We ate here on Saturday. My first time visiting in Glendale, KY. It was the first time for any of our group of 3 at this restaurant. It is in a very old building that has covered front porch that connects it to a couple other businesses that appeared to be antique stores. Tony, the owner, greeted us just inside the door to the restaurant. He took us to our table and spoke to us about his business and that his mother was his inspiration for cooking. He's the youngest of 10 children. We enjoyed talking to him. The waitress was friendly. We all enjoyed our meal. Mine was fried chicken breast, corn on the cob and potato salad. It all tasted good. The homemade strawberry ice cream was recommended by Tony so we got it for dessert. It was a disappointment. It was served in a very small glass tea cups and was a liquid with slices of strawberry. The waitress knew it was not appealing since it didn't freeze well when it was made yet served it to us anyway. I didn't eat much of mine. The strawberries were good. My friend paid the bill so I don't know the total cost of my meal. But, the prices on the menu were all very reasonable for the quantity of food. Glad we tried this restaurant. I came here for lunch with an old friend of mine on Nov 1, and it was kind of early for them, so we practically had the place to ourselves. My guest had a Gluten restriction and was shocked to learn that the chef could make her fried green tomatoes using corn flour to accommodate. Overall, they offered a lot of GF options for her. She was thrilled as she said that it was the first time in 16 years she's been able to enjoy them. I reserved most of that appetizer for her, but I did have one slice and to be honest, it was either that or the shrimp alfredo I had, I was not feeling good at all within an hour of our meal. I suspect that it was the corn meal as I was not used to it. I would try again, but I will order something else next time. read more

I came here for my birthday dinner. This seems the birthday spot because at least 2 other guest were celebrating their birthday as well. Tony York's gives the fine dining experience with a quaint southern feel. Our server was excellent and very attentive. The food was good. I love going out to eat with multiple people especially if they let you sample their food. I got the crab cakes. They were fried a little too hard but were good. My favorite dish was the Jägerschnitzel. The fried chicken was a close second. I loved that Tony got on the piano and played Happy Birthday while guests sing. I got a free dessert for my birthday. We came here for a large family lunch. We had about 15 -16 people. It was all arranged prior to our arrival. We were seated at a large table that seated the entire group. We had the option of fried chicken or meatloaf, green beans, mashed potatoes, salad. They did accommodate me with a gluten free option. I got the white fish. Most of the group got the fried chicken. This restaurant is nice inside, obviously the owners are going for an upscale southern charm vibe with the table cloths and the dining room. That being said, both the food and the service were disappointing. We could plainly see multiple tables worth of food sitting in the window for 20+ minutes. By the time it arrived it was cold/luke warm. My fried chicken tasted good but was extremely tough. The green beans tasted canned. We had to ask the host after our waitress. It was overall unseasoned and disappointing. Not to mention, when we asked the host about our waitress she asked if we were talking about "the dark one" this is shocking to me. She is the hostess so she obviously knows the sections each waitress has, her description was extremely rude and racist. What is wrong with these people???? read more

After my review my mom, wife and I became nauseous and have diarrhea. Tony York made us sick and ruined our Mother's Day celebration. I'm reporting the restaurant to Hardin County health department. Don't eat there! My wife and I made reservations for our parents and us on Mother's Day, for a buffet brunch. Over the phone we were told that the price per person would be $30 yet when we received the check it was $35 per person. When we arrived, they seated us and we sat for 20 minutes before we were greeted and to order our drinks and buffet instructions. When we went to the buffet 1/3 of the dishes were empty. I had to ask the hostess if and when they would refill the dishes. The hostess acted indignant. We had to stand around for 20 minutes waiting. Next there were only 2 plates left and one was dirty. I had to ask the waitress when and if they could replace the plates. We had to stand around for another 10 minutes waiting. The food spread was the usual down-home country style, except for a lamb dish and it was cold because they didn't replace the empty Sterno heater. I gave up and didn't ask the very indignant hostess, by this point. Next they called a desert peach cobbler. The dough was raw. it didn't look cooked at all. On the upside the facility was charming and the waitress was very good. I recommend NOT going to the restaurant because they don't know how to run a buffet. read more

I had the French dip and my husband had the chicken livers. Both meals were excellent. I sampled the chicken livers and they were the best I've had. Had eaten there before and food was excellent. Today got there about 3:00 walked in lady be right with you. Man sitting on corner got up went in the dining room. Looked very sloppy. But not on an English muffin served on tops of a hamburger bun. Tried Thienman bread pudding. Dry and very sugary also served ala mode. Six of us went to Tony's for the Easter buffet. It was a wonderful experience. The buffet included mixed green salad with roasted red peppers and pear, Cole slaw, pea salad, fried chicken, salmon, pork, potatoes, green beans, baked beans, greens, macaroni and cheese, corn pudding, rolls, peach cobbler, strawberries, whipped cream, banana pudding, and a mixed chocolate/vanilla pudding (looked like tiramisu, but wasn't). Spouse and I walked in without reservations in a weekday for lunch. He had to search out server and owner for us to get a table. We were the only diners at the time; staff was in the back prepping for a catering event the next day. Ambiance excellent but dining room extremely dusty, a small cobweb hung overhead near our table and the front and backside of the adjacent Roman shade had evidence of several more. Upon closer inspection it was evident the dining room needed a thorough scrubbing of walls and ceiling. Entire facility was set up with linens, glassware and place settings with plates. Our food was delivered promptly but was disappointing. We both ordered the schnitzel. It was overdone snd dark, not burned but close. Mashed potatoes were a combo of runny and lumpy. Side of cabbage was maybe 2 Tablespoons. Gravy was cool. Owner and server were outgoing and amiable. I left thinking maybe we just hit on a bad day due to upcoming catering event. But the lack of attention to cleanliness in the front made me wonder about cleanliness of the kitchen. I had heard really good things but I was totally disappointed over what we were served and totally unimpressed having been given the above appearance. Just south of Elizabethtown. Incredible comfort food done right. Three courses, under twenty dollars. The Southern fried chicken is how you are supposed to cook fried chicken. Colonel Sanders who? The KY Special is a true bargin. A entree, served with smashed taters and green beans. Plus a biscuit. Twelve bucks. And the relaxed atmosphere is an added bonus. What a pleasant surprise! The food was really good. Most of us ordered the fried chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. It was so plentiful that I couldn't eat the whole entree. I even ordered more green beans to take home! The tomato basil soup was creamy and sliced perfectly. The creme brûlée and pecan pie were very good. Best iced tea! I went with a group from church for lunch. It was a great place. The entire group raved about their meals. I had the hot brown anit was not baf, but I would not order it again. It did not have the cheesy sauce I prefer and it was just Turkey instead of Turkey and ham. Some in the group loved theirs. It just isn't the style Hot Brown I like, but there is a lot to choose from if you are like me. I am not sure what I might try, but the meatloaf looked good. read more

Went on a Sat night for our anniversary. Have been a few times before for events, but not just the two of us. We were looking forward to an amazing meal (as we have had in the past). Well, on Sat night, there were only 2-3 tables of diners. Clue #1. Server was nice and efficient, wearing a dirty shirt, no apron and knew nothing about any of the food. Clue #2 Before we ordered we were swatting a few flies and noticed a few dead flies in window sills. As I looked down, the floors were very dirty, crumbs and what not everywhere. Clue #3 The appetizer was very good- Blackened Shrimp and Grits was the highlight of the entire meal, freshly made and tasty. Our entrees were only marginal, not bad at all but nothing special. Salmon was nice, but bland, rice was undercooked and unseasoned at all. Scallops were very undercooked, beef tenderloin was also nice. Bottom line, they have gone downhill in the past year or so and need to get back to being a first class 5 STAR restaurant, as there are literally dozens of options only a few min away... when I come here, I want a special meal! read more

The decor/color scheme was very elegant! Service was good and Tony came out to see how we enjoyed our meal and was extremely personable with us. Perhaps because he seems as knowledgeable about art as culinary skills, there was some amazing local art on the walls. Tony York's is quite possibly the best restaurant in Hardin County, and much of the surrounding area. I was first introduced by my in-laws years ago and we have spent many special occasions dining at the restaurant, as well as more casual dinners. The menu changes often, which is great for anyone who frequents Tony's! You can't get bored or be too familiar, there are new menu items every time we go. Everything I've eaten is excellent, so I am never worried that I won't be able to find something enjoyable. Not only does Tony know what he's doing, but his staff is on point - so attentive and friendly. For a seemingly upscale place you're free to be as casual or dressy as you like and you will be welcomed warmly. If the fried green tomatoes appetizer is available it is a must! I also recommend the cheesy bites/cheesy puffs, I can't recall the exact name. My in-laws are huge fans of the hummus too. For dinner I cannot even tell you everything I've tried - lasagna, steaks, oysters, a hot brown, various pasta dishes - and all were amazing! Tony's does not disappoint! Be sure to leave room for dessert! Tony is at the restaurants most nights and is so great to chat with! He's shared a few recipes with my mother-in-law and talked about his personal garden and plans for upcoming dishes, and the restaurant in general. Having an attentive and involved owner makes this place that much more awesome in my book. Recently, Tony's catered my wedding reception. We have received so many compliments on the food since returning from our honeymoon! Due to the distance and to fit within our budget we had a salad and pasta bar with several options so no one -including our vegetarian friends- felt left out. There was blackened chicken, fettuccini and penne, meatballs, Alfredo and marinara sauces, as well as a homemade dill ranch for the salad that everyone kept asking about. (I'm probably forgetting some things.) Tony's also did our cake and it was delicious! We decided not to keep the top layer and our guests devoured the cake - several mentioned that it was the best cake they had ever eaten. There were layers of chocolate, ganache, and whipped truffles with a white buttercream and cream cheese frosting. We provided a topper and told their baker to arrange it however she thought looked best and it was lovely! She also coordinated everything day-of and helped is out by arranging the mini cupcakes we had ordered elsewhere around the cake table when our venue coordinator was MIA. Everyone was a pleasure to work with leading up to our big day! So easy, I wish all of our vendor experiences had been so smooth. So, in addition to recommending dinner from Tony York's on Main, I also highly recommend the restaurant for any event catering you may need! You will not be disappointed! read more

Tony is fighting the good fight, with the deck stacked against his restaurant, alcohol license-wise, since who wants to visit a cloth napkin-type restaurant for a fancy-schmancy meal, without being able to order a nice glass of wine, a cocktail, or beer? The place has great service. It's a lovely environment to enjoy a meal. The food is accessible (not frou-frou or too complex, unless the train goes off of the rails - which happens), varied (from visit to visit), well-prepared and definitely out of the ordinary for what's available in this area. Tony's is one of the few independently owned restaurants in Hardin County where diners looking for a good meal aren't limited to typical "homecookin'" (and terrible for your health) style Southern options. That said, ingredients aren't always top-shelf - understandable, given the constraints & expectations, just noting that they're not the equivalent of hot spots in NuLu or downtown, as far as suppliers go. I'm not sure what the solution is, since I really don't feel good about paying 50$ for a 35$ meal, at the same time that I understand how their menu is structured and that this place has got to have astronomical food costs. For example, I hosted a small gathering last year in one of the beautifully decorated side rooms at the same time a local plant had scheduled a meal for 80 people. My group was fine, but the group that had the remainder of the restaurant reserved no showed, without notice. And, no doubt Tony ate a major portion of the food costs, the entire staffing costs, and turned away paying customers. And from my conversation with the staff, that's not unusual, no matter how unfair and un-neighborly it is for a manufacturer with million dollar contracts to screw over a small local business. I was at a recent charity event that TYOM donated to (Yay! Good on them!). Their products was...expensive, just judging from the ingredients. It tasted terrible. Not only was it just, flat out, a bad, unseasoned pairing of shrimp and sweet to tart fruits, it was a serious misjudgment of the local audience's willingness to try odd flavors. The reason that I mention it is that the lack of judgment about what a local audience (even a comparatively sophisicated) local audience wants is hampered by simple palate inconsistency and preparation plays into problems folks have with the changing menu. I've eaten at Le Bernadin. I've eaten at the French Laundry. WD 50. Catbird. VOLT. 610 Magnolia.Girl & the Goat.. Plus, basically, every 4+ restaurant in Boston and a few dozen in NYC and DC. This is not that. But it's a hell of a lot better than what else is around in KFC country, if one orders judiciously. Tony York's is our halfway meeting point for my parents and me. We usually meet on Sundays and their special is the fried chicken breast with smashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and a biscuit. I end up getting this meal, which is so comforting and delicious. I have had other things on the menu and none have disappointed. The last trip that was made to have a meal with my parents, we split the strawberry rhubarb cobbler with vanilla ice cream, and dang it was the beeeez neeez! read more

Jan and I had our anniversary dinner at Tony's again. This time was just as good as the previous year. Food was great and so was the service. We joined the dinner club so we earned half off of our dinner which paid the annual dinner club fee. We plan to go again for her birthday in May 2015.
