We decided to check out Back Home Restaurant and we weren't disappointed. It has a cozy atmosphere and the waitress was very pleasant. I decided to try the XL Toaster Cheeseburger while my wife tried the fish tacos. They were both fantastic! If you get the XL you had better brought you appetite because it is huge. The fries were also very good. I highly recommend giving it a try especially if you like fish tacos. I don't know another place in Elizabethtown that serves them but let me know if there is. Food compared to price is responsible, but being severed cold sides and store bought burger patties is not. If you're going to charge $17 for a burger and not season it, at least make it from ground burger. The only thing that was in house made was our appetizers and fries. I couldn't decide between 2 or 3 stars so it's a 2.5 for me. Sadly did not have the dining experience I was hoping for while in Etown. This restaurant had positive reviews and looked so cozy from the outside. First thing I noticed was how sticky our table was after being seated. I ordered the chicken, with hash-brown casserole and coleslaw and my partner ordered the burger with fries. The piece of chicken was small and lacked flavor, the hash brown casserole and coleslaw were okay. The burger patty was dry and tasted low quality. The french fries were the best part of the meal. Oh my gosh- we came here for the first time on a Thursday afternoon for a late lunch and loved the experience. You park in a small gravel lot, cross over a bridge and feel the warmth before ever stepping into the large house turned restaurant. And.... there is boutique shopping inside- both upstairs and in the waiting areas so be sure to go up and check it out!!! I had the most delicious fish tacos - the slaw mixture was melt in your mouth yummy and each of the 2 tacos came with a long hearty piece of fried fish. Heavenly! And our wonderful server brought us drink refills which I always love. It's a house- so tables and booths are set up throughout all the rooms . It's quaint and delicious. Where to start? This little gem of a restaurant served me the best meal I'd had in Etown in years! I had the open faced roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and brown gravy. The potato's were homemade style and the beef was so tender you could cut it with a fork. One of my friends had the chicken fried steak and she insisted I try it. Definitely the best I've ever had! My military son was even less impressed stating that it was the WORST meatloaf he has ever eaten! That's saying a lot as he is a very diplomatic person. Great little dinner spot if you're craving some down home cooking. When we arrive for dinner shortly after 5 o'clock, there was only about 2 to 3 cars in the parking lot. We were warmly greeted inside by a friendly lady who showed us to our table. The macaroni and cheese was good, however, it could use a little bit more seasoning. I found it to be a little on the blander side. Portion size was excellent for the price. I couldn't complete my entire meal and packaged it up for tomorrow's lunch. When we finished our meal, we perused around the front lobby which offers unique gifts, and home accents for purchase. At the checkout counter there are glass pedestals with sweet delicacies including bourbon, balls, and peanut butter balls. We snagged a couple of those for the car ride home. On our way out, we noticed the restaurant was very busy. The parking lot was completely full of cars, and others were circling the block looking for an empty spot. Parking can be challenging because the lot is extremely small. Get there early for the best spot because it does fill up fast. We went here at 11 for lunch, right when it opened, and we had a nice meal and were very well attended. We ordered the fried green tomatoes to start. They came with a spiced mayo that was very addictive. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT (can you tell I like fried green tomatoes?) and my boyfriend ordered the country fried steak. I subbed out the Lays chips it came with for broccoli casserole side. My boyfriend also got broccoli casserole for the side as well as mac and cheese. I could've eaten a bucket of that mac and cheese. Everything was really simple and tasty. I was really hungry and was hoping that the BLFGT would be a little heartier, but it was still really yummy. Lord, if there was a place I could eat at every day, it'd be here. The food and atmosphere are so immaculate, I love it. That, along with whatever radio station/playlist they have on? Perfect. I always get open faced roast beef when I go there because it is one of my favorite meals, and when I tell you they do it so perfectly. The meat is tender, the potatoes are an amazing consistency, and even the BREAD is so soft and delicious. I'm scraping the plate clean by the time I'm done. The only negatives for me is that the service can be a little slow at times, but the waiters/waitresses are always so kind. They don't treat you like strangers. That and some parts of the restaurant are so HOT, and it's especially bad when you have to wait between drink refills. These things don't dissuade me, though, especially not when the food is so amazing. The Honey Mac was just the right mix of sweet and spicy and the skillet caramelized the cheese of the Mac perfectly. The meatloaf is just like my momma makes it; my mom actually ordered it and it got her seal of approval. The turkey on the hot brown was carved versus sliced (I.e. not from the deli) and substitution of bacon for ham hit the mark perfectly. All the food including the sides was hot and our crab dip appetizer was eaten so quickly I didn't get a chance to snap a picture. The first thing I noticed when entering this old house turned family owned restaurant and store was how absolutely clean it was. You won't see a speck of dust anywhere. And there's a lot of square footage to keep clean. You're just gonna feel better from the gate eating in a place so tidy. We started with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. I strongly recommend. The dipping sauce for them was quite good as well. For the main dish, I ordered Chicken Fried Chicken with sides of mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. The chicken isn't the best I've had, but very good. The mashed potatoes are indeed some of the best I've ever had out. They are fantastic. The mac n cheese is decent, perhaps a little under seasoned, and considering there is an up charge on that side, I'd avoid. The corn bread was a little dry. Not a home run but I'd give it four stars. They were at three with the cleanliness alone. I'll be back the next time I'm in Etown. read more
