At a recent family discussion about the Nathan's hot dog contest, I mentioned that I'm past my peak eating days. My Butler's Flat research turned up proof of this, as emails showed that two earlier trips contained a second dinner in Port Washington but this time one was enough. I got the cold lobster roll with fries. It was good, with minimal mayo allowing a lobster focus, though I'd rank Jordan's higher. In prior trips I liked the belly clams and seafood stew. I may try the crab roll next time as that's a rare menu option. There's a nice waterfront setting. Ordering is at the counter. For non-locals, you can get here by bus from the train station - the ride isn't long but it is infrequent.

They're back open for the season. The warm lobster rolls are one of the better ones in the area and it's a must. The outside seating scenery absolutely relaxing and lovely.

It's funny to call something a hidden gem that's been there for a while but when it's new to you it certainly feels hidden. A friend recommended I try their lobster rolls and I'm so glad she did! I love a cold lobster roll and this place nailed it. Beautiful spot on the water with the perfect portion for a sandwich. Average price and you can't beat the views.

We were able to drive over via boat and park at the dock. Parking was free. We went up to the window to order and sat down to eat our meal. The food was tasty. This place is good if you just want to grab a quick bite, as there is not really table service and parties are encouraged to leave once done with their food, as seating is limited.

The lobster roll and view are the stars of the show. The lobster roll is excellent. $30 might seem high but they come with French fries. The view is beautiful. You order at a window and a server brings the food to you. Very relaxing, wonderful summertime vibe. I look forward to returning.

Calm environment and a nice view overlooking Manhasset Bay! We went for lunch during a weekend visit at Port Washington. Neat and clean outdoor seatings for a 'shack' and food was not bad. We ordered the Clam Chowders which was meh, Lobster Roll was okay, Sea Scallops and Whole Belly Clams was good. 3 stars on food and extra star for the vibe & view.

Opens seasonally so check before you go. I was here the week of labor day so they were luckily still open. But they are about to close for the season. Stunning views of the Bay and at sunset, it's so serene. This was the perfect week to come vs the busy summer days. The place gets packed at prime dinner time (6pm-8pm) so head over earlier or come right at 7:30pm...that's the sweet time slot. Tables cannot be reserved and when it's super busy, a staff member will assist in securing a table once you've gotten your food. Sometimes you'll have to share a table, it's a courteous thing to do and when it's that busy, everyone just wants to enjoy their food with the view. Be nice! Onto the food: love the clam chowder - full of ingredients and it's the perfect balance of creamy but not too heavy. The lobster roll served with fries, the baked fish served over farro and the whole belly clams entrees are my go-to choices almost every visit. I like what I like and between the salad and slaw - you get your vegetables in. For the non-seafood options, there's the impossible burger, grilled cheese (so good!!), hot dog and cheeseburgers just to name a few. There are salad options too with or without proteins. Something for everyone. Always a great time at Butler's Flat. It's an institution. Enjoy!

Great spot by the water for seafood, drink, and a great sunset view. Counter service with a pretty decent menu not to mention an ample parking lot. This was a low-key place a few years back but not anymore. Popularity spreads fast.

    Dog friendly patio!

As someone who isn't the biggest fan of tomato based soups, but doesn't always want the heaviness of a cream based soup, this is the best of both worlds. Its flavor was rich yet balanced. The cream brought a smooth, velvety body and subtle sweetness, while the tomato added a bright acidity and savory depth. Potatoes provided gentle heft and earthy comfort, while onions, celery, and herbs built a layered, homey backbone. There was a good amount of tender clams, with natural sweetness that tied everything together. We also got an order or mini crab cakes. The exterior was golden fried, with a nice crunch. The interior was more crab than filler, with enough structure that it held together. It was simply seasoned, supporting the crab instead of overshadowing it. The horseradish Dijon sauce was more Dijon than horseradish. It brought a gentle tang and little bite to add a depth of flavor to the crab cake. Also of note, when you sit down they bring tartar sauce and cocktail sauce to your table. Both sauces were honestly the best of their kind that I can remember having in a very long time. I couldn't even tell you what made them so amazing, but I must have commented at least 7 times about how good they were. There's a reason Bigelow's has been around for almost 90 years. It's a simple spot, with old school charm, that knows a good thing when it's got it, and doesn't mess with perfection. It just continues to serve up consistently good fried seafood (with a few grilled options so you can drag your health conscious friends and they'll find something too).

This visit I ordered the lump crab cakes, clam strips, fries, and a lemonade. Everything was a solid 10/10. The crab cakes were loaded with sweet lump crab meat and barely any filler. You can actually see the chunks of crab when you break them open. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and absolutely delicious. The clam strips were hot, crispy, and tasted incredibly fresh, and the fries were perfectly cooked. The staff is always quick, pleasant, and efficient, making takeout a breeze. Most importantly, the food is consistently fresh and flavorful. That's what keeps me coming back. If you're in the area or even passing through, do yourself a favor and stop at Bigelow's. It's one of those places that lives up to the hype every single time. I'll definitely be back.

I didn't look into the dining room since this was a take out order. PROS: Cleanliness appears to be high on their agenda. My order consisted of Fried Oyster dinner, Fish & Chips dinner, and a Fried Shrimp & Scallops dinner. All came with French Fries and Cole Slaw. They also provided plenty of tartar and cocktail sauce. Additionally they have Malt Vinegar which is a must, at least for me when eating fish and chips. The oysters were cooked to perfection, as were the shrimp and scallops. CONS: The fish fillet was undercooked and the coating saturated with oil. I don't think the fryer was hot enough. French Fries were soggy because the steam from the closed containers. Easily solved by putting in a frying pan to crisp them up. Coleslaw was okay. As for Pricing, they are quite high for portion served. $30.00 for 2 shrimp, 2 scallops and a mound of french fries is outrageous. I can get a full seafood platter at any decent diner or restaurant for this kind of money. I think I'll look elsewhere when I get my next craving for this type of cuisine.

Luckily, I had Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips on my list and it was on my way. I'd also been wanting to check off eating at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant on my foodie bucket list for sometime. This spot is going to count for me, at least until I can eat at one of his real-deal restaurants. While I didn't expect the place to not have a line, I was pleasantly surprised at how I was able to quickly place my order then grab a counter seat along the window. I was solo on this visit, so I didn't need a table, but those who had groups had to wait a few minutes to grab an empty one as the the restaurant was fairly full. The atmosphere is just like any pop-in, to-go place: casual, yet energetic, and feels approachable with a focus on serving quality food, rather than worried about a Michelin star. The only caveat is that the prices are a bit higher than most are probably happy paying, but you've got to remember its proximity to Times Square and the Gordon Ramsay brand. I got Gordon's combo which was a piece of cod, a piece of chicken, and three pieces of shrimp. All three were were crispy, flaky, and golden brown with a light batter that delivered a nice crunch, and the chips were hot and hearty. Exactly what you would you'd hope for from a restaurant built around this delicious British comfort food, especially with Gordon Ramsay's name on it. I'm not much for tartar sauce, so I can't speak to that, but I definitely appreciated the bit of lemon to add a bright burst of freshness. As it is more of a to-go/fast food style place, the presentation was surprisingly appealing for a quick-service restaurant. Paired with a ginger ale, it was a satisfying meal after a day of exploring the city.
