Excellent. I'd give it 4.5 stars but don't have that option. The green chili chicken enchiladas were really good. My one suggestion, the green chili sauce could be a bit thicker and spicier with more green chili, I mean T or C is what 30 or so north of Hatch? I got mine with diced onions, next time without definitely. The beans and rice were excellent as well. Small, busy location so it's a bit noisy to have a conversation. The staffing was excellent. The owner is a gem. She even pulled/sold me an apron off the wall i admired. T or C is fortunate to have such an excellent restaurant. read more

If you're looking for outdoor seating because you're traveling with a dog, don't stop here. I have never heard so many bizarre reasons as to why a dog cannot even be on the premises; first one was because of a "code," second one was because there is a bad dog next door that might hurt or kill my dog and the third one was their liability insurance. Not sure if I believed any of those reasons but I ordered food to go because of the Yelp. After looking into the New Mexico restaurant liability insurance explanation, I now know that this place just flat out doesn't like dogs anywhere. I feel like "dog friendly" should be another option on Yelp since so many people now travel with their pets. I should have left because it was very hot and windy and the owners were extremely rude but, against my husbands wishes, I ordered to go based on the food reviews and also based on nostalgia (because the location was the exact location for great Mexican food in the 1980's. Now to the food: I ordered the large combo. It was good but not the best New Mexico Mexican food. The cheese enchiladas were okay. The taco was not crispy, probably because it was squeezed into a styrofoam container, and was made with hamburger meat. I was hoping for shredded beef. Oh well. The chile relleno was good, not the best. Overall, the food was good but I've had better. The green chile sauce was better than good. I honestly think that if we had been allowed to dine outdoors on the premises, the food would have been served on a bigger plate and I would have been able to distinguish what I was eating better. Would I eat here again...that's a big fat nope. Nor would they want me to, probably. The owner(s) were rude. The food was mediocre at best. I loved raising my girls and living in T or C back in the 80's, but I will never stop there again to eat because the people at Tony's. read more

Well , i guess i have to come in lower than others. We did a 3 beef taco plate , rice and beans and i added a pork tamale. The Tamale was the hit. The Tacos were bland and the rice on both plates was left behind. No bottled hot sauce is served here. The Tony special was good but smothered in cheese. So all one color. I asked for salsa for the tacos but a cell phone took precedence and i was on the third one before it came. It's been here a long time but i can't call it quaint or charming. They did have mexican music in the speakers. i ll try another spot when we come back. Actually johnny b's taco plates looked very good the other night. That would be my next alternate. read more

After reading the reviews about this place I had to try it for myself and tbh everything that was said was absolutely true. I've eaten a lot of green chile cheese burgers around the state and I honestly can say this was one of the best I've ever had. The meat was seasoned so perfectly that every bite was savory. The red chile here was also delicious. Service was top notch. We sat down ordered some drinks and without asking they brought us some complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was delicious too. So many other things I want to try on the menu and hopefully we will soon again. It's a little further south than we usually go when we go to the lake but the extra 20 minute drive is worth every minute. Some really great food and some really nice people. Prepare for a long review. 2nd time here. It has gone to pretty good, perfectly fine to amazing. I'm not sure what has changed, but I highly recommend Tony's now. Great Mexican restaurant with amazing food! Laura was our server and she was very nice, personable and professional. The place itself is rustic and simple, a bit dated but what isn't in small New Mexican towns, or any small town for that matter. No deductions for this. Free chips and SALSA! The salsa was definitely made in house with the perfect amount of all the flavors you would want. A perfect touch of heat that would satisfy most salsa lovers. We both ordered the large combo. This is our go to pretty much every time we are in NM. Great way to try several items. This came with a chunky burrito, a chili relleno, a cheese enchilada, a ground beef taco, rice and beans. I always taste the beans and rice first as I typically do not eat either, except when in NM. Both were delicious, the refried beans were moist, not pasty... very good. The rice was so moist and fluffy, perfectly seasoned. I could just order these and be happy. That good. Chunky burrito. I saw the words chunky meat quite a few times so I had to ask Laura, what that meant. There are two types here. Chunks of pork with red sauce and beef with green. For the combo we ordered, the burrito had 1/2 of each. Now this burrito is not a big handheld burrito you would get ordering a typical burrito. It's was small but so packed with flavor! Both the pork and beef were tender and the sauces mixed together very well. Before I get to the other items, I need to tell you that their red and green sauces... again made in house... I saw them making small batches... are absolutely delicious. You can really taste each ingredient and a very noticeable difference in the two, as it should be. One other thing to note, especially if you are not from, or accustomed to NM food, you can order what is called Christmas style, in which they pour 1/2 red and 1/2 green sauces on your dish. There is a 50¢ up charge for this however, it is common in NM cuisine restaurants. Pay the 50¢! The cheese enchilada was tasty, nicely stuffed and just what you'd want... and that Christmas... really mixed together well with it. The beef taco comes in a corn tortilla but you can choose hard or soft. My partner got the hard and she loved it and I got the soft and also found it delicious. The tacos were stuffed with a nicely flavored ground beef. Not over seasoned but just enough to enhance the flavor. Chopped iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes and sprinkled with shredded Mexican blend cheese. Well done. Ok... the thing that started our passion for NM cuisine... ok... addiction to NM cuisine is chili relleno's. We have to get them every time, without fail. I'd like to say it was the very best chili relleno I've had, but I always share my honest opinions. I have had a couple that were better, however this is one at Tony's, definitely my top 5 if not top 3 in NM. I would eat theirs for the rest of my life and never be disappointed. The flavor combination was so amazing!!! Short story long, if you are anywhere near T or C, add Tony's to your GPS and check them out. I ate about half of the main part of the dish before noticing + the server never stopped talking to another customer the entire time, so rather than interrupt to explain that my food was contaminated, i paid/tipped (20%) and left. So so good. Authentic NM style food. Ordered the Mexican platter with red and green sauce. Yum. Very busy at 5:30 pm. But servers were friendly and efflicient even with the packed dining room. 11yo wasn't crazy about the chile relleno or cheese enchilada but he's a burrito type kid. Tony's had delicious huevos rancheros with especially good corn tortillas. We went here for breakfast both mornings we were in TorC! We drove through T or C on our way to backpacking in the Gila and stumbled upon Tony's, a quaint little New Mexican restaurant. We were immediately greeted and found a table. The food came out pretty quick and was amazing!! Reminded us of home cooked meals. The salsa was really good too! We were not surprised that the restaurant was completely full by the time we left. The portions are generous. This is a gem in TC; the food is good, the service is fast and you'll leave with a full belly ready for a nap. I ordered the fajita plate and it was more food than I needed. The rice, beans and beef fajita were delicious as well as the guacamole. I am not sure what they put in their guac to make so smooth and yummy but I can say this had to be one of the best I've had in a while. The service was also really good and fast. Our waitress checked on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant itself is tiny but we didn't have to wait to be seated. We were camping with friends and saw Tony's on Yelp. This place IS A MUST!! A family-run business with friendly staff and FABULOUS FOOD that tasted like someone's abuela made it in her kitchen! We ate at Tony's for late lunch. EVERYTHING & EVERYONE was incredible! It's not a fancy restaurant, it's a nice clean place with friendly people and great service and food! And a true SW dining experience. I had the chunky red beef burrito with refried beans and Spanish rice. The meat was very tender and well seasoned, the red sauce awesome the rice was especially good and the beans as well. My wife had the "Tonys" plate with chili relleno, chicken taquito, cheese enchiladas and rice and beans. Everything was very very good and the prices are great! LOTS OF FOOD! First time visiting today. The place was full and very busy due to a community event, but the staff were friendly and welcoming. I tried the enchiladas plate with carne asada and red/green sauce. My wife had crispy tacos. Both were very good. I added a chicken tostado which was delicious. The chips and salsa were excellent, as was the guacamole we asked for to go with it.
