Their damn hot soup lids keep leaking. They don't care, all they have to do is change their lids to the clear lids that are flat and tight. All their locations have these lids and they fall apart. If they fall over in your car you have a complete mess on your hands. Don't eat the premade salsas they're terrible....just gross. The green, the red, doesn't matter. Disgusting. Going back to the Mexican Supermarket on Algonquin in Arlington Heights right across from Walmart to get my salsa again. If they ever change their damn lids I'll upgrade this review. read more

Lots of parking even on a Saturday and nice wide aisles that are well stocked at this location. Friendly employees were quick to clean up when someone knocked down the cherry tomato display (not us)! Their bakery and deli section is huge but not well staffed on a holiday weekend so waits are long. No lines for checkout because lots of staff there including baggers. The store is clean and bright. I was hesitant to visit this Tony's one day after opening in Schaumburg, but I have heard so many great things about other locations. The place was very busy and the parking lot was filled. I was trying to find some of the opening deals and scored 59 cent bags of pasta, limit 6, and bottles of fresh squeezed OJ are $6.99. I also really like the deli section, particularly the cheeses, because they have some of my favorite brands and flavors. I probably stood in line close to 30 minutes because the lines were packed. Definitely, the word is out that this place is open. I also grabbed a tuna poke bowl, homemade pico, and a package of shrimp cocktail with sauce for $5. I like to cut up the shrimp and add it to the Pico for a quick ceviche. The bakery is legit, and I love that there are Polish, German, Hispanic, and Asian baked goods. Tony's is sure to give local places like Valli produce or deli for you some competition. But I'm not quite sure yet if they offer the best pricing compared to these other locations. Some days really good hot bar food, some days ok hot bar food. I liked that it had a lot of variety, ie it changes day to day. It's 9.99 a pound. The crab cake is mostly batter but it's quite tasty. Fried fish was moist on the inside, but a bit dry on the outside, to be expected for food that sits out. Pizza had flavorful sausage, but otherwise, it's just pizza. Fried shrimp I got was nice and moist on the inside, the shrimp scampi pasta was a bit more dried. I tried to get some herb and garlic fish, but i couldn't cut it apart, it was tough on the one side for some reason. Staff seem friendly so that's a good thing. Prices of stuff seems in line with other places. Always look at ads for some good deals. You enter on one side which has the hot food and taco restaurant and sushi (6 bucks on weds i think). Walk through the rest of the store, and end up on the other side. All the way at the end is self check out, better than waiting forever in line. I look forward to trying out some other stuff in the future. Mainly some of the refridgerated food, general tso's, alfedo pasta etc. That stuff i have to heat up but it's like 7 bucks for 2 servings worth, so it will be a better deal if I can't find something I like on the hot bar. I mistakenly visited Tony's two days after they opened after 5:00 PM. It was crowded - and I mean very crowded. Their selection is impressive. International markets like Tony's always have a wide selection of fruits and vegetables you don't find in the large chains. And, while Tony's has about a dozen locations in and around Chicago, and the stores are large, it still has a small grocery feel. We went to get a "look of the land" but filled a shopping basket. We also got some items from their food bar for dinner. Aside from that, they have a wide variety of fresh meats and fish, canned and boxed goods, and bakery items. They also have a good wine and liquor selection, although we skipped those. The downside to going to a hyped opening like this is that the crowds coming in and crowds are leaving all at the same time. We waited in the checkout line for almost 45 minutes before they checked us out. Yes, this was their first week, and all of the checkers are new and learning their jobs, so I don't fault them for that. However, I was frustrated by the wait. For the few items of fresh food we got from their food bar, they were okay. One suggestion for them is to do like Whole Foods - list ingredients and allergens on the food bar and their prepared foods. If you have problems with dairy or gluten, you don't know what you're getting, so you skip it. We did ask someone who worked there. He said he'd brought that up to them several times, but Tony's seems to be in a manageable amount of time to cater to those with food allergies or sensitivities. I hope that changes. While it was impressive, the crowds and wait experience colored my view. I want to go back after they settle down and try it again. If the leadership at Tony's does read this, please consider my suggestion of adding ingredients and allergens to your prepared food packaging. read more

Today at Tony's Fresh Market in Schaumburg, a cashier attended to us with a terrible attitude. The self-checkout registered a price of $18.99 for a basil, and when I called her, she assisted us very poorly. When I tried to pay, the system wouldn't allow me to, so I called her again. She came back angry, with a miserable attitude, shouting 'What's wrong?' I asked for her name, and she ran off. The store manager should consider evaluating her performance and reconsider if this girl is fit to deal directly with customers. read more

Again, We went to Tonys and because I have to depend on others to drive me, I dont have alot of time to shop/check out. I wrote sale prices on some of my items. The checker even mentioned there was writing on them and I ask ed her it the items rung up with the salle price, I was told they were. When I got home, I realized I was again over charged for several items that were marked on sale on the shelves. So if I was was overcharged by a couple dollars, how many other people are overcharged daily? I have been so disappointed with Tony's as of late. It use to be a great store chain to shop at. There are no decent sales any more. Maybe that's because of the economy or I hear the are under new management or ownership. I bought some spare ribs that were on sale. They looked really good. Came home to cook them and when I opened the package there were only like 7 ribs fir the whole pack. Piled underneath the was a bunch of the rib tips. I felt like a got robbed. read more

If you go to Tony's beware of their pricing policies. The last three times I have shopped there I have been overcharged. When they display their products they regularly put sale signs in front of regularly priced items. Or they will place similar regular priced items right next to sale items. Another trick they use is they will change a sale price to the regular price on the computer but leave the sale price up. The last time I went there I told the people behind me to check their receipt. The manager told me I shouldn't do that! read more

Selection is great and store is clean. It's a Saturday night, there were shoppers but not many. There were two cashiers and not a bag person in sight. Maybe people called off, maybe they're understaffed. Ok. I guess it's bag your own groceries night... which we did. Cashier kept dropping my stuff and had a bad attitude... I could've looked past the having to "help" bag my rather large purchase... except when the cashier was done... she just stopped and looked beyond me yelling and gossiping with the coworkers far behind me. There were groceries left to bag... I asked her to HELP my daughter and I finish... she bagged one thing and gave me the stank eye the entire time until my daughter finished.. I could not bag anything due to the position I was standing in the aisle with the cart in front of me. This was the absolute worse... if you're not gonna have bag people, at least have the cashiers willing to work. With great anticipation I welcomed the stores' opening. Unfortunately, my anticipation has turned to disappointment. I had hoped to get a relief from Jewels' prices and an enhancement of Vallis' produce array. Sadly, I was disappointed in both cases. Prices matched Jewels', and the produce was no improvement over Valli. Recently I asked the butcher for a pound of hamburger and she had to go in the back to get a translator. Since the Tonys' app very seldom works, I asked a manager, "what am I doing wrong?" He had to call an employee over to translate my question. I usually visit 2 or more times each week and EVERY time there is a problem with the self check out. Usually, it is because of the items I've "clipped" on their app not being recognized by the check out scanner. Did you enter your phone number? Did you back space to the item? Did you scan the bar code on your app profile? Did you put in your phone number? This goes on and on until a helper arrives. Did you put in your phone number? I think you get the idea. Each week the number of shoppers continues to decline due to poor systems, pricing and inconsistent shelve stocking. We spend approximately $500 per month on groceries--initially it mostly went to Tonys'--now it goes to Valli and Jewel. A few days ago I bought a gallon of 2% organic milk which was advertised on sale for $5.99. Came home to find out that I was charged $8.49, Went back to the store today 9/5 and explained the situation to the customer service person who declined to even hear my case saying that the sale ended yesterday and a new sale began and that they could not adjust the price. I went further and talked to the manager who was the biggest ass hole I have ever encountered at a customer service. They totally ripped me up and we're laughing when I left. I have had many issues with this store and will not be going back to this location. I would recommend everyone who shops here to check your receipts thoroughly before leaving the store, there is always a catch there somewhere. That manager on duty today needs to go back to pushing carts as this may be the appropriate task that SOB! read more

Great, fresh selection; however, the butchers leave a lot to be desired. They're in the habit of telling customers to go look at prepackaged meat. If you want only one thing from them, fine. Why offer butcher service if they don't want to work? They're also in the habit of entering wrong information for the meat ordered, I.e. wrong item name. Fine if the price per lb is the same, but as a customer BE AWARE. read more

Selection and freshness are not the problem. I used to love this store but now they only have self check out in the morning. The machine kept having issues with weight even though I was only scanning items. I had to wait several times for a person to come over to release the register so I could continue. Then I got to my produce and have to find the codes and figure it out on my own. I already have a job and should not have to work at giving you money. Open a register for people who are doing weekly shopping. Or give me a discount for doing your job. Very disappointed at Tony's as this is now the third time I had to do this myself. Glad they opened a Tony's fresh market in Bloomingdale. Great prices, great grocery store

We have been shopping at Tony's since the grand opening and since then the service has taken a sharp nose dive. They use very deceptive marketing strategies like selling 2 LB bags of shrimp and marketing the per LB price, they also don't specify that most of their sales are only valid if you buy 2 of those items. Today was the last straw so we will not be returning to this business. Today was the last day for their skirt steak sale, as we approached the butcher we noticed he is telling other customers that they are all out of skirt steak and to come back tomorrow. I noticed he took the labels off all the cuts of meat, luckily I know my cuts, I requested he give me 10 LBS of the skirt steak filleted and tenderized. He pointed to the table behind him and said the tenderizer is already dismantled for the night (mind you they close at 10, and it was 9:15pm ) and said I can purchase it how it comes. This older gentleman made it very clear that he was not interested in helping any of us as customers and was ready to close up before his shift was over. I do not recommend this business to anyone, deceptive marketing and horrible customer service. read more
