Toon is actually Hotel Toon. You would not expect it if you just walk in for a coffee, lunch or dinner, but this place also has 5 hotel rooms. They are nice, says the Parool newspaper, I personally have no idea, only went to the restaurant for lunch :)
Toon opened a few weeks ago already. I strangely did not notice this, even though I cycle past this place at least 5 times a week. After reading about it I decided this place needed to be tested.
So we did that today. It is pretty small and the tables are quite close to each other. The place looks nice and there are fun details, like the record player for the music. You also have to look up to the ceiling, it's beautiful.
We went here for a late lunch, but you can also come for breakfast and dinner (the pizzas are cheap!). We lunch I ordered a salad with lentils, sundried tomatoes, beetroot and gorgonzola. It was good and only 5,50 euros though it was a lot. Nice! Salads are usually much more expensive than sandwiches. Good for me it was the other way around here, since I prefer a salad. The sandwiches weren't cheap, they varied in prices but a few of them were 8,50 while not being particularly generous in size so that's quite expensive.
The thing that got quite annoying when the place started to fill up with more people, was that everyone bumped into you and your table. There was almost no space to move, very, very annoying. If not for this I would have rated this place 4 stars. The food was good, cute place but very small and to much tables for the size of the room. It's a good spot when it is not to busy though, or if you a sitting with your back against a wall. read more
