Today I arrived at Tony's about 2pm. I used to come here with my late father and wanted to remember those days. I ordered my food. The gentlemen that take the orders are very pleasant. I proceeded to walk towards the back to Rene er where my Dad sat and then I can back to the front to wait for my order. It was taking a bit longer so I proceeded to walk towards the back and before I can get to the double doors, I hear a man yelling, "lady, lady!" There were other people there I assumed he was talking to someone else. I turn around and I ask if he was talking to me, he proceeds to walk away from me and cursing at me in Spanish. I look and I see he has a security jacket on and he sits down at this table and ignores me. He sees people coming so he takes their temperature but is cursing at me under his breath. I'm not one to argue with ignorance but I kept on asking him to watch his mouth and if he wasn't sitting there when I walked to the back that he can't act like he was doing his job. I went to the guys that take the order and complained, they said they would speak with the manager. The security guard never apologized fir his foul language. I just want to say this. Be careful who you talk to and curse out because one day there will be a shoot out because this man has no social skills. Fire him and get someone who wants to work. read more

Always the toughest option when going all the way to the end on City Island, Johnny's or Tony's. Honestly, I tend to go Johnny's more often but I LOVE the fries here at Tony's. Yo, It completes the meal to me, Shrimp and Scallop over fries is usually the choice and option of getting impressive steak fries here usually does it for me. Both spots are impressive, cross the streets rivals, maybe next few times will head here more for Tony's. Want those really good steak fries to go with what fried seafood option I pick for the day. Been to Johnnys. A little cleaner here for the same type of fast food, more indoor seating. More non fried options for the woman. Expect the same long lines. Besides having the best fried seafood in NYC they've also got the best Pina Colada's you'll find. These frozen drinks with Rum are from the heavens. The place has indoor and outdoor seating and the crowd is always great. I always have the fried lobster, yes fried lobster and the fried shrimp combo and a side order of "tostones" (fried plantains) it's enough to feed two. As a kid growing up in NYC, I enjoyed many summer nights on City Island. Tony's was the spot to go to enjoy seafood, adult beverages and a amazing view. It has been many years since I was able to visit City Island until this past weekend. I can honestly say not much has changed. The food is decent, not the greatest and not the worse. The portions are pretty good for the price. The fried foods could stand to be seasoned better. What I remembered from when I was a kid, was the fried seafood was well seasoned and fresh. This past weekend, the food did taste fresh but the seasoning was none existing. The corn meal used to fry the fish, had little to no seasoning. The fish was fried to perfection but I had to rely on hot sauce to provide seasoning. I also ordered a 1/2 dozen of the raw oysters on a half shell. They were fresh and tasted pretty good. I wish they would have had some horse radish and saltine crackers. The one negative that I would point out is that they still don't accept credit or debit cards, cash only for payment but they do have ATMs onsite. Although it wasn't summer when I revisited, I still think that this is a Great place to visit during the hot summer nights in NYC. read more

Soooo every time I go to city island I'm torn between Johnny's or Tony's pier, today I decided on Tony's. I love the broiled seafood here. The shrimp, lobster tails even the fish, but If I'm going fried I prefer Johnny's. Tony's on Friday, Saturdays and Sunday's are pretty packed, the lines are usually very long but they move pretty quick. There are two lines, one for broiled food and the other for fried. They also have an arcade area for the kids and a full bar that serves good drinks at a decent price. The outside deck is nice as you can enjoy your food and drinks while taking in the view of the Long Island sound on a nice summer day/night. I know what you're thinking: "oh cool! A bunch of friend seafood and OH! Corn on the cob! Salad! You can't possibly mess that up!" WRONG. This place is one word: appalling. I thought City Island was good for its seafood... absolutely not the case at this joint. The corn on the cob was MUSH. I'm not even joking, it tasted like it had been soaked in boiling water overnight. I couldn't take more than two bites because it didn't even taste like corn anymore!! Also it came dripping in a soup of butter! BARF. And the little side salad... I think the dressing they heave on top is thousand island? Tasted like a thousand island dressing from a thousand miles away from earth. Check out the photo I posted of the fried fish, which my boyfriend ordered. According to him, it was extremely tasteless and just tasted like fried crap. He hardly could finish even one piece. The worst part about all this? Was invited here with family. The long ride from Manhattan to Harlem across the Harlem Bridge and over Hutchinson River into the Bronx. Would of thought this was a ride worth traveling to this Uptown borough. Sadly enough when you wait in line for ordering outside and to then a table, you think this is the best place ever for seafood. Drive was almost like going to see the President of the Bronx White House, secluded behind parks and beach until you get to this island called 1 City Island, where there is nothing but water after this place. Sounds like something out of a movie. So we get ordering Whiting w/fries and added corn on the cob and Flounder w/fries and added garlic pasta. OMG, is it New Yorkers or is it just this place, but no seasoning at all on the fish, fries, corn, or garlic pasta, it was tasteless. Only thing helped me eating was the hot sauce, which was watered down too. Seems like they try to conserve as much as needed for the day. Just saying, down south BBQ, and fish places you can taste the seasoning all the way in your food. Maybe that's what they are use to here, but food prices are too freaking high here to add salt and pepper on your meal. Those other review of folks never had New Orleans Style or Cajun food, cause if they did, they would feel like me. Jailhouse food at least have some taste. Also better off with a regular drink with meal. ALCOHOL too over priced. Daiquiri like 8.00 something, and Pina Colada with Henny was like 15.00. Not to mention... YOU MUST SIT, under the covered to prevent though pesty seagulls birds from laying a turd on you or your food. Seats are limited under covered seating on a busy day. Non-covered seating are dirty due to birds, and they will eat your food in a heartbeat. No seating inside due to Covid. Will not recommend this place at all. I have been coming to this resturant since i was a child. So i had to take my young nephew and my nieces here. Ever since the remodel i have felt a saddended that they didnt try to retain some of the old look but things must go on. The food is still as good as it ever was. The prices are always decent compared to some of the other resturants up the road. And you can always count on a seagull trying to taste how good your food really is. read more

Another fantastic visit at Tony's Pier- $17 for 9 shrimp and fries seems excessive to some but to me it's just fine...the shrimp are actually plump and seasoned with a great crunchy crust. In a visit to NYC we had to make the pilgraage to city island. Ranted & raved about it, to the kids to Tony's as johnny's had no parking. Everyone got fried shrimp, except my daughter's friend who got broiled shrimp and me who got fried scallops. Let me start by saying this place IMHO isn't like pre-fire (around time of hurricane sandy). It's organized chaos!! There's a line for broiled food & a line for fried. You'll see bunches of people standing around, but they're waiting to pickup their orders. The broiled line moves dreadfully slow as they don't take more orders until they deliver so many, so be prepared to wait for the "healthier" option. The fried shrimp were a crowd pleaser as were the broiled, well flavored. The scallops, well let me say this, I ate them because I paid good $ for them but I'd have been happier with a fish filet sandwich from McD's No Bueno!! read more

One of my favorite spots in City Island.I ordered the Seafood combo,which included Whiting fish,scallops,calamari,shrimp,fries which was only 37.00. You can't get that in Manhattan.The Pina Colada and Rum Punch drinks are good.The lines are crowded but they move quick. Tony's is a very old and well established seafood spot at the end of city island. Although historically they havn't been able to compete with their rival johnies across they street they are a great alternative since johnies is closed during the winter. They've renovated the place since the old one burnt down and the new place is very spacious and clean with a bar and outside seating. Plenty of parking as well. Side note * they're drinks are through the roof expensive. 12 dollars for a henny colada out of a small clear plastic cup. read more

Not really a romantic date spot. Order at the counter pay before you dine, noisy, crowded bustling city island restaurant. Can dine in theres plenty of picnic styled tables. Fried lobster, porgie and fried shrimp were amazing. Perfectly cooked and the tarter sauce was the best I've had at any restaurant. I know it's essentially mayo and relish but good tarter sauce is good tarter sauce. My aunt had the whiting she loved it. Service isn't the best. Grouchy, impatient probably overworked middle aged man took our order. He was annoyed with all my questions and us asking about substitutions which he didn't mind charging for. Nothing special about the fries or tostones. The mojo de ajo served with the tostones was good. Overall I would go again, I'd take the food to go though. read more

I just went back yesterday and OMG the Lobsters are back. I ordered 4 broiled Lobster tails combo and was crossing my fingers and lo and behold I see the real nice thick Maine lobster tails. So this place gets 3 stars for the authenticity of the City Island, Bronx experience. The food, fried or broiled is .... meh. I ordered a seafood platter. It was ok. It would be a better food experience if: - yes it's a fry fiesta, but a batter that had some zing to it would be a plus - juzz up the fries, coleslaw, etc. both are a soppy, soggy mess. - Scallops were fresh but just not fried well. They fall out of the batter shell as oily, white missed opportunities. - is it a seagull sanctuary? Been coming here for over 30 years and my car is filled with seagull poop every time I visit. Try nets. It will attract more people to the great scenery outside and keep them safe from the dive bombing seagulls. Imagine people not staying away from the place just because they washed their car! I jest but it's pretty disgusting to sit at table covered in seagull mess. BTW, the 80's inspired, plastic cup drinks are AWESOME! No pretense here. Not a mixologist waiting to make your $15 cocktail. Listen I get it. The moment any noveau inspired eats touch this place, prices raise (although they aren't cheap now) and hipsters invade. That would be tragic although a stretch seeing as their isn't too bad a gentrification scene on City Island. Came to Tony's for an early dinner/ late lunch on the way back from a hike upstate. Parking was easy to find in their parking lot. Ordering was a bit hectic, but so are many places in NYC. From what I could tell a single line filtered into the fried or broiled sections. Order and pay (cash only) at the counter. We got the fried combo which took about 10 min to prepare from the time we ordered. It would be cool if they could have a buzzer or a number system to alert you when your order was ready since it could get crowded at the counter. The combo was large enough for 3-4 people to share. Fries were steak style fries and had the right texture with a soft inside and slightly crisp outside. Seafood overall was fresh, but average. The two items that stood out were the fried scallops and the fried clams. Scallops were large, tender & juicy in the middle with a light scallop taste and a hint of sweetness. Clams were also large, tender and meaty with a substantial clam flavor. Calamari was tender, but the breading was lacking in some spots. It went really well with the marinara sauce. Shrimp were coated in a slightly spicy batter, but were dry. Whiting was flavorful, but a bit difficult to pick apart. Flounder filet was soft and flaky, but just didn't stand out. Indoor and outdoor (covered and not covered) seating was available. If I'm by here again I'd probably try the broiled seafood. I heard the snow crab legs were the thing to try. read more

This is a cash only establishment which was turn-off #1. Turn-off #2: the fried seafood was bland as hell! I didn't taste salt, pepper, nothing! Turn-off #3: The fish had bones and a tail. On the bright side, it has indoor and outdoor seating, the french fries were good, the Bud Light was refreshing, and they made a good virgin Pina Colada. I'm a foodie and had high expectations of this place. If you like flavor and spices, avoid this place. My experience there ruined my day.
