Did I know it was there? Nope. While I'd certainly heard of Woodstock, I wasn't certain of its location. Woodstock has been in existence for over 100 years. There's definitely a vintage vibe there with beautiful grounds, a wonderful clubhouse, and a more reserved sense of luxury. Facilities include eight Har-Tru tennis courts, a hard surface pickleball court, three lighted and heated platform tennis (paddles) courts, a paddle hut with outdoor decking and fire pits, three pools, a nine-hole golf course, and quite a bit of greenery. Woodstock plays host to a variety of competitive and recreational leagues and club sports for all ages and hosts APTA premiere national and regional platform tennis tournaments. While I certainly did not tour the entire grounds, the lengthy driveway gave me an opportunity to check out quite a bit. First off, in terms of accessibility at the clubhouse I'll note that if you drive under their brick canopy toward the back of the clubhouse they have several accessible parking spots. There's an accessible entrance directly under that canopy (the other entrance is not accessible). They also have an elevator available from that accessible entrance (NOTE: In this case, accessible means a level entrance, no stairs, and a push-button power doorway). In 2020, Woodstock renovated their dining rooms. The Woodstock Room offers indoor and outdoor dining and a children's activity room. They have the River Room - it overlooks the pool area, has a bar, and an adjacent outdoor terrace. The Club Room is more intimate and has a fireplace. The Woodstock Woodstock also has a grand ballroom that can host larger events and weddings and two smaller private rooms. My event was in an area that was called "the living room," though it may have a more formal name. I didn't really wander around much, however, I was mostly able to access everything I needed (some of the food dishes were a bit high). This event served "heavy hors d'oeuvres" including shrimp, crab cakes, salmon, a couple light dessert options, a veggie tray, and a few other things. It would have been nice to have had items labeled - I mean, let's be honest, if you know me then you know I'm a bit more trailer park than country club. However, everything I tasted was awesome. There was also a bar and soft drinks were available. Employees were friendly in a more reserved, professional way. They were effective, efficient, and discreet throughout the evening. I found the area quite comfortable and enjoyed looking around it. Membership here is by referral only and they have preview and regular membership opportunities. Fees are based on age and marital status. They do also have a non-resident option. I'm always impressed when a club makes an effort toward accessibility. While Woodstock isn't perfect in terms of accessibility, it's better than I expected and I was quite pleased. Overall, I would definitely return for future events and enjoyed the opportunity to check out this long-standing part of Indianapolis history.

They currently have two weekly group runs. Wednesday evenings at 6pm, starting at the Monon Trail at Main Street, Carmel, Indiana. And Saturday mornings at 7:30 am, starting right on the Monon Trail at the Monon Community Center, under the walk-way that connects two of their buildings, just a few feet north of 111th street. At the Monon Community Center, it's best to enter the complex via Westfield Blvd, onto the road called "Central Park Dr E", and that way you can park close to the meet-up/starting point. They usually have water stations at the starting point and the turn-around point. Individual membership is $35/year, and family is $70/year. Tucked right into Grand Park, it's basically a giant playground in the trees, with ropes courses, obstacles, and zip lines that range from "this is fun" to "why did I do this to myself?" (in the best way). There are multiple courses with different difficulty levels, so whether you're a beginner or feeling bold, you can challenge yourself at your own pace. The views from up in the trees are amazing, and it's one of those activities that makes you feel like a kid again, but with a little more upper body strength required. The staff does a great job walking you through everything, and once you're up there, it's equal parts thrilling and empowering. Plan to spend a few hours because you'll definitely want to try more than one course. Perfect for a fun day out, a group hang, or just switching up your usual routine. Each team jams for about 40 minutes with an intermission. There are some concessions available including Sun King beer. Most bouts revolve around a theme, like the popular Star Wars night usually held in May. This is a kid friendly and super fun atmosphere that you need to check out.

They say that Indy is the Amateur Sports Capital of the world with every thing from soccer, baseball, basketball, ultimate freebie, and even a roller derby team. The Naptown Roller Girls consist of varying levels of skill, the Tornado Sirens, the Warning Belles, and the Third Alarm, but don't let that fool you. These girls give it their all on the track. The level of skill, strategy, and teamwork that is needed for this is amazing, especially considering how fast paced the bouts can get. If your new to the sport, you shouldn't feel intimidated. The program that they provide details the objective of the sport, as well as explains how they score. During one of the bouts that I attended, prior to the first team taking the track, they had an example run on the track to explain the rules. The announcers do a good job as the bout goes on as well of explaining was goes on. They are also pretty funny and try to fill the dead time. The atmosphere of the bouts is one thing that everyone should at least experience once. The dedicated fans bring excitement to the bouts.The roller girls themselves are very friendly and are just as dedicated to their fans as the fans are to them. The bouts have tended to bounce between the Marsh Blue Ribbon Pavilion and Indiana Convention Center this past season. Ticket prices are generally cheaper if you purchase them prior to a bout; however, you can get them day of. I highly recommend seeing the Naptown Roller Girls in action, just don't go with the exceptions of seeing Whip-its and full body slamming contact. Also, make sure to get to a bout early to secure good seating.
