a new great upscale dresser to do the same! read more

Possibly the worst haircut I have ever had was by Tomy. Apparently, the random and disjointed angles in his dry cut technique are not exclusive to my experience. Just as another reviewer stated, my haircut was over in 5 minutes after some RANDOM snips that left me with uneven layers and absolutely zero style for $145. I went to Salon O the next day to have it corrected - so Tomy's haircut ended costing me over $220 after correction. As for the color, the other reviewers have a point. Lots of hype and talk about more visits and more money for "the full results". Manage your expectations. Like many other women needing color correction, it's a vulnerable time and you're eager to trust a stylist to help you. However, after a few visits, it was clear to see that my color was never going to last more than a few weeks due to the nature of his imported color system (which has other benefits). If you're willing to spend $600 a month on natural color, this salon may have some options for you. My advice is, stay aware from haircuts. read more

How does this place stay open is beyond me. It's nothing but smoke and mirrors. I came in for a 3pm haircut with Tomy, which I arrived at 2:45. Walked in, no one at the front area.. she talking to a customer getting hair color and everyone was working walking around and totally ignored me. So instead of standing like an idiot, I just sat on the couch and waited patiently. Some guy who worked there looked at me a few times but that's about it.. didn't come over to greet me or anything. When the receptionist sat down at the front by her computer, I approached her. This was a 10 min time span. I told her my name and that I had a 3pm appt and was told to just have a seat. Ok fine... 3pm rolls around and Tomy just started putting foils in another client. I'm starting to get annoyed at this point. 3:15 Tomy comes over to me and apologized for the wait and sat down with me to discuss what I wanted. After our talk he took my hair out from the ponytail, fluffed it with his hands a bit and did a few snips with the scissors ( didn't even comb or wash my hair). Then he had some woman wash and blow dry my hair. After it was blown straight he added an "angle" in the front, fluffed my hair with his hands some more and..... done. 3 snips and 5 min with him = $145. So basically when I left there I didn't even look like I had a haircut, I looked pretty much the same. What a damn waste of money and time. He bounces around from client to client bullsh*tting them on how beautiful their hair looks.. please! I did not see anyone in that place with a $145 worth haircut. Tomy is a sweet man.. however, he's a crook and BS artist. Also, I find it odd how none of the other hair stylists are allowed to cut hair on the days he's there. I guess he likes to be a one man show. Then he wants you to come back for a follow up. To see how ur hair looks, if you want any changes or whatever. I will absolutely NOT be wasting any more of my time going there. After washing my hair and styling it how I usually do.. you can see how choppy and UNEVEN it is!! However I will never let that man touch my hair again. I will continue to drive 25 min away to my usual stylist but I figured I'd go here since it's 5 min from my home. Worst decision ever. Won't go anywhere else after Tomy's. My friend told me about this "Boutique Salon" and at first I thought it was absurd to go to some women's salon for a haircut. I go to my place, get my simple hair cut and I'm in and out. But, when you find yourself bored with the same old look, you figure why not. Best decision I ever made! As soon as I walked in I was greeted. There was no awkward take a seat and wait, space out and look up at the ceiling waiting for someone to call you up. I was offered a coffee as soon as I walked in and it felt really nice to have been acknowledged. I sat for like 2 minutes and was called for the hair cut. If was my first time there and Tomy took the time to notice my current haircut and ask me how and if I'd want to change it up. There's no question Tomy knows hair because he noticed my thinning hair situation and the awkward cow licks my hair make in the back of my head. At that point I knew he knew what he was doing and I gave him free reign and he gave me the best haircut I could have asked for. I usually leave my barber thinking eh it's nice to get a hair cut. I left Tomy's APPRECIATING my hair cut. The guy knows his stuff! I was thrilled. No question I'll be back and anyone reading this should do the same. Trust me, leave the barber behind. I first went to Tomy over 6 years ago when he was in Roslyn and have followed him faithfully to the Old Westbury location. Tomy truly loves what he does and it shows. The salon is a boutique, located on an estate. You must bear left towards the guesthouse. A bevy of beautiful staff are waiting to serve you, offering refreshments including espresso and cappuccino. Tomy really considers what is best for your hair and what you are comfortable with - something that is rare in a stylist. Usually they either do whatever you say without letting you know whether or not that particular look will work for you OR they listen to what you say and then do whatever they feel like! I have long straight hair so sometimes stylists see it as a blank canvas and do whatever they want. This usually means choppy layers I didn't ask for or cutting WAY more than I indicated....not Tomy. read more

I came to this salon for the first time about a week ago and I could not be happier. I went to Jessica for a color, haircut, and blow out and left feeling great. Whenever I get a haircut I end up going home and redoing the blowout because I hate how everyone does it, but I did not have that issue with Jessica! She knew exactly what I wanted. I got my hair dyed a chocolate brown and it really looks great. My hair feels so soft and healthy and usually after I get it dyed it feels coarse and knotty. Whenever I go to a salon to get my hair dyed a darker brown, it ends up looking black and unnatural. I really love the color and cut and can't wait to come back! I have gotten so many compliments. Great staff in a great space and a convenient location (with parking!) Seems like the owner just opened this space as an expansion from old space. They did a great job with the fit out. The salon almost feels like an open layout kitchen and living room, where everyone knows each other and mills about doing their thing. The owner is quick to offer hospitality and coffee. Jessica has been cutting my hair for about a year now, so I was excited to hear she settled down in this great space. Her men's haircuts are spot on, even for picky customers like me.
