We had a wonderful yummy time. We sat inside and even though there was a party of 60 (yes, 60!) we were seated and fed fast. I had the #3 combo. A chile rellano, cheese enchilada and crispy beef taco. Everything was delicious. Ordered Christmas on the side and ate both the red and green! Hubby had 3 crispy beef tacos and loved them. You also get rice, refried beans and small salad. The platters are huge. John was our waiter and he was efficient, friendly and professional. Laughed at our jokes. Haha. The only thing I would recommend is to bring a jacket or sweater if you get cold, like me, in restaurants in the summer. We will be back next time we're in T or C! read more

This place is bigger than we thought with it's own entrance and everything. There's a nice stage in the outside area, but we were too early in the day for a show. Our server was incredibly sweet and made sure to check on us in a timely matter. We were brought chips and salsa to start and the chips were nice and warm. The salsa wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. We ended up getting the Grilled Chicken Quesadillas appetizer and a Sopaipilla. The quesadillas came with way more food than we expected and they were cooked nicely, but a bit bland. The lettuce was also very wilted and old. The sopaipilla was huge! This was actually my third time to this restaurant. I travel down south for work, quite often and this has become one of my go to's. It's very clean, the food is excellent, and the waitstaff and hostess are kind, helpful, and very professional. I decided to stray away from my normal New Mexican food choices and try their beer battered cod. It started with a lovely side salad, that was simple, but well-made and very fresh. Excellent dressing. When they brought the meal, I was pleasantly surprised, because typically, I hate cod loin. When not cooked correctly, it becomes tough. This was not the case with this entrée. It was cooked to perfection. The batter was crispy, and the fish was well cooked. Jeanette, my waitress was attentive, friendly, and great to deal with. The hostess was very sweet and accommodating. It's a really cute restaurant, with very kitschy decor and a real home setting. It's a nice respite from a long drive. I didn't sit on the patio this time, but it was open and well served. I highly recommend you give this a try, whether you are going down to Elephant Butte Lake or just on your way farther south on I 25, like I was. read more

If I could give La Cocina in New Mexico negative five stars, I would. Honestly, I don't even know what I ate or attempted to eat. I took one bite and immediately pushed the plate away. Whatever this was, it wasn't Mexican food. In fact, I'm not sure it qualifies as food at all. I've never been to a restaurant where every aspect from the "premium ground beef steak" (yes, that's an actual menu item) to the complete absence of staples like carne asada felt like a parody of a bad dining experience. Our group of firefighters stopped in hoping for a decent meal. Instead, we were met with garbage-tier food and service that matched. The waitress never checked in once to ask if we were satisfied which we absolutely weren't. I don't eat Taco Bell or Del Taco, but after this experience? They might as well be five star dining compared to La Cocina. What's worse? I still paid. Still left a 20% tip because hey, maybe they need it. But respectfully, this restaurant needs a hard reset or new ownership altogether. The Yelp reviews warning of poor quality? Spot on. Take this as your sign skip this place and go literally anywhere else I'm sure the gas station across the street has better options to eat. New Mexico, you can and must do better. read more

Chips were warm and salsa delish!! Both of us had excellent meals --- hubby had the enchilada meal with egg on top --- sort of like a Mexican pizza ...and I had tamales --- sooo good!! I ordered tamales to go!!! Our server was so sweet!! She muddled jalapeños to make spicy margaritas and it was delicious!!! This was our first visit but we will be back. The inside is nicely decorated and feels very homey. Hubby and I were impressed! I love reading reviews before going to restaurants so hope this helps others decide. Hidden gem! We were on the way from las cruces to Albuquerque and there are very few actual restaurants (not fast food) in between. It was serendipitous we found La Cocina - we were actually headed for another place and then saw the cool neon sign so decided to give it a try. I'm kind of a gringa - I prefer steak to Mexican food so I was thrilled they had several steaks on the menu. I had the rib eye and I swear it was melt in your mouth delicious. My husband got a supreme burrito that was so absolutely huge that I couldn't believe he ate the whole thing. The restaurant's decor is Old World charm - tall vaulted ceilings, beautifully carved woodwork, lots of large tables to accommodate large groups. It's situated on a hill - kind of in its own world. lots of outdoor seating. The waiter was excellent. Highly recommended and if we ever pass this way again we will definitely go back. read more

With dining being limited, we were suggested la Cocina. When we got there, the host didn't greet us There was another couple waiting as well. I had to ask if we signed in or what. 3 more couples came in.. same treatment. I had to tell them to sign in. The host kept doodling on her eraseboard. After about 15 minutes, 2 out of the 3 couples left. Then I asked after about 25 mins what the hold up was. I was told ( only after I asked ) that there was only one server for 3 areas. After hearing that, my bf knew we wouldn't be getting good service, and we too left, followed by another couple. The 2 hostesses seemed unbothered at the site of the mass exodus. No, so much a look up. 6 hrs later, we returned for a dessert phone in order. I got an order of sopapillas, which were huge. Literally 2 pillows the size of my hands. Just blah. I wish I could have given this place a better rating, but we had a number of issues that would keep us from recommending it. The enchiladas didn't have much taste, even with two salsas. The beef flautas were crisp, but again the beef was not seasoned and they also came out as dry. Coupled with our wait time and the poor state of the bathrooms (the women's room smelled terrible, the first door didn't latch, and one stall was out of TP), I'd recommend eating elsewhere. read more

We were seated right away and our waitress was attentive. We were served chips and salsa right off the bat and the salsa was frozen... my husband thought I was exaggerating until he tried it and confirmed it was frozen... we're not off to a great start. We also ordered margaritas and they had a heavy pour of triple sec, ugh. The food came out timely and was mediocre. I ordered flautas and they were overcooked. The rice and beans were delicious. We were desperately looking for a decent outdoor dinner, Los Arcos was first on our list but 1) they only serve food indoor (outdoor is only for drinks) 2) there was a 1h30 wait time for dinner. This was a no-go for us. We arrived a Los Arcos at 7:00PM and were promptly seated. They have an inside court that shielded us from the wind. They have heaters but won't turn them on unless you ask, so be sure to ask if needed :-) The hostess was very friendly. Our waiter was also extremely friendly. Service was not quick but we were not in a rush so we did not mind. The food was good, not extraordinary but I was not expecting anything crazy considering the price and type of restaurant. I had the "numero 3" which is their special and my friend had the "numero 12" which is their largest plate on their menu. We had hiked during the day and we finished everything. It was satisfying. We also ordered a pitcher of Blue Moon, the pitcher is small in size. We spent a good evening and would come back if I do another road trip around here. read more

I went to La Cocina because Tony's and El Farol were both closed tonight, and I wanted honest-to-goodness New Mexican food while staying in T or C. I should have read the reviews online first, however, because although my waitress was nice enough, everything else about this experience was disappointing. What follows is an account of my sad culinary misadventure: As a proud native of El Paso, I can't remember a time when I've eaten chips and salsa and didn't like them, but somehow this starter earned that unfortunate distinction... I was shocked when both items remained flavorless even after I added a copious amount of salt. There was no real heat to the salsa, and I couldn't shake the suspicion that it came out of a jar--maybe even a Midwestern brand, at that. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning. The server informed me that the flautas were made in advance so they couldn't take the cheese out of the filling. In my opinion, it's a major red flag when flautas aren't made fresh and crispy to order... Disappointed, I ordered beef enchiladas without the cheese. These lukewarm red enchiladas and the sad, flavorless beans and rice that accompanied them would have made any self-respecting abuelita cry... I've eaten enchiladas from Espanola to Las Cruces, and New Mexico's red enchiladas were the one local dish I longed for the most as a homesick student in rural Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, these were a disgrace to the dish. The sauce tasted like it came from a can. The ground beef tasted fine, but everything else on my plate was forgettable. To add insult to injury, even the Coke was flat... I guess the saving grace was that the entree was so lousy that I wasn't inclined to order sopapillas for dessert, saving myself the extra cost and calories. The waitress was nice, but the first draft of my check included two entrees, so I would have paid double for my mediocre meal if I wasn't paying attention. The dining room felt very dark, and the decor needed updating. Needless to say, tasty food can cover a multitude of interior design sins. Unfortunately there was no absolution here. In all, this dinner was a trip to the Land of Disenchantment, and I consider it my duty to warn my El Paso friends about this place so they don't make the same mistake. Take your money elsewhere. ETA: This meal made its way up and out of my system with great violence several hours later. Don't eat here. read more

We went in on Sunday evening at 645pm and asked how long it would take for a to go. We were told about 15 minutes for a "to go" order. We waited at least 45 -55 minutes after placing our orders. The younger waitress asked for ETA 2 or 3 times. Once she was told it was being cooked, almost done .... that was 15-20 minutes before we got the food. We could see folks who came after us were seated and also waiting for their dinners. The food was ok. They should hire more kitchen staff for Sunday nights, when so many better restaurants are closed and options are limited. Really - be honest about how long it takes for orders. Even better, they should have a real menu online you could cll in order from ( not just Door Dash)... AND tell you how long it takes. read more

Delicious! I saw reviews on this restaurant but was not prepared for how beautiful it would be inside. There is a breathtaking patio with a stage in the center of the restaurant with gorgeous twinkly lights. If the wind hadn't been kicking up, I would have begged to sit there! Our table had a painting on it that was stunning. I could have looked around that restaurant forever and never taken it all in! And that menu! It was huge and full of so many options! We had planned to hit a variety of restaurants this trip but we may just keep coming back to this one! It was that good! My husband did the fajitas combo and loved it! They let him do beef and chicken with red and green chile. It was a steal for just $14.99! There was so much food! I'm on the Keto plan so I did a burger patty with an egg and avocado fan. It was perfect for me and delicious! Our hotel, the Desert View Inn (which is amazing, by the way), gave us a coupon for a free sopaipilla. Little did I know that their sopas are bigger than my head! Cold, cold, cold food. Not sizzling fajitas. So cold I put my hand in them to show the waiter. Tortillas cold. Not even heated up in a microwave! I sent them back to be warmed and they came back still cold. Heard about their sopapillas so we ordered a large plate of them. I found this restaurant by chance. We were two people and ordered Fajitas. The waitress told us, do you want to share because the portions are very big. We agreed and we even took stuff back home. In all the years I've been coming to truth or consequences and Hot Springs, I have never stopped in to eat here. I honestly don't know why but I tell you I'm glad this time I did! We had a group of 12 and stopped in for a wholesome dinner. Looking at the menu there was a lot to choose from! Everything look good And it smelled wonderful! The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful with dinner suggestions and accommodating our large group. We never had to ask for a refill as the drinks kept coming. When the food arrived, I was very much surprised! As they say you get what you pay for however in this case, you got a lot more than what you paid for! I could only eat half of what they provided her despite it being very very good! We had a great time and a great meal and an overall great experience!
