Similar to another reviewer's experience, I suffered through a highly unprofessional and unpleasant atmosphere. The girl that did my pedicure dropped the F-bomp a minimum of 3 times. She may have been the owner's daughter. She kept belittling most of her co-workers. She said one was stupid for placing a customer in a particular pedicure chair. She treated the male co-worker like an idiot and snapped at him to do things for her. She then complained about customers walking in without an appointment (but she knew I had been one of those). Like many other customers, I look forward to these services as a way for me to have a tiny 'getaway', to feel pampered, and just relax a little. Not here! I felt like I had been dropped into a nightmare middle school scenario, or some weird foreign soap opera. Silly me though, I came here YEARS ago and had a similar experience where a different worker was mad at another, and she kept telling me about all the reasons the other worker sucked as a person, and told me all the gossip about several other co-workers. Besides this, the pedicure & fill were done well. A customer had come in complaining about getting a chip in one of her freshly filled nails, and the workers happily and quicky fixed it up for her and didn't charge for it. Top Nails management, WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR STAFF'S DRAMA. For your own sake, clean up your atmosphere. You are losing customers. read more

Went for first and last time today. The person who did my pedi was very rough with my feet and just cheese grated them - it was painful rather than pleasant. No leg massage - and my nail polish came off shortly after I got home. Will have to visit another salon to get nails re- done. read more

Let me start by saying I would NOT recommend this place to anyone anymore. I have gone here in the past for pedicures, and that was OK (however they always seemed rushed and I have had them ask me to remove my own polish, which I found very tacky and unprofessional). I decided to go in prior to an event, and have a full set of the powder gel done (which seems to me a lot like acrylic and not a gel). I went in around 3:15 and was asked to come back at 4 pm, no problem. When I went in at 4 I waited for the lady that was going to do my nails. When it was my turn, I sat at the station and was asked if I was doing a full set, which was about all that was said to me. While I don't mind for stylists, manicurist, etc. to not have a lot to say, this gal had the personality of a rock and couldn't be bothered to say two words to me. She complained to the person working next to her that I was making her late for her next appointment. After she did the tips and "gel" nails and "shaped" them I had another person come and apply polish, which was a sparkly magenta color on the card but when applied there, was no color and little glitter. After 4 coats of polish there was still no color and a very uneven layer of glitter, the polish also "pooled" at the sided of my nails. To fix this they scrapped at the sides, when this didn't work they got out a file, needless to say by the time I was done with the color that did not work my fingers were sore. I picked a color that I know looks good (I have it at home and normally do my own nails). It was the same thing it pooled on the sides and again with the scrapping and filing. I have never had a manicurist that was so hard on my nails before. I had no time at the shop to look them over as I was with someone else who had to leave immediately. When I finally had a chance to look at them I was extremely disappointed. The shape, if you can call them shaped, was narrow at my cuticle and very wide at the tips, some of them were rounded on one side and square on the other, the ends of my nails were uneven, there are spots on nails that don't have polish (near the cuticle) there was gel polish and clear topcoat that was running down the side of my nail. I had to reshape my nails when I got where I was going. I looked up on-line and saw that they would only re-do them within 3 days of when I was in, which I would be out of town for 4 days (and there was no way my sore and cut fingers would have withstood another bout of their manicurists anyway). They also say "absolutely no refunds". It cost me $45 to have my nails done and a polish applied, just for me fix them myself. Again, I would NOT return here nor would I recommend this place to anyone. read more

After one year with his salon, I'm calling it quits. Every time I go in for a scheduled appointment, I have to wait until they finish someone else. Recently it was up to 45 minutes when I decided I had waited long enough and left. I agree with the other person who said that they make you feel like you're inconveniencing them. They never smile, and truly look annoyed that they have to work on you. It wasn't that way when I first began with them. Now it's like a factory line, moving you along as fast as they can. Service is quick and quality good. They keep the place pretty clean and have convenient hours. They're a little rough with waxing so I would only recommend nails and toes. Prices are a little higher than I am used to; however, being that there is very little competition here, the prices are understandable. read more

I started going to this shop in December as a walk in and felt comfortable coming back for a gel manicure twice a month. I usually get the same design gel polish each time I return, and just in case I get a new worker I come prepared with a picture. Usually it's no problem when I show a picture and i leave happy. This time I went I got a new lady, showed her the picture and she rudely tells me it will be extra even though I've never been charged extra. I told her it was fine because that's what I wanted. I even had the design on my nails before she started. She then proceeded to give me a regular gel polish then got up and walked away while they were drying. I understand everyone has different techniques on how they do things so I just sat there for five minutes and waited for her to come back. The receptionist came up to me and asked if I was ready to pay and I told him about the design and showed him the picture. He has seen me get this done countless of times. He went to go check on the nail tech and came back and told me she was eating. Wow, okay. When she came back she was still eating her food then sloppily tried to do the design. I got frustrated because instead of being up front and telling me she didn't know how to do the design and having me wait for someone else, I wasted my time and I didn't get what I wanted. After being very patient the whole time I told her to take everything off and I left with just the gel polish. That same week I came back to just get the gel polish removed because it had already started chipping! I told one of the gentleman working that I wanted a gel polish take off and wrote it in the book. They had the receptionist take off my polish but he was under the impression that I had acrylics on, so he used the wrong drill to take the polish off which in turn dented ALL of my nails. He caught his mistake when he was done but asked me why I didn't say anything. I have never had acrylics before, so the method is foreign to me. And they usually use drills anyways to take off gel polish. I got home later that night from work with my hands throbbing in pain. My nails were sensitive for a week and grew incredibly weak. It's been over a month and my nails are still weak and break constantly. I refuse to go back. read more

First, half of my massage chair didn't work, which was upsetting because thats half the reason I get pedis. Then, the gentleman doing my manicure had me wash my hands before giving me a massage, so he quickly put a small amount of lotion on my forearms (completely skipping my hands/fingers)... disappointing. About halfway through painting my nails his phone rang and he just left to answer it. Unprofessional. After leaving I was satisfied with how my nails looked, but within hours it started chipping and by the following day it was almost gone. This place is way too expensive for a low quality experience. If I could give no stars, I would do so. But this horrible place must be heard. I've never been to a nail salon as bad as this one. Everybody else in the salon was "okay." But just this one young crazy women did my nails just the other day. I think her name was Jade. She was absolutely rude and inconsiderate of her customers. I'm surprised that she's gotten some sort of a certification or license for this. She doesn't listen to what you want. She did such a poor job. After reading some of the reviews I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The prices were pretty reasonable, $28 for a pedicure and $10 for eyebrows. It didn't feel rushed at all even though we were all walk ins. Also I normally pay about $40 to get my eyebrows done back home and honestly Twee did a better job here than what I usually get. read more

I am from out of town and am in Blacksburg for school, so I was looking for suggestions of where to get my nails done and my friend recommended Top Nails. I went once for a pedi and it came out great. Recently I went (on a Thursday) for acrylics and a pedi. The pedi started chipping off almost entirely within 2 days. By Sunday, one of my acrylics cracked off but I didn't have time to get it fixed. On Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 more broke off, so on Friday I went in to have them fixed. Instead of just fixing the broken nails, they gave me (and charged me for) a fill in which I didn't mind too much cause I figured it would make the acrylics from the first set stronger and less likely to break. That Sunday (only 2 days later) another one has broken off. I am not doing anything rough or crazy, just normal daily activities. Another one fell off that Wednesday. When I get my acrylics done at home and I'm too busy to get a fill regularly, one set could last me a month (and it's cheaper) but these can't even last 2 days? I gave 2 stars for the friendly staff and the nice atmosphere and that my nails look good (for a day) but I will be looking for another salon read more

The first time I got a pedicure there, I was very pleased indeed. The person was gentle, and very thorough. The second time, I got a very young person who was rough with my feet, not very familiar with the equipment, and who took a very long time, with only a medium result. Also, there was a group of employees giggling all around, chattering in their native language, including one male employee who kept hovering over the young woman who was working with me in a most unpleasant way. Nobody actually spoke to me, the customer, my foot was just grabbed and moved around at will. These behaviors create an uneasy sense of not being quite human, at least in me. read more

Service is very inconsistent. One week it's one price the next week it's another. The only one that seems to care about the customer is Kim and if she is not available you need to be Aware!!! What does it say about a business when their own family leaves the establishment and goes to work for their competitor? I think that speaks very loud and clear!!! read more

The prices are high for Blacksburg; they rushed through my service and didn't do a great job

I really didn't get what I payed for at this place. I went in to get a French manicure and a pedicure with gel polish and it cost more than $70. Maybe I'm just new to this but it seemed really pricey to me. Mostly, though, I have been thoroughly disappointed with how both have lasted. I work in a restaurant so I usually get gel polish because it can last weeks even with the constant hand washing and other abuses. About a day after I got it all done, my purple pedicure looked more gold than purple and only 2 days after that the polish on one nail completely peeled off. As for the French tips on my hand, it only took them a couple of days before they started to chip and peel. Only a week later one nail had broken off. I paid extra for gel polish because its supposed to last and I already need a fresh manicure. Also the service was somewhat lacking. No one was rude but I felt like I was being ignored in favor of the regulars that were there. I will definitely not be returning there to waste my money. read more

I got a bikini wax here from Twee and it was the most painless one I've ever had! She was very sweet and courteous and made me feel comfortable, and she did an amazing and thorough job. I would highly recommend her!! read more

My friend and I went for the Deluxe Pedicure package. While the treatment itself was very nice the pedicure itself was terrible. We enjoyed the rubs and massages but when it came to the final paint was not to the edge and smudged on some toes. The woman was also a bit rough. Not worth what it cost. However the most of the staff are very nice and accommodating. read more

I have been to Top Nails about a dozen times or so over the years, typically decent service but not stellar. After today I will not go back. I went in for a manicure and a new employee was taking care of me. She then told me I should let her wax my eyebrows because they looked bad. She inquired about my child's school because she is new to the area and told me she thought my daughters school was not as good as the one she plans to send her daughter to. I asked how she came to this opinion after living in Blacksburg only 1 week and she told me she overheard another client say so. Then at the end of the manicure she dumped alcohol on my hand by accident instead of lotion, and did not wipe it off but then put lotion on top rubbing it all in together irritating my skin. I learned while I was there that 2 employees recently walked out. I can see why. I will not be returning and absolutely would not recommend Top Nails to anyone. read more
